True! “The Homeless Firefighter” channel springs to mind. That guy lived out of his truck for a year, saving every penny possible. Had a killer down payment for a house. It can be done. I love that stuff!

I think the best thing with minimalist living is you got used to live cheap, and content with it. I'm content with my life and haven't increased my living cost since college days. Now I'm using 20% of my net income to live. work for 1 year, you can get 4 extra years not working. I don't even need to adjust my living expenses like those who earns a lot but still live paycheck to paycheck. work for 10 years, that's retirement plan done. Now I already set aside assets for retirement plan, and a fully paid house too, I'm working for "things". Financially able to retire is good. But working 1-2 years extra to have extra funds to enjoy your retirement is also good. It's not like my friends are all retired and have time to hang out with me all the time. So dunno, just work till I don't want to work anymore or something. I don't have any more pressure financially. What I'm doing is saving to renovate my house. Soundproofing a room, and make like home theater, for watching and video games, pool table, and a rack of board & card games. BBQ place on the back yard. Bathtub with whirlpool, and massage chair. Make a den to hang out with friends. Baseball cards? coins? I'm 37, also starting getting back into pokemon cards game again.

I'd be worried about inflation changing the value of your savings and the living costs. I also hear that pokemon cards can actually go for a lot of money if they're the original ones. Too bad the Digimon cards don't seem to have the same value. I kept my boxes of old hobby stuff dry and reasonably well maintained, so hopefully there will be some value in them.
@rtbear6748 ай бұрын
@@Thalanox It's hard to know what will happen 20 years in the future. Though it's not like you can't adjust your life, go out again and earn some more money anymore once you retire. Having precious metals, investments, etc helps retain your money's value. Unless something really unexpected happen. Imagine you are a successful man, just finished paying your house, have your own local business in a strategic place, you think you are set for life, celebrating christmas 2021 with foreigner friends from abroad visiting your place in ukraine. Shit happens. I also can go out tomorrow and got hit by drunk driver. And never got to enjoy my hard work. For the card, my pokemon will be for tcg playing. not much expensive card for collecting. So I have like 10 decks with spare cards around the same era and power level. If my friends are coming, want to play and don't have their own deck, can just use mine. And whatever card I have in the box to customize the deck.

Those hotels in the Philippines sounded terrible. I was just checking out Airbnb in Manila, and it looked pretty good. I have nothing but good experiences with Airbnb. So if I were going to Manila, I'd pre-book Airbnb with self-checkin. And in the unlikely event there's a problem, just cancel and book into a nearby Airbnb.

Hmmm interesting numbers, I'd like to know what general field this guy works in. 2 Million for investments and a house bought and paid for? Not even 40? How does a debt based financial system hinder his ROI? We're all well aware of the financial system and the implications. How would you factor him living to 70 when his 2 million is the equivalent of 100k by that time?

My buddy bought back 13 years from the Colorado prison system. He's currently 65 and has netted above and beyond what his salary would have been over 300k. The state did away with that option years ago. Back in the day a year would cost 7k. Crazy opportunity.

Women working less? Tell me about it. I checked out the annual income of my former colleagues in the online commie salary database in Norway: The guys I checked out were at average about 100k USD a year. The girls were at about 30k USD a year. Same exact job, same payment per word, but earning about 1/3. Freelance translating is effective if you're a guy, cuz women don't work. This ridiculous dynamic is why the average for a translator is around 50k USD. Besides the fact that some foolish men prefer wage slavery / employment over freelancing.
