Room correction is sound engineering witchcraft. It listens to the reverb in the room and adjusts the signal being sent to the speakers to compensate for that reverb based on their internal models of how the sound behaves in various spaces. The problem is that it has a hard time coping with particularly strange room configuration, since it is basically trying to use sound to figure out the shape of the room and how to optimize the sound so your room gain works out in your favor. Still, it has nothing over a sound engineer using models of the space and determining optimal speaker placement, treatment placement, and then running the room correction. But most people can't afford to have dedicated theaters or listening rooms, so we make compromises where we must.

Even if your room is right, the anthem receiver is amazing. I highly recommend anyone that's into good sound go to a showroom with Anthem receivers to demo them against literally any competitor. Even without the correction Anthem sounds better than anything it's price or lower, even if what you're comparing it with has room correction enabled I don't mean to shill, NAD and anthem are that much better than any of the consumer Brands you would find at Best Buy

@@NinjaQuick I love my older NAD stuff, but I can't see how the Anthem can be 2x better than a Denon X4700H. I got my X3600H for $800 on Black Friday 2 years ago and paired it with 2 PB-2000s. All in it was about the same price as what the single Anthem receiver cost. XT32 is very good as well.

As a sound professional. His choices are useless.. The Amp will never pass a quarter volume before neighbour will be pissed off.. All amplifiers like race car engines don't start working until they hit 3/4 volume... so unless you can hit 7 out of 10 on volume and be comfortable. You have blown a shitload of money.. also check speakers efficiency how many db at 1 watt at 1 metre..

Linearity of amplification is the aim for 99% of SS amps and especially home theatre usage, so he's not wrong at all that a higher headroom will give him a good amount more range for the amplifier to stretch it's legs before entering any distortion or clipping territory. Unless you really love that *BZZT* sound that SS has when it clips lol.

A note on subwoofers; After buying one I found it very distracting when watching movies, or when a commercial (which are always very LOUD) comes on. When you set the volume to hear the dialog, along comes some window-shaking explosion or dramatic music/sound during a dramatic moment. I kept adjusting it lower and lower to where it's almost somewhere between 0 and 1 on the dial. And there's no one setting that works for all movies or shows. It's either too loud or non-existent. It almost needs it's own dedicated remote volume control. If you live in a condo or apartment, expect a knock on the door from your angry neighbor(s).

If you live in a condo/apt. and have any kind of serious sound system there will always have to be compromises. I have a similar situation with dynamics (gunfire/explosions) so I set my audio system to Loudness Normalization, which compresses the dynamic range (most receivers and PCs have that setting), and helps keep the sound from drastically jumping from soft to loud. Of course, some of the immersion is lost, but that a multi-dwelling compromise you have to learn to live with. If you're lucky, you have a multi-speaker receiver setting (Dolby surround/Atmos/etc. which allows you to add a center channel speaker to your system. That way, you get adjust your bass-to-dialogue output so that it fits your environment and audio environment and taste better. Your dialogue will always come through loud and clear. Again, not a prefect solution -- since as you stated no two recording are exactly alike -- so you may still on occasion have to "ride" the volume control. Just not as often.

A subwoofer crawl is when you set the subwoofer in the place where the listener will be sitting, and then you literally crawl around the floor untill you hear/feel the bass at its best. Then you place that subwoofer where the bass is the best.
