If you go to a store and buy, say, a laptop and then bring it home and find out that it's unable to connect to the internet and missing a bunch of keys in the keyboard, you wouldn't say "oh well, I'm sure the manufacturers worked very hard to put this out there, I should just be glad I have it". No! You'd make complaints and want your money back because you were given a defective product! I’m pretty active on the Sims Reddit, and it’s so frustrating to read some people’s opinions about the Sims 4. I really feel like they only play the Sims 4, and have never played any other video games.They act like consumers can’t complain about the product, or that Sims 4 is the best simulation game ever. Even when you point out the lack of content in comparison to older Sim titles, show them money comparisons about the content, they either blame you for buying or feel bad for the developers. Like I understand there are some things out of the control of developers because of producers, like deadlines or cutting out content. I studied game design at my university. I talked to people in the industry, I understand these issues. I also understand that developers will get the brunt of backlash. I understand that Sims Dev team sometimes get harassed for petty reasons, and get even gets threatened. But like as I point out all the time, literally no other player base in any video game franchise puts up with this behavior, even fans of other similar franchises like Animal Crossing.The Sims team is not a indie developer with limited funds. They are not just a team of three people. They have access to play testers and bigger budgets. If people are so concerned about developers, why don’t they just support solo devs, so they can actually live off their games’ profits and so don’t have to put up with abuses like the industry like crunch or working overtime for free. Yes there are so many indie games under $30 with way more content than the Sims 4, like Rimworld, Starbound, Stardew Valley, or Wildermyth. Like go support artists, and like you’ll find much better representation and a more enjoyable gaming experience. And like people complaining about the game taking resources, like most indie games are under a 1gb and they run way more smoothly.

Isabel, can I give this a super like? I keep telling people exactly the same thing. You can get a full game with more content than The Sims 4 on Steam for $20. It's ridiculous! Some of the games on Steam for $20 -$30 are so complex they have quite a steep learning curve, and it takes hundreds of hours to find all the features. The Sims 4 has no learning curve - it's boring after an hour because there's no gameplay, no depth - for a game that costs $850?? And it's a game that has so many bugs it really isn't even at PRE-ALPHA standard - seriously!! Games on Steam in Alpha are a LOT more stable, and you can play them for hours without encountering bugs. The Sims 4 isn't play-tested at all - it's very, very OBVIOUS that it's not - people are PAYING for the privilege of doing the play-testing - they really are! Compared to most ALPHA games (unreleased games that are still being worked on and bug fixed), The Sims 4 isn't even at a standard where it should be released as a game to the public - it's not even ALPHA standard - by a LONG shot - not even CLOSE to ALPHA standard. It really isn't!! I wish the people who play The Sims 4 would get out and play OTHER games, so that they understand exactly how ridiculously they're being ripped off!! Good grief!! The Sims 4 entire content is barely worth $50 - the whole game! Honestly! That's how much The Sims 4 players are being ripped off!!

Yep. Desperation because the money well is drying up. All those free players through EA Play don't add any money to the coffers. Tons of people are going to preorder because of FOMO. This isn't going to save EA. This is only going to exasperate the problems. But I called that quite a while ago. This is way less of a simmers “complaining” problem and more of a “game developers as an industry need better work conditions, unions, and rights” problem. Like the problem isn’t that Simmers, who are the actual customers, demand too much. It’s EA that makes business decisions without consistent time frames or direction. And they don’t actually pay developers that much compared to the working conditions and crunch. EA is also working with cheap servers and cheap production models. The devs do the bare minimum because EA does not pay them to do anything more than that. In fact EA can and does force game developers to stop developing their own game just to avoid being legally obligated to pay them. So even if devs wanted to do more and had the passion to do it for free, it’s not their call In all honesty, I would prefer for the entire sims team stop worrying about what simmers want and start advocating for what they want as workers. Like go on strike & make formal demands, etc. don’t worry about what simmers want devs. Not until you have the kind of working conditions that would make it possible

I play the sims 1, i make bread and my stove bursts into flames. I buy the cheapest stove in the sims 4 and I can make Aromatic Duck with Sezhuan sauce at level 1 and it's good quality. I don't even buy a fire alarm in the sims 4 because I know my chances of setting the place on fire is too low to warrant it. My sim uses the toilet once in the sims 1 and it just breaks because it's cheap as shit. I boot up the sims 2 delux and im greeted by a damn genie who wants gold for a wish within 10 minutes. I boot up the sims 4 and I get the annoying ass welcome party that benefits me in no way. Think about that for a moment, in the sims 1 and 2 you needed to "network" to advance in careers. Going up in jobs was literally a chore in itself that it's why Motherlode and Rosebud where so commonly used. In the sims 4 I can make thousands of simbucks within a week I have no need for motherlode or rosebud in my gameplay for emergency spending. Because there is no emergency spending. They took the gameplay out of the sims 4 and that's why the GC's who are literally ALL builders love these packs because they can now build. Gameplay is gone, and thats why people go back to SIMS2 and 3 because they actually offer gameplay.

i think the main cause of the divide in the sims community has everything to do with influencers and the game changer program in general. the moment they released that program i knew the game was on a downward spiral. on one side you have the players who play the game because it’s nostalgic and exciting and on the other side you have the influx of kids who are heavily influenced by media and have no sense of thinking for themselves or never even played the older generations of the game. as long as their fav big sim youtuber advertises the new content (that they received for free and were compensated by sponsorship to persuade you to buy) they will buy anything, and then call the rest of us “greedy” or “ungrateful” 🤨

I'm convinced that the people who say the same comments of "ungrateful", "whining", or "complain" haven't been playing the Sims as long as some of us. If they did their research of at least seeing the content that we got in Sims 2 and 3 alone, they'd be losing their minds. I'm grateful to quit the Sims 4 and I play Persona 5 at the moment, each evening or even exploring the missed stuff in ESO. This opinion matters to me. Including returning to the games that do deserve the hard earned money.

Sometimes I think these people complaining about those of us with standards never played Sims 2 or 3, but then they say they did … and then I’m speechless. How could they have played those two iterations and thought Sims 4 was just A OK?! 😳

Half of these comments (in the video itself) are so gaslighty. Saying if we don't like the game its basically our fault
@adrianalvarez14683 жыл бұрын
Yeah I shamefully and embarrassingly used to think this way (I was far younger, now I’m on the cusp of 17) and Star wars was the first straw, then haunted living (happy haunts??), and finally kits was the final nail in the coffin so I basically ditched the game. It sucks cause I never got to play the Sims 2/3 due to me being young and my computer can’t run it and 2 isn’t available anymore so Sims 4 was my first taste of The Sims franchise and always thought the game was great! but then I went back and looked at Sims 2 and 3 videos and man the franchise fell hard.

Same, I am turning 17 later this year, and the only reason I am still playing is mods and the fact that ts4 helped me through the worst years of my life. I am honestly not sure if I want to spend more money on that game, although I am pretty sure I will.

Imagine paying for the Sims when it costs 60000 or so in Russian rubles. Do american people earn this much to pay for shitty games and can't bother to pirate?

I strongly dislike the Sims team. They act so close to the players, but that's just an excuse for them to be incredibly unprofessional and childish.

It's so hard to find honest videos like these. I've stopped watching simmers because they were getting paid to say good things. We know these packs are 💩 I feel like they should either START 👏 LISTENING 👏 TO 👏 US 👏 or just start over with the Sims 5. But I don't know much about business so I wouldn't know.

Gamedev here rant incoming. I understand the perspective of this video, I myself don't think the sims 4 is a perfect game, I enjoy it but it has a lot of problems, internal and external, let's begin with the community. I've been in communities since 2006 and let me tell you, the sims 4 is absolutely not at the top of toxicity (I've played a few MOBA) but we're really really near the top 3. Sim guru Linsay, have you seen her around since batoo? No? what about harrassing a person because she was doing her job (and probably forced to promote that s*it even if she didn't like it because, you know, it's her job). But let's move on. Oh and imagine being a dev and your fans keep asking for things like K N I T T I N G, omg I'll dump my job and go picking tulips in Denmark ffs. What about wherewolves, fairies, crazy s*it that made the sims franchise famous; no, better have K N I T T I N G. Moving on, Games are developed with engines, like unity and unreal 4 that are free to use and have humongous communities ready to develop more tools and resolve bugs, nice right? Forget it, companies have Custom Engines, wich are f*cking insane, broken and didn't have a fraction of the people to support the structure. That's why Paralives is looking better and that's why maxis probably had to sacrifice the firstborn of every dev to develop a bunk bed. On that note, EA is trying to milk the franchise like a starving vampire, that's self explainatory I think, If you need more explaination: my first pet stuff. Oh and do you remember when they made the game changers build the lots for snowy escape and everyone was like: "oh they sent the build very long ago, two months" and there was NOTHING on that map and some features didn't even exist? That f*cking scared me. Two months is nothing, you have to submit things at least a month prior to be approved and bugfixed, I unironically think that they crunched until madness and that's not healty for any human being. About bugfixing, sometimes is not done internally and the companies are paid by quantity of bugs reported and not quality, so they can report the same bug 120 times and they are good to go while in the game remains another 120 different bugs. (Btw you cannot realistically think to do a good testing in a month.) But my favourite is: why x modder has done this in half of the time? Because X modder didn't have EA on their neck, didn't have certification for xbox, sony, censorship, bugfixing, quality control, marketing, community and producers on their neck. And I'll not mention the politics going around the game industry because this post is already a wall of text. Why no sim guru told you this? Because we all are under NDA, and talking s*it about the company or another company can cost you the entire career. (funny, right? I actually don't give a damn, I think EA high floors are composed by purebreed boomers and that's why where they go the grass doesn't grow anymore) Am I defending EA? No. Am I defending Maxis? Yes. No dev deserves harrassment for doing their job. Period. If you want to hurt EA and their policy don't buy packs. Seriously, boicott the game if you think it's totally s*it, or you can buy the codes from codes sites, that's really really hurtful for them.

I agree while a good amount of the communitie's anger is justified but many of them are woefully misguided on how to properly direct that anger which is at EA and not targeting some poor overworked employee.

What really hit me most when I last played Sims 4 is that I *HAVE* to add mods to add more flavor to it. I've modded lots of games like skyrim, sims 3, fo4 but mostly because of fixes and just for fun. But for sims 4, without mods, it would really get stale immediately.
@apparentlyawesome13 жыл бұрын
You know what, I want to see somebody start a no mods or cc challenge. For one week, people playing Sims 4 play with no mods and no CC, just the base game and whatever packs they have and let's see how people feel by the end of that week. I know there are some people who play the game with none of that and still enjoy it, I'm not talking about them, but looking at some of the Sims groups I'm in and reading comments on social media you'd think some people were playing a totally different game than Sims 4, yet they also talk down on Sims 3 and 2 because they'd need so many mods and CC to make them playable and good looking enough. As if they aren't doing that for Sims 4 already. Some have been doing it for so long I don't think they know what's Sims 4 and what's CC or mods until a patch comes out and even then some refuse to play until they're all updated to work with the new patch.

So many people go out of their way to find the stuff that bothers them. Pretty much every single social media site gives you tools to filter, mute and block stuff that you don't want to see. Why don't people use them? Well, they want to see these comments so they can dogpile on strangers.

If this game was a $2 game, sure I'd be grateful. But if I'm paying a $50? $60 (I forgot how much it was sold when it first released) BROKEN game-- then no, I am NOT going to be quiet about it. It's bad enough that it's incomplete-- it's BROKEN! And you want me to shut up about it? lol. Oh and by the way, if no one complained, we would have never had ghosts, pools, toddlers, platforms, etc. So yeah, you're welcome. This is the only game I played where the developers don't want to listen to criticism. They think it's immature if people just bashed them. That's probably true, but you know what I play another game that has a community that is a thousand fold worse than the sims community in terms of toxicity, but their devs listen to their most toxic critics and, from their horrible launch (I'm talking about bugs galore and just bad game mechanics) to what is now one of the most staple and well-made MMO-RPG. If the devs and EA is mature enough they wouldn't ignore anyone in their community, it is in their best interest to at the very least listen to people who complain. And frankly, it is the devs who should be grateful to these "toxic" people. Also your line: "Maybe it is YOU who should just stop" is something that resonates to me so well. People think they are positive because they don't complain, when honestly they are being mean to people who criticize TS4, most of the people who complain, complain to EA and the devs. but these people who say some simmers aren't grateful attack their fellow simmers and are the ones that start the arguments.

Someone literally try to argue with me on KZbin saying parenthood is not about caring about ur kids (they said taking kids to ballet lessons). Which I don't have to explain why that dumbest thing to say right? I genuinely hate sims 4 and it's fans. No offense I am getting fed up even talking to these people. Sims 4 fans who are alright I don't mean you! The ones who constantly defend and never shut up and actually listen to the feedback I meant you people Also, poor players exist I can't stand how some players refuse to understand why maybe poor sims 4 players are upset paying for sims 4 stuff when they can and it's in this state. No one would bitch if they didn't break up everything to sell it. Snowy escape + the jungle game pack + strangerville + island living + eco-living and tiny living together as an expansion wouldn't make people so mad just saying!

I think this Parasocial Relationships at work... no one would feel *sorry* for millionaire company and their devs if they didnt post their silly little whining on twitter...if we didnt see them interacting with simmers or on livestream. BIG BRAIN move on EA to make a company RELATABLE with sim gurus faces on it. Bro... mods are doing this for FREE.... I dont mean to disrespect the gurus, Im sure they dont actively choose ts4 to be like that, but the mother company is Cashgrab central, and putting people on their side by making their employees some kind of influencers is working like a wonder... Meanwhile the packs that are 2 month old will never again be fixed... RIP dine out, you had potential

Lately I’ve been loving the sims 4, and I own 97% of dlc... but I have come to realisation that it’s not the game itself that I’m enjoying, it’s the mods I have installed. Mods that if I did not implement to my daily way to play, the game would be so flat and dead for me... hopefully with paralives it will urge ea as a company to do some bloody work, and not leave us to pick up the missing pieces (ie finding, updating, downloading mods)
@ahousecatwhohasacellphone3 жыл бұрын
I feel kinda nervous for the paralives devs, to be honest. since EA has consistently fallen short of fulfilling requests by sim players and giving their devs enough time to actually make something worth playing, I feel like a lot of sim players are gonna project that disappointment onto the Paralives devs (which is like what... 5 people?) and hold them to an insanely high standard
