Really interesting video-- thank you. I built a Pescott Whitehaven 11.7 which is amazingly similar to yours, except I had twin honda 20 outboards in, which I really, really liked. It was exactly the same philosophy as yours, keep it simple, light and go fast. We hit 19.7 knots on flat water with a bottle of wine on the table. I would take that boat anywhere, I have huge trust in her, however, I think for all cat sailors, the key ingredient is paranoia! Reef early and stay paranoid. Speed is never an issue, she'll always go fast enough. Also, jordan series drogue is one I really like. Cheers Phil

Cheers Phil. I do love the Pescott designs. Had a good look around one thats based in Keppel Bay.
@markthomasson50774 ай бұрын
Outboards, definitely agree. If your boat sails well, you don’t need them often, so diesels not required. How is it that so many KZbin sailing channels spend so much time mending diesels. If an outboard is needing repairs you can take it to an engineer. If it is really bad, drop it over the side!

I have a Whtehaven Pescott 11.7 as well, but did not build it. I love it, and Mark Pescott lives just down the road from me

@@SailingLearningByDoing Stick with what you have. Given that a good performing catamaran changes its apparent wind angle readily and that they tend to be directionally stable you are better off with exactly what you have,

Another really interesting informative video. I have a question about the rain water gathering. Do you add some water purification tablets or some sort of purification into the tanks. I know it's rain water and pure, but is it safe to drink after sitting in the tanks. You both did I mean you three did a fantastic job explaining the good and not so good parts of boating. Catch you next week cheers. Nice smile ELI at the end of this video.
@SailingLearningByDoing4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. No, we dont do put anything in the tanks. Once per year I'll empty them and clean with bleach, thats it.

Thank you for being so open about your lives. I was thrilled when you mentioned budget and how much you guys spend. So many other channels just wont disclose it. I am sure they have their reasons but us upcoming cruisers are desperate for that sort of information. We have a monohull and leave full time next Feb. We would love love love to cruise off shore but we have no idea if this is even possible on a budget. So if you ever want to do an episode on budgets needed for sailing Australia and indo.. please do share. I think it will be a very popular video.
@SailingLearningByDoing4 ай бұрын
Thanks! We did do a more in-depth video about our cruising costs a couple of years ago. Heaps of channels have done them but it's pretty random. Every boat is so different and every cruiser has also very different ideas as to what is necessary. As a very general guide, we spend about Au$1000 per month and then every 3-4 years do a refit and spend a few thousands more. The more remote you go, the less you will spend. Hang around Airlie beach and you''ll be broke in no time.
