It must be so difficult to teach some of the best trombone players in the world... Crazy that he admits he's looking for students who are already at such a standard that they would probably improve without further instruction.

Well, it depends on the Teacher. I studied with Steve Dyer of the Winnipeg Symphony and always called him Steve, though I was about 15 years older then him. But when I was younger I called my Teacher Mr. I teach a little privately, beginners before I send them off to better teachers after I get them started, and even in my 60s, I always insist they call me Art. We're just Musicians making music and enjoying our Art. And honestly, it's personal preference and depends on what they as teachers, find is comfortable for them. I guess if I met Mr. Alessi, I'd call him Joe out of respect before I'd call him Joe.
