Charles should have thought ahead and had more children when he was still in his 30’s. In a sense he was focused on becoming king not knowing his mother would have such a long reign and tremendous legacy. The Queen could always hold court or host large family gatherings (Christmas, Easter, etc.) as she had a large extended family … Charles doesn’t have that luxury and his health is unknown. Charles’s concept of a slimmed monarchy only works when the family still has younger and healthy members. Charles wants to project an image of a loving, cohesive family as part of his legacy but he doesn’t have the ability to rule like the late Queen. But there is no way he should cower to the untrustworthy Harkles’ demands. He has Parliament to do the paperwork removing their titles and even exiling them. In the same breath he should not put the onus of dealing with his ‘darling son Harry’ on to William … especially after the Harkles reprehensible behaviour against the RF. There are big challenges ahead especially if Charles’ health seriously deteriorates and not dealing with them (Andrew & the Harkles) will reflect poorly on his lack of strength in decision making. He is surrounded by courtiers with excellent minds who he must trust to do what he is unable to do for the monarchy, the UK and the Commonwealth. Camilla is no spring chicken and has recently had to deal with a chest infection which is always difficult to recover from due to her age and the colder, wetter weather. Princess Catherine is better but will need frequent cancer testing for the rest of her life. By prolonging things Charles doesn’t like to do … it makes it very difficult for the family at large to carry out all the assignments and patronages. It also makes it very difficult for Charles to hold a busy Christmas at Sandringham with fewer family members some of which have young children or have their spouses families which they want to include (like the extended Middleton family who don’t know when will be Princess Catherine’s last Christmas). Charles and Catherine are not yet able to carry out long day events due to their health with their own younger families than Charles. Charles needs to stop micromanaging holiday events and simplify the arrangements … which might be a lot lonelier for the septuagenarian king but better for everyone else who is around and have other family commitments and responsibilities. Including Camilla’s family who are not Royal is not popular with the other relatives. Charles should perhaps have smaller gatherings for his retired friends and Camilla’s older adult children. It must feel very awkward getting the key job in his seventies when most of his friends have retired. One can’t control timing but getting together on a smaller scale with different groups of friends makes it perhaps more manageable (though nothing can compared to his late mother’s Holiday Heydays!). May they all stay well for the holiday season!
