Reasons why I follow you: - I like your sense of humor. - I like your world view. - I'm a bisexual woman and it's rare to see bi women openly talk about themselves online. - I like hearing you talk because you're clear and methodic, even if 9/10 times it's about something I don't know, you digest these current news/dramas/media for me, which is very useful for my autistic brain that would get overwhelmed trying to follow all that on my own.

You definitely took the right path. I say that as someone who niched so far down, and then my niche (a segment of the Minecraft community) went away essentially. How does a niche just go away?
@juniferberries98912 жыл бұрын
@@antoineberkani9747 Many niches aren't evergreen and do go away or dwindle to such low numbers that it's not viable if you do want to make a living on youtube. Got popular playing a specific game and only that game? Well, now the game is dead. If it's online, the servers could be literally disconnected. If it was single player, people could move on and the game could have less than 100 players in an entire month via steam metrics, et cetera. There's some niches like crochet that will always have fanbase, but then you're still picking from a very small pool, so you can hit a ceiling of this can't be sustainable for my goals--which is another thing that happens a lot when people niche down too much. Influencers who were pushing dropshipping as a business learned this (or already knew it). They made insane money pushing the model, then when it began to die to tiny numbers, they didn't care because they had made so much selling courses and via youtube ad revenue + affiliate links that they either disappeared into obscurity or started up a new niche. But dropshipping itself was about noticing niche markets that can last a few weeks to a few months, monopolizing on them, then moving on.

You've set yourself up for success by (1) understanding what drives success on KZbin (personality-driven content) and (2) not falling into the trap of riding a trend to the top. A lot of KZbinrs become really famous, really quickly, by picking the right subject matter at the right time, but then that subject matter becomes irrelevant and it's an uphill battle to keep going. Whereas being an appealing person to listen to and watch is timeless, meaning you can grow in a more sustainable way and not necessarily crash and burn like the rest.

I've literally never been able to perform a persona consistently and it wasn't until I started to work in psychology/therapy that I found a space where my inability to perform was seen as a good thing. I'm a self-published author, found your channel through your booktok/cult video, and now I'm watching this... First of all, love the content. And second, I love how you and I are coming to opposite conclusions but have the same attitude! So, as a self-published author, I basically was drenched in other self-published authors saying "This is the way to do it. This is how the algorithm works. This is how social media works. This is how you manage your platform", etc. And, I mean, their advice wasn't horrible. I wasn't reading/watching these creators and going "oh wow that's too much" or "that's so unrealistic". But I noticed that, for me, as I tried to implement their advice, I began to struggle so, so much, and this came down to realizing that I just didn't produce the kind of content that was formatted/picked up on those kinds of algorithms in the first place. Now I've had to go back and rethink my entire strategy for how I plan on releasing content, and I've come to realize... I don't like the Amazon way. I'm an episodic writer. I prefer write things in serial formats, releasing one or two chapters a week, and the only way that would work on Amazon is if I use Vella, which is frankly very predatory and demanding. So... yeah. After I've come to that conclusion, I realized that I basically was going to have to start all over again to have a chance of finding success in a format that worked well for me. But, at the same time, I'm okay with that. Better to start over and find your passion/work style than to run your head into the same wall a thousand times over, right? So needless to say, different conclusions (you saying don't go niche and me realizing I need to), but the same attitude! "You don't have to do the same thing as everyone else!" Anyway, thanks for your content! You seem to be pretty cool and I can't wait to check out more of your channel!

Tana-Con got recommended during the Panaroma after I watched some drama-videos about Tana and I was like, "This person is too smart to be doing drama-videos." Then I watched other videos and was like, "If we ever get to have gatherings again, this is someone I'd invite to a dinner party because she'd have stories and be able to keep things going."

I genuinely don't remember which of your vids I saw first but I liked that listening to you reminded me of how much I enjoy listening to my friends gush over something new they've learned or tried. It's parasocial, sure, but you're always interesting and funny. Plus I love supporting other bi women 💜

Love this discussion! KZbin is constantly evolving and if you're trying to jump on a trend, it won't always work. Just do what makes you happy!

There's only a handful of KZbinrs that I could listen to talk about anything, even if I know nothing about it, you're one of them. You find a way to make it interesting, I like that there's no niche. It's a fun surprise to see what the video is about.

I often subscribe to people after watching one video and checking out what other content they have to see if it's something I'd like to watch. I follow you for you and because you explain things in a way that my brain can fully grasp it if that makes sense lol

I like you because of your no bullshit attitude and because you have a nice, straight presentation. A lot of channels don't really appeal to me because the people in them seem unnatural

I just started watching your videos recently, and I could listen to you talk about anything. It's a shame I hadn't found you on here sooner!

truly appreciate this video. i’ve been on this platform for a long time doing booktube but i’m so tired of how formulaic that content is. i rebranded recently and i’m so much happier. much love ✌🏻

I was brought to your channel because of the Tanacon video and I'm so glad I stayed. I love watching anything you put out because I like learning about things through your perspective. And if I already know about something, I still wanna hear what you have to say about it. You're a breath of fresh air in a world full of repetitive content.

Youre one of my favorite video creators. Your videos get me laughing. I find the videos very interesting even if i dont care about the topic, idk some how you make it interesting and i get hooked into the topic. Im so happy for you and your success! I am surprised you arent at 1 mil yet, you deserve it!

I’ve always followed you because you are compassionate, charming and very insightful. If I had to try to put you into a kind of box I would say “swell talks about a lot of stuff from pop culture to products with earnestness and integrity”

I feel like you fall under the "Commentary" channel. I follow you for your personality and how open you are about expressing a thought that comes across your mind. It's clear you're not talking with a script and it's refreshing. I followed you from one of your product reviews and after one video I subscribed. Don't change, you're doing great :)

First vid I saw was the bridgerton ball experience, and I loved how you were like “I’m here and going to fully give this a go” and I think you’re a fabulous storyteller - most of your topics I’m only peripherally aware of but you give enough context that I can keep up and I love hearing your perspective

I love your content because no matter what you cover, you always manage to break down the topic in an engaging, funny, and digestible way.

i feel like i’ve been a subscriber from your early days, maybe not, but i’ve stuck around because you’re one of the few youtubers who seem actually genuine. you’re not cookie cut. plus, i like how you still use the og iphone commercial jingle.

I watch your because i like your voice, not hearing the "youtuber" voice it's refreshing, sometimes you do interesting videos and the fact that you just talk, not having to pay attention to every single word you say makes your videos perfect for hearing in the background while working.

I think you are so likable because you are so open and honest. I feel like a close friend is talking to me about whatever issue, instead of some “youtuber” who is larger then life and completely out of touch. You admit when you don’t know something. You tell it like it is, with no bullshit. To top it off your funny, and you have that adorable puppy! I also just love that I never know what your video is going to be about. Even if it’s something I’ve never heard of before you lay out all the important information and make it easy to understand. Not to mention always interesting. Keep up your amazing work!

It took me waaay less than 7 videos to subscribe to you! I like watching your videos because of your personality and basically in short, because you make them. I watch all the videos you make because I want to hear your opinion and your thoughts. And you make every subject you do enjoyable to watch. I would really like if you did a paint by numbers painting for a video. You talked about doing them before and I would be soooo interested in seeing that from you!!! Thank you for making videos, they always make my day :)

I follow you because you really remind me of myself: blunt, honest, and a bit all over. Honestly, I love that you don’t have a niche. I watch your videos because I specifically want to hear what you have to say

Spot on the whole…it’s YOU and not necessarily your talking points! You deserve all the success for all the work you’ve been putting in. That’s not always going to applicable for everyone…some people just don’t have the personality for it…and for those folks, niching down may be the right way to go as they become experts in their topic. I think we’re just happy that you’re here. Thank you.

I discovered you today. You showed up on my front page, probably because I'm about to launch a channel and have been scouring YT for tips. This was the last part of the puzzle. I was really worried about my wildly divergent interests, but maybe that's the niche...people who like a crazy-varied range of content presented by someone interesting. I sincerely thank you for making this...if my channel gets any hint of success, I will proudly credit you in every venue.

I subbed to you exclusively because of your charisma. I don't even care about or follow the things you talk about. Shit, i don't even use social media. But you still manage to keep me engaged. Also you're fucking funny.

Reading the comments and watching this video gave me proud friend feelings, I started following because my best friend shared a video (I literally have no clue how long ago) and now we make jokes about having a parasocial relationship with you as a member of our friend group 😂. We’re here for our pal Amanda who runs swell entertainment 🤷🏼♀️ keep having fun doing whatever!
