New firmwares just go released for fujifilm cameras. XT5 XH2S XH2 XS20 etc. Just installed it, I can still downgrade Yes, they fixed the "Hand detection" but.... I've tested only video AF (played with it 10 minutes) and firmware 1.03 is still the best one. On 7.0 still lags behind. 1.03 is much snappier ( I downgraded again ) We'll make a video about this soon , It will probably be my last video about fujifilm autofocus because honestly I'm tired of this. I would literally avoid downgrading - EVER. As an embedded firmware engineer - this is dangerous. You do not know what you are doing to a camera in the long term. There will be all sorts of memory maps held in flash that you have no idea will have an impact on anything now or in the future. Fujifilm will almost certainly wash their hands of you if you follow this path and have problems in the future. Best to wait for them to fix issues and keep moving forward.

I love my Fuji XT5 and x100F. Thankfully, I’m incredibly lazy and hardly ever update my firmware! No new issues here. Just the usual suboptimal autofocus system 😂. But I’m loving my Voigtlander 27mm f2 manual focus lens. Honestly, if I were the CEO of Fujifilm, I’d do three things: (1) Hire a bunch of Sony guys who know how to make a great autofocus system and get it rolled out as quickly as possible, (2) Get production ramped way up, so we stop announcing cameras that we can’t deliver on, and (3) commit to launching the xPro 4 sometime in 2024. Just my two cents fwiw.

There's a difference between being a fanboy and simply lying to yourself like most people do. I like the feel of my XT5, I like the IQ and dislike it at the same time. Same with autofocus. I like the sharpness of the lenses and the lens options. I dislike that Lightroom messes the X-Trans sensor and you need to use Enhance if you want all details back. I hate the worms that appear in photos in Lightroom if you don't use Enhance. I like the idea of FilmSims but at the same I don't use them in-camera. And you could to them with any camera if you shoot RAW. I used to shoot with a 450D that had "LUTs" in Lightroom, and you could also upload the profile to the camera. I dislike the autofocus sometimes. I had a 70D and a 90D before moving to Fuji and the tracking was ahead of Fuji. I've tested also Sony and it's out of this league, years ahead. And lets be honest, Fuji will not be near Sony or Canon too soon. Simple autofocus is working fine, the tracking or AF-C is the one that's shit on the latest firmwares. It isn't great on the previous ones either, but at least it doesn't show a green box when subject/eye detection is not in focus. If I compare the previous firmware to my 70D, I can say it does 90% of what Canon could do in 2013/2014 era when AF is working OK. BUT most of the time the tracking is not doing what it should, then 2 minutes later it's working OK, after that it's not working as it should again. At least be consistent... Let me work with the camera... If I'm not using the camera correctly like the fanboys that are lying to themselfes say, let me learn how to do it, but I have different results every time and I cannot learn from mistakes if doing the same thing twice gives different results. And after all I said, I still consider myself a fanboy, I just recognize and admit the flaws that my camera has. Do the flaws bother me that much? Not really, not for what I do with my camera. I do hobby photography, and most of my subjects are static in 99% of the time, so tracking is not a problem for me. In the rest of 1% of the time when I use tracking I see the problems but it's not bothering me that much so I change to other system. Nikon and Panasonic had the same issues in the past, they both managed to fix the autofocus when big reviews sites complained. Maybe in 5 years we will see a better AF from Fuji too!

Hi edvard, thank you for keeping us update regarding to fujifilm focus issues. I've been following your channel since the autofocus issues blows up. I have used Fuji XS20 since it was released last year, and this year, the autofocus issues is troubling me a lot. Everytime I shoot, I have to check every photo on the spot whether it's missing focus or not. I have shot wedding and couples frequently, but when I update to the latest firmware, even a still -family photo was missing focus. I was so furious when I check on my laptop when this happened. I shot 4 photo and 3 of them miss, but sometimes all of them were missing focus. There has been a rumour that they are launching an update this month to repair this issue, but I was afraid they would notice our voice here. I wonder when this issue is gonna end...

I am not sure - was this released the day before the new release which apparently fixed it. I am a software engineer working on real-time embedded systems - it is generally a very a bad idea to downgrade. You only have to hope they move forward. The problem is this...if you ask a team of software engineers to consider all possible firmware upgrade possibilities, they will actually have to spend more time on that, than actually fixing problems or releasing new features. The testing effort is actually combinatorial in terms of complexities - do not do what this guy suggests. It is all random and untested - and he can not predict what will happen to your camera.

I don't feel like it's random and untested. He made videos demonstrating the difference over and over. Surely when 1.03 was initially released it was well tested. Maybe even by a complex group of combinatorial specialists. If I used my x-h2 for vlogging I would be inclined to downgrade from 3.01 to 1.03 even if there is some risk. For all we know they're intentionally making it worse to push people into higher margin medium format products

Downgraded xh2s to 1.03 and had a wedding yesterday. Brought a6700 with myself (just to be sure and in peace) and tried xh2s. My gosh, its for real, 1.03 worked niiiiice, not as good as sony but hey, niiiiice! I dont remember having af issues at all ❤

I just downgraded mine yesterday and saved my settings for 1.01 on my x-t5. Autofocus is now better. Then I upgraded to 2.10 and saved the settings again. You are right you cannot restore your settings if they were made in a higher version to a lower version.

There's a setting called 'zone area switching' in custom AF-C settings, which allows you to tell the camera when to jump to 'the other thing'. 'Center' should mean that it won't move until the other thing is in the centre of the frame, or 'front', when it goes anywhere, frame wide, in front of the thing it's currently focused on. There's also an auto setting which is, in my experience anyway, is no use, as the camera isn't reliable in front or centre settings, so asking it to make it's own mind up is even less reliable. As @vladastojanovic4776 says below though, there's no ability to turn it off (as far as I'm aware) so the camera is always going to switch at some point, regardless of what your settings are. There is 'speed tracking sensitivity' which from my understanding sets how slow/quick the camera should be distracted by/jump to 'the other thing', but even if you have that set to zero, it'll still switch at some point in my experience. And all of that is in place before we even start on it giving you false positives, or not seeing an eye but jumping to an ear instead. That's the most annoying for me - the camera saying it's focused on one thing when it's actually focused on something else!

Insane, love your channel. Yes it's crazy, fuji has so much going for it but focusing is a fundamental requirement when taking any photo or video for that matter. If one messes up on focusing what is the use for the rest of a camera's functionality. It's all in the capturing and that capturing depends on slick intelligent focusing of all types and kinds such as eye detection to basic object detection. Caliber camera's such as yours x-h2s should not be suffering such ill focusing at all. Hope fuji resolves this quickly, they are loosing traction in the market place due to their unreliable focusing. There is a video "Fujifilm X-T3 AF Tracking Test" by bigheadtaco, 5 years ago. At 1:31 there is hand waving all the time in front of the face but camera was perfectly focused on eyes. 5 years latter, flagship camera and total disaster. It is hilarious!

I’m a headshot and portrait photographer in Los Angeles who currently shoots on the Fuji XT5 and the X100V. While I love Fuji, the autofocus is INCREDIBLY frustrating. I’m 53, trained on film (Nikons) and I’ve shot every system from Canon to Olympus, Leica to Nikon. Fuji has my heart but I’ve grown very tired of losing about 25% of my shots due to missed autofocus, especially since these are paid shoots. Luckily, I’ve been able to up my hit rate to close to 90% using manual focus or selecting the point slowly myself. Thank god I don’t shoot video with my Fuji. I’m seriously considering jumping into Sony. I value light weight (bad back), fast and accurate autofocus, affordability and reliability. I went to my local camera store yesterday and tried a bunch of Cameras, from the Nikon Zf to the Canon R5 to the Sony A7’s and the tiny Sony A6700. Of all the cameras I tried, the A6700 left me the most impressed. It just worked. The autofocus is INCREDIBLE, the grip is fantastic, the fit and feel and build quality are amazing for the price and it was even lighter than my X100V. Long story short, I’m gonna see what’s up with the next firmware and if it isn’t good, I’m gonna sell my XT5 and lenses and get that Sony. I’ll keep my X100 as it focuses fine.

Thanks for doing what you’re doing. I’ve been a Fuji user since the release of the xpro1. I’ve stuck with the system because I was invested in the lenses and enjoy rangefinder style cameras. I have an xh2s to do video work and Fuji is so far behind all the other brands now. They had a huge head start on video phase detect autofocus on Panasonic and Panasonic surpassed them on their first attempt. They need some pressure to be put on them

A few days ago, Fujirumors posted about an upcoming firmware update that aims to fix the autofocus problem and add the Reala Ace film simulation to the X-T5. However, as a longtime Fujifilm user and owner of the X-T5, I'm not expecting too much. Fujifilm seems to be playing games when it comes to autofocus, which is disappointing. It's frustrating to see a decline in performance. It's high time Fujifilm stops focusing on the wrong things and addresses their autofocus issues once and for all. What good are the film simulations and beautiful Fuji colors if I end up with out-of-focus images? Thanks for speaking out on these issues. Maybe Fujifilm will listen.

Fuji have phase dictect af since a long time and it seems they still couldn't get it right. And then there is lumix, which refused to let go of their DFD autofocus tech which was too poor in continuous autofocus and people got tired of complaining for them to adopt phase dictect which is crucial for video work. And just in short span after finally implementing it first in S5ii ,look how good their AF system in their recently released g9ii and gh7. Its almost on sony level. Like Casey on camera conspiracies jokes about😂, this time its fuji who should sent their AF developing team into a dungeon to work it out.

5 things 1 use one eye in focussing setting, setting 3 in sensitivity ...clean your sensor ..use right lenses and lastly use a slightly higher shutter speed and this will enable you to capture the shop. Also be mindful of light and where you're standing and dammit stop shooting everything at 1.2 images look rubbish anyway if you shoot at 2.8 you will get much better auto focus and image quality. These are my top five Fuji tips and yes I've shot weddings with it as well and got a 94% hit rate....XT5 with viltrox 75 1.2 and 35 1.4 and just a tip viltrox is more accurate

I see Fuji didn’t update the x-t50 - maybe already had the fix. I don’t do video so can’t comment but for stills photo it’s working great for me. Face detect is vastly better than it was on xe4 generation. Even on moderate lower light. Need to try a few more ace ratios at night though.

My XT4 is unusable after updating it to 2.11, pictures taken are extremely dark even though the exposure compensation settings and dial is by default. It was not like this before updating. I don’t know how to fix it

Sounds like you're using some auto or priority mode. Just shoot completely manual exposure. Double check your metering mode too

I shoot a majority of my professional work with manual focus and cine lenses, but I have tried AF with native lenses and had issues. Since then I haven’t touched the AF again and wouldn’t trust it. As for stills, the AF is okay, but still not on the level of the competition.

Hi Edvard. I enjoyed watching the show with X-H2s and was planning the transition from my 5 year old X-T3 to the a6700. And then I thought: I'll try the same test as you. And so. On the Fujiflm X-T3 on 5.11, all the cases with blurry face and sharp hand are reproduced one-on-one! That's why I think that AF was better in the eyes on earlier firmware (If only I could try.. But I don't want to take any downgrade risk), but now it doesn't hit at all (I'm shooting a moving daughter of 2 years old. ~60-70% blurry with tamron 17-70 on every settings). I thought the problem was only with the X-T5 and X-H2s. Well, that's it..

At this point I have a trouble believing that such big company as fujifilm would just "miss" that every firmware worsens their AF capabilities. It's crazy talk, but I call foul play. Some bs behind doors agreements with other big Japanese companies to make sure the market is segmented between those. How else would that shit happen? Every firmware, the AF gets worse and not in some weird conditions, but obviously getting just worse in every way. Mhm

Fuji is totally lost. They will need several years to overcome this if they take it seriously. Otherwise they will not be even comparable with other camera brands in next years when it comes to AF!

Hi, I have been a fan of Fuji since I have many camera problems that they have tried to fix on gfx 100s than hardware problems on the xH2 and autofocus that the camera could not work properly also with photos in continuous mode. I did not use the camera for video work because its focus problem. Recently I have to return the camera for ever. I work now with mft lumix camera for shorting videos. The contrast autofocus with face eye recognition is good and since the combination with the lidar of Dji is very good. I believe that the lidar and face eye AI will be the future and it must be integrated into the camera body as well. I will never upgrade to full frame video for filming because of the price of the cinema lenses and because of its weight.

Thanks for doing what you’re doing. I’ve been a Fuji user since the release of the xpro1. I’ve stuck with the system because I was invested in the lenses and enjoy rangefinder style cameras. I have an xh2s to do video work and Fuji is so far behind all the other brands now. They had a huge head start on video phase detect autofocus on Panasonic and Panasonic surpassed them on their first attempt. They need some pressure to be put on them
