Simply True... like how I hear people being concerned about learning intricate hyperrealistic skin textures, when they haven't nailed down basic drawing techniques

Yes, exactly! People seem to (unknowingly) focus on the wrong things 😊

Changing the image to grayscale has helped me to see the correct tone in my pallet and my work. Thank you for that hint. You mentioned it in a previous clip and now my phone has turned into a handy tool full of grayscale images of colour swatches, reference photos and work in progress. This has helped me organise my pencils in their tonal values so a big thank you to you Kirsty Rebecca for that.

Again, just beautiful work Kirsty! Awesome to have such a talented Aussie artist to learn from! I know the supplies you use are going to be available here, which is very helpful. You also explain everything so clearly. Thank you for all your videos & the hard work involved, it’s much appreciated.

I've always thought I was a messy artist... I'd spend too much time for sure on the middle part more loose painting. As I get better I see where I've been doing the wrong things wasting time when I could get better results doing something similar to what you have been showing. You have been so clear in what you say and your method! Just wonderful.

It looked beautiful without adding colored pencil. Is the pencil for texture?
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt3 жыл бұрын
The pastel pencil is just to help define some of the details and textures 😊

Tips I've learned too include printing my reference photo in black and white and mounting it beside my work in progress. This way I can easily monitor my values. At the same time, I refer to my colour reference photo on my phone, and I can blow up the image in the spot I'm working on to get all the detail I need.
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely having a black and white version of the reference photo can be helpful! 😊

Kirsty, I totally agree, values are so important for getting a realistic look, I also compare my drawings alongside my reference on my mobile and this helps me judge which areas need to go darker or lighter, have you heard if the fino app or artists eye app, this is a great and easy way to draw out your initial layout, your art is awesome and wish you all the best 😍
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt3 жыл бұрын
They definitely are! I have tried the artists eye app but I can't get my brain to work it out haha

I'm really enjoying your videos! Your tips are so helpful and your work is rich and beautiful - I love watching the layers really bring the subject to life. What material are you using as you work to protect the piece against smudging from your hand? Thank you.

I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm resting my hand on glassine (this one is actually the sheets that come in between the paper in Pastelmat pads) but you can also use tracing paper 😊

For me ,personally, i don't really care about the overall hours but i would have a really hard time to work on a drawing for weeks. I have not a "time limit", so it doesn't matter for me if my drawing is in 6 hours complete or in 20 hours, but working on a piece for weeks 🤯 so thats why i draw as long as i can for every day
@AafkeVultink2 жыл бұрын
Wish Ive seen the trace with soft pastel on printout earlier :P You have no idea how many precious pastelmat I wasted bc i didn't know that would work the bloody same way hahahahahaha well live to learn I got me the canson mi teintes touch for practice lol

it depends... if you're drawing to post on instagram, it wont be seeing by far. If you draw to put up on a wall, than ok, doesnt matter the details...
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! It does depend on your goal! Although, if you create larger pieces of work, when you upload them to instagram, they look a lot smaller and more detailed (which is the same as looking at your work from further back) So it depends on the size (and the goal of your work) but I'm just here to say that you don't 'need' super fine details to make something look realistic - unless you want to add them - then it's totally up to you 😊
@5379jj2 жыл бұрын
@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt yeah, it takes a lot more time as you said... Your videos are awesome !

I shorten my drawing time by half when switching from graphite and colour pencil to pastels 😂😂😂😂
