You know Napoléon REALLY left a big impression to French peoples because, not only did he regained power one time (even if it last only 100 days), but despite being defeated two times, his nephew was able to get elected as the French President AND do like his Uncle and overthrow the Republic to become Emperor (Napoleon III, Second French Empire). If I am correct,the old guard was never committed at the battle of waterloo...it was the young guard.If it would have been the old guard there would have been chaos all over battlefield Napoleon later regretted this decision

Middle guard was committed. Old Guard served as rear guard. "The Old Guard left the battlefield in excellent order with their characteristic bull-dog obstinacy and drums beating."

The old guard and the middle guard were sent in at the very end to finish the Brits but it failed. Then the entire army routed except for Middle guard and Old guard.

Must have been terrifying, it speaks to the dicipline of these men that they did not immediately break. Just looking at a stationary old cannon on a historical battlefield gives a bit of unease, I cant imagine advancing on it while it was being actively operated.

C'est, je crois, la Moyenne Garde qui est "morte mais ne s'est pas rendue", et non la Vieille Garde. Plus précisément, un carré de la Moyenne Garde, avec à sa tête Cambronne.

La moyenne garde a mené le front de l'attaque et la vieille est resté en soutient légèrement en arrière. C'est suite à la débacle de la moyenne garde puis de l'armée que la vieille garde a protégé la retraite. En formant des carrés notamment comme tu le dis et en l'occurrence Cambronne était dans le 1er régiment de chasseurs de la vieille garde si je ne m'abuse :) La vieille garde est la seule a avoir conservé sa discipline dans la débacle. Le "mot de Cambronne" serait arrivé à ce moment même si ce dernier l'a toujours nié.

Wrong the old guarde was not commited against the allied army in waterloo. It was the middle guardas. The two battlationds of the ols guarda joined the retreat after the defeat in the bella alliance.
