Groucho Marx - You Bet Your Life

Fenneman gets a brief moment of minor revenge against Groucho in his intro of Rocky Marciano (returning from last week). Absolutely classic-- Fenneman was such a funny man in his own right.
And I still miss the duck.
COUPLE #1: Dr. James and Carolyn Jo Leonard (a "rotating intern" and his wife)
COUPLE #2: Karen Von Unge (from Sweden) / Rocky Marciano (boxing champ)

Wow Rocky Marciano was all class ! I guess people in the 60s were used to seeing him but this video is a testimony to younger generations about what a true champ he was, in every sense of the word.

My dad got Rocky's autograph. He was at a club in NYC. My dad was with his friends there too. My dad just got out of high school on his way to the Army. In the mid 50's. He said Marciano was a very nice guy. My dad was the only one that had the nerve to ask him. Dad passed in 2011. Rip to both.

Groucho was considere risque - that tells you something. They used to cut out talk that was too spicey and show it once a year to amuse the sponsors who always looked forward to it. They have some of these on KZbin and it is amazing how mild their 'forbidden' humor was back then.

I love the variety of ways that the $100 are being delivered! How awesome to see a legend as a guest and to see his personality. Also, what a beautiful woman Karen Von Unge is! And unattached at the time. Again, this just makes me believe that even though I enjoyed the 50's and 60's and remember those years fondly, I was just a child. How I would have liked to have been a young adult then and been able to meet Karen. She's beautiful and charming.

Dr. James Leonard, who appears in this episode, died on March 22, 2015. He initially pursued a career in academic medicine and taught as a professor of medicine at the University of Iowa, Johns Hopkins University, and the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He left academic medicine in 1973, and spent the remainder of his professional career in Atlanta as an otolaryngologist and a maxillofacial surgeon. He had retired to Florida at the time of his death. He and Carolyn Jo, who also appears here, did not remain married. She eventually became an attorney, and is apparently living in Slidell, Louisiana at age 80. Her and James' two children also reside in Slidell. James was remarried at the time of his death to Elizabeth Leonard.

Rocky's Manager Al Weill was just a puppet for Mafia Foot Soldiers Frankie Carbo & Blinkie Palermo, who controlled Boxing from 1935-1965. Weill was getting 50% before expenses inside the ring & outside the ring. The main reasons that Rocky retired was Weill was getting greedier and making side deals with Boxing Promoters and Marciano & his opponents were getting short-changed. When Rocky wanted to do appearances for charity for nothing, Weill demanded to get paid from Rocky's own money and instead of Boxing for a couple more years he decided to retire and he worked out lucrative deals to get paid under the table and leaving no paper trail. Rocky was just as popular as the U.S Presidents & Star Baseball Players. Moxing was at its absolute peak during the 40s-50s. Obviously during Ali's career inside the ring & outside it, he was the most popular person & the GOAT Athlete in the world during the 70s.

@@teller121 The Rock's marriage was in shambles as his wife had put on over 100 pounds and she was a big smoker & drinker. Marciano was a notorious womanizer on the scale of Sinatra & Elvis. Rocky demanded to be paid in cash to get around uncle sam and a different high class escort as part of the package deal. Marciano had a suitcase full of vibrators, ointments, gels and anything else hand to help him with his marathon sexual activities with multiple women.

Yes stated 60. The show should’ve just stayed out the air should’ve just kept running. It went into reroutes a few years later. But there was no reason for it to go off the air. And if you can see Groucho was well then he was in good condition he could’ve continued.

Talk about inflation! 3 million dollars must have seen the whole world then. Today fighters make in the tens of millions for a single fight. I have no idea what Rocky said his real name was "Francis"! That was his MIDDLE name. His real first name was ROCCO. So there's not much difference between Rocco and Rocky. From what I read, Rocky almost died as an infant until his grandmother, using traditional wisdom, found a way to make him eat chicken soup. And Tunney had more fights than Rocky (about 10 more), though Rocky had a few more championship fights. I thought Groucho interrupted Rocky a few too many times when Rocky was trying to explain money deductions.

My thought is Craig Ferguson, as host. George Feinman part no idea! There should be a producer who can make this happen for 2020.

Sonny Liston in his prime from 1958-1961, beats everyone except Ali from 1964-1967. In Ali's 1966 fight against Brian London, he threw 12 punches in 2.8 seconds. And in his fight against a washed up Cleveland Williams, Williams only landed 5 punches in the entire fight. Ali's handspeed, footwork and cat-like reflexes was 2nd to none. Just think about it, Ezzard Charles was able to split Marciano's nose in half and he cut Rocky's eye severely & between both of those cuts, it was a blood bath. Ali would've carved Rocky's face up like a hot knife going through butter.

@@mikewhitney8615 During the 70s maybe, but no way during his prime from 1964-1967. Even Sonny Liston from his prime in 1958-1960, healthy & in his best conditioning, doesn't beat Ali.Ali landed 12 punches on Brian London in 2.8 seconds. And Sonny's reach of 84" and his incredible left jab was swinging at pure air against Ali in 1964. I realize that Sonny was already injured with a pulled tendon in his left shoulder & he had a torn meniscus in his left knee and his diet was similar to Babe Ruths, consisting of hotdogs & cheeseburgers & a case of cold beer everyday. Marciano would've beat the 1964 & 1965 Liston that Ali beat. Rocky's training was 2nd to none.

@@richardmilliken8705 Ali's biggest advantage was height and weight as he normally weighed in at between 212 -214 lbs on a 6'3" frame, while Marciano fought at about 190 lbs or so and was just under 6' if I remember correctly. Many of yesterdays heavyweights would be cruiserweights today.
