The cost of this unit is fine. It’s what they charge for additional hard drive space that’s criminal. I can build an 80TB NAS quite cheaply (compared to their costs for storage). Then I could download EVERYTHING I buy on Kscape and feel like I do own it. Only having 10 movies on the unit is ridiculous. If they disappear as a company, and their access to everything you buy goes away, you literally will only have 10 movies to show for your investment. It’s the proprietary storage that is the main issue with Kaleidoscape! If I own it through them, then why can’t I put it on my own drives? Piracy maybe? It's good to see a downward trend in price while adding in DV but it will still be out of reach for most movie lovers. They will capture some customers as I think you are absolutely right for folks who may have a larger panel of 100" or more that has the ability to view Dolby Vision. That is a subset of enthusiasts who maybe willing to spend $4k along with some DV UST folks.

The effort from K-scape is appreciated. That music had me thinking Kendrick Lamar was gonna pop out with a new diss >_

Still a little too rich for my blood. Glad to see it’s a more reasonable price though. Thanks for sharing Shane.

Thanks Shane, still too expensive for me though. I will build my own at much less.

I have been waiting for a lower cost option...was hopeing for around $2k...but this is step in right direction. I am one that understands that the insane prices of Kscape has very little to do with hardware...it has to do with licensing Kscape has to oay the studios. Customers are essentially paying a high VAT for access to essentially buy movies from studios as best format/quality. It is definitly for a niche customer base even at $4k.

it's better to save that money for a bigger size

I heard rumors of 3tb. 30 movies would have been nice. It is more than I’m willing to pay but it’s good to see a less expensive option

Think of the Strato V as a local cache for movies you want to watch soon. You can purchase and own as many movies as you would like from the Kaleidescape store. Movies generally take less than 10 min to download on a gigabit connection.

The original price of the player was not bad, it's the prices of the HDD that are insane and hard for them to justify the cost they are selling them at.

I really wish they could do some kind of partnership with Netflix, AppleTV, Disney+, etc. Without this, every year they are loosing the appeal for me; I want an all-in-one player for movies at their highest quality video and sound.

Still too expensive. I guess I'm sticking with. 4k HD club and real debrid download.😊

How many UHD blu rays is it? 200? You can buy last two decades top 10 movies from each year. Not to mention kaleidoscope movies are more expensive than physical media no? This is totally missing the point - people with money don’t care if they spend 20k or 4k - they want to have storage and not needing to redownload content, because they can’t be asked to put physical media in. Those who don’t want to waste money won’t buy it even for 2k. Sony bravia is offering similar service and it’s for free - direct stream no downloads needed just buy and watch
