A common tactic was that the ordinary troops fight, and after a day of fighting both side is exhausted. Then Napoleon send in the Old Gard (the imperial elit of the elit) that have been in reserve all the time, so they are totaly fresh, march forward under "Victory is ours" That is a very hard psychological hit, and normaly the exhausted enemy will start to fall back then face the Old Gard.

Originally a music from a french "opéra-comique" by Gretry (born in Liege, Belgium) La Caravane du Caire (around 1785). Gretry gained much success in the ending french "Ancien Régime," then managed to get across the troubled and sometimes bloody period of the French Revolution and was able to reach a more quiet time under Napoleon's rule. There is a story of Gretry talking with Napoleon at a reception and Napoleon asking his name: - Gretry, Sire. And a few minutes later, Napoleon asking again Gretry his name. And Gretry: - Still Gretry, Sire.

The first time I heard this song when I watched Waterloo (1970) on TV. It felt very majestic and imperialist. I was planning on to be a writer, but being a nerd I went towards Computer Science. I was already in the Army Reserves as a medic (91B), and I decided to go R.O.T.C. for a commission as a General Medical Officer. That is an administrator with the rank of a 2nd Lieutenant, not a ranking General - lol. Then I changed my mind when I was in Fort Bragg, for my 6-week cadet evaluation. Every branch of the Army has a specific day to try something new. When it was Field Artillery day, I worked on the guns and I fell in love with it. So... I went Field Artillery. The following year I went to Ft. Sill for Field Artillery OBC (Officer Basic Course). I went on a vacation down to the Island of Margarita, which is a part of Venezuela. This was a long time ago, before Venezuela became hostile. I picked up a book at the airport, about Napoleon Bonaparte. I learned that Napoleon wanted to be a man of letters (a writer), then he went Field Artillery. Hmm... I wonder if there's anything true about re-incarnation? With that thought I shall bid adieu to one and all.

I am sorry to say that unfortunately our rematch got postponed, but gradually I've been winning a lot in single round matches between classes with her (and also winning in that Rizz 🤫🤫🧏🏻‍♂️🧏🏻‍♂️) One day, we will have an ultimate rematch. And perhaps, with her friend too (who I've been talking a lot and hanging out with lately.).
