I love how Groucho was an honest-to-goodness fan of baseball. He brought it up during so many episodes.

mwoelfle Seen Don Drysdale segment. He was one hell of a pitcher and was used as a pitch hitter too. I was always glued to the TV on Saturdays in the fifties and sixties. Just not the same anymore. Just too many doping players cheating.

Lemon and Drysdale had much in common. Both were from the LA area (Drysdale from Van Nuys), both were good hitting pitchers (Lemon had come through the minors as an infielder before the Indians converted him to mound duty), both are in the Hall of Fame, both won World Championships and notched victories as the starting pitcher in a World Series game (Lemon in 1948, Drysdale in 1959, 63 & 65) and both made their living in baseball after they retired as players (Drysdale as an announcer, Lemon as manager of the Yankees and White Sox among other things). Groucho took a little dig at Lemon when he said that Durocher sent his regards. Durocher's Giants swept the Indians in the World Series that took place in the fall before this show was taped and Lemon lost two of the four games. But Groucho was smart enough to avoid saying the name of Dusty Rhodes. Old Dusty hit one of the cheapest home runs in World Series history in the 10th inning to win Game 1. It was a pop fly that would have been an easy out in any other ballpark, but in the Polo Grounds, it barely grazed the facing of the upper deck about 260 feet away. Lemon, knowing he had made a great pitch, slammed his glove on the ground and stormed off the field.

I was a bit puzzled as to why Dr. Rex didn't reveal his last name on the air. I know that at one time, it was considered unethical for a number of professionals, such as those in the fields of law and medicine, to advertise their services. It would seem as if there was a concern on someone's part, whether him or lawyers connected with the show/network, that his mere appearance on YBYL would be construed as advertising if he gave both his full name and profession. It seems to me that this wasn't a concern when other professionals appeared. And a minor addition to the info, Alice Armstrong's middle name was "Catt". Without seeing the spelling online, I thought maybe it was either a nickname or a diminutive for a name like Catherine and spelled like the feline animal.

Baseball was so great when many of the teams came from the state they played in and when every damn player wasn't popping with big necks on steroids and when a seat cost you $3 instead of $100. Pro sports are over like so many other things.

Roger A. Hamilton WAS in fact the inventor of the "Zoomerang" and had to sue a guy who tried to sell the same toy with the name "Zim Zoom". Roger got an injuntion to stop him.. I wonder how many Zoomerangs were sold? Is it sold today? Who sells them?

Based only on a quick Google search, the name "zoomerang" seems to be used now by several unrelated companies and is the name of at least one completely unrelated toy now. I'm guessing it was never trademarked. www.amazon.com/Zing-Toys-Zoomarang-Colors-Outdoor/dp/B003B315ZM

Zoomerang 39¢; about $4 today. Such a narrow age range to be a Qantas stewardess and required measurements. Miss America pageant ended revealing contestant measurements in 1986. The history of Qantas brags that up to 1992 their "flight hosteses" "...do not disappoint..." as the "...most visible glamorous marketing symbols....".
