@@divinearia1601 That's how she started, she changed -- that's how well written characters work. The choices she makes later on are more purposeful and less selfish.

@@tatsumakijim....when was she less selfish? By the time the drama ended, the only individual I could say she loved as much as herself and ever tried to understand was the empress. And, no, she did not feel the danger. Kind of funny that she trusted so many bad people(yes, towards the end, she was still trusting of bad people and carelessly going places with them)....and the one person she couldn't really trust the entire drama was her supposed love interest who saved her over and over and never blamed her for anything even when she'd done things to hurt him.

This is one of the major mistakes the screenwriters made in this show. Zhao Lusi is captivating when she's happy, like when she was first engaged. Most of the time with the general she has to act confused or mad or sad. This is one of the first occasions for this show to turn into something amazing, their marriage and them taking on the world together as husband and wife. This show would have been so much better seeing their love flower and taking down the main traitor together, both strength and ingenuity working hand in hand. Thanks to plot armor, the general never trusts his fiance and completely destroyed their chemistry even to the end.

It's not the screenwriters but the author of the book that you have an issue with then. Because this is exactly how it is in the novel too, where Zisheng hides a lot from Shao Shang and chooses revenge over her. Except in the show he's not as pushy as he was in the book when he comes back after their 5 year separation.

Is the guy supposed to trust his life-long goals to someone who outright says she doesn't listen to people, doesn't want to change, and is incredibly impulsive? What was the first thing the girl did when she found out why Ling Buyi was interrogating Peng Kun? Exposed it in front of everyone, including Ling Yi. Even when she was warned not to trust the Crown Princess, she argued and ignored his warning. When she was told the Crown Prince wasn't worthy of ruling because he was putting bad officials in place, Shao Shang didn't care and did her own thing to protect the Crown Prince simply because the Empress was kind to her. This girl takes every opportunity to do her own thing even if it thwarts Ling Buyi's agendas because she thinks she's so smart. And she has yet to apologize for any harm her actions have caused him. If he tells her not to do something, he's being "controlling". Therefore, he lets her do whatever she pleases and simply tries his best to protect her and all of his agendas. She doesn't leave him with many options other than to hide important things from her. It seems nobody wants to address her issues. If she was willing to listen and he still didn't trust her then it'd be a different story. We're in Ling Buyi's territory. He knows what he's doing. He's capable of running the country if he chooses. She doesn't understand politics, consequences, or how her actions can cause ripples and effects. And if you truly want to talk about trust...you'll have to admit that Shao Shang has her own trust issues. She has given Ling Buyi reason not to trust her. On the other hand, she doesn't trust Ling Buyi's intentions and feelings for her at all...never has, even though he has given her no reason not to. He has saved her and her family each and every time they've needed him.

@@divinearia1601 She made many mistakes but have you finished the drama? Because she definitely learned her lessons and became very trusting and vulnerable with him. His problem was that he was always too vague. Instead of saying don't trust so and so he should have said why. He would tell her to stay out of things for her safety, which was valid, but also wouldn't explain things to her properly. Sometimes knowing the details can help keep you safe too. They both needed to communicate more. And he's made questionable decisions too because let's not forget that he also made her feel ashamed and guilt tripped her for not telling him about the princess bullying her, he even manipulated her and staged punishment with the emperor to get her to feel bad, all while he himself was still hiding very important things from her. That was pretty hypocritical of him. Shao Shang was definitely flawed and had a lot of learning to do, but so did he and they both had changes to make in order to understand eachother better.

@@divinearia1601 You seem upset because the choices both Shao Shang and Ling Bu Yi made are flawed. It's frustrating because as the audience we can see the better choices to make, but the choices they made are supposed to be frustrating, because that's how their characters internal struggles work. LBY knows that Shao Shang will do whatever it takes to help someone she cares about, that's why he doesn't want to get her involved. If they were honest with each other from the start, this show would have been a 30 episode rom-com with a bunch of sweet lovey dovey scenes instead.

You really need to either pick the music and drop the dialogue, or vice versa. The score in this series is incredible on its own....the added music is more distraction than help.
