ABOUT THE PIECE:
You broke it, you bought it is an exercise in dogfooding.
The piece takes three bars of my own re-composition of Mozart’s Coronationconcerto and stretches, elaborates, reharmonizes, and otherwise melds them into an athletic duo featuring lots of hockets.

Timo Andres (b. 1985, Palo Alto, CA) is a composer and pianist who grew up in rural Connecticut and now lives in Brooklyn, NY. A Nonesuch Records artist, his newest album of orchestral works, Home Stretch, has been hailed for its “playful intelligence and individuality,” (The Guardian) and of his 2010 debut album for two pianos, Shy and Mighty, Alex Ross wrote in The New Yorker that “it achieves an unhurried grandeur that has rarely been felt in American music since John Adams came on the scene… more mighty than shy, [Andres] sounds like himself.”
Andres’s recent works include a new piano concerto for Jonathan Biss and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and a string quartet for the Takács Quartet, commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Shriver Hall Concert Series. He tours with fellow composer/performer Gabriel Kahane-for whom he has written a new work, commissioned by Carnegie Hall-to Carnegie, the Newman Center in Denver, the Schubert Club in St. Paul, and UNC-Chapel Hill, and with Philip Glass, joining the composer in performances of Glass’s complete piano Études, with dates in Mexico City and Chicago. (These follow past performances with Glass at Brooklyn’s BAM, San Francisco Performances, the National Concert Hall in Dublin and London’s Barbican Centre.)
Other recent highlights include commissions from the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and a consortium including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and San Francisco Performances for Jonathan Biss and the Elias String Quartet.
As a pianist, Andres has performed solo recitals for Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, the Phillips Collection, (le) Poisson Rouge, and San Francisco Performances. He appeared at the 2014 Ojai Festival with the Knights Chamber Orchestra, and performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the North Carolina Symphony in January and May 2015.
Andres earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yale. He frequently performs with the new music ensemble ACME and is one sixth of the Sleeping Giant composers’ collective.

Evan Chapman is a percussionist, videographer, videographer, and teacher based out of Philadelphia, PA. Evan received a Bachelor of Music in Classical Percussion Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2013, and has since gone on to build a freelance career in both the contemporary-classical and indie rock worlds.
Evan is an active performer, most notably as co-founder and drummer in the instrumental percussion rock/electronic trio Square Peg Round Hole. The group’s debut album, Corners, was met with critical acclaim after its 2013 release. Since then, the group has performed concerts and festivals with major-label artists including Mae, Built to Spill, Lily & Madeleine, The Album Leaf, RJD2, Dawn of MIDI, Kneebody, and more, and has played at major venues across the country including the Electric Factory (Philadelphia), World Café Live (Philadelphia), Old National Centre (Indianapolis), Le Poisson Rouge (NYC), and the Treefort Music Festival (Boise).

Sean McFarland (b. 1991) is a composer from Baltimore, MD that writes music dealing with the human experience. He has studied under a wide variety of composers including Stuart Saunders Smith, Linda Dusman, Roger Reynolds, and Ian Power. An avid collaborator, Sean has previously created works with The Atlas Composer’s Collective and Rhymes With Opera, in addition to writing multiple pieces for dance. He has also written for some of America’s most distinguished performers, including Gleb Kanasevich and the JACK Quartet.
Outside of composing, Sean is an eccentric multidisciplinary guitarist who performs everything from African praise music to free improvisation, while maintaining a private studio of students. Thoroughly entrenched in the DIY ethic, Sean works with Carriage House, Charm City Art Space, and other organizations to promote and preserve independent music in Baltimore. Most recently, he completed “Here” for wind ensemble and playback as part of the Wiley H. Bates Middle School Teaching Artist Residency.

Vic firth is just the best. Thanks for making the best drumsticks on this planet and for making all those rudiment videos. I´m working so hard at the moment to become the drummer I want to be. Thank you ! :-)
