I'm a high school art teacher and I'm so impressed with your knowledge and passion for this subject. I'm showing your video to my advanced students to help them understand what it means to research an idea for art-making and stay committed to it. Way to go Devin!

how to draw anything in a nutshell 1. chose a subject 2. gather tons of reference on subject 3. set aside 20-30 minutes drawing said subject 4. rinse and repeat!!! 5. imagination - try to draw your subject from imagination do a 20 minute study session 10 minutes with ref 10 minutes without and bring back at the end to see how well you did

I've been following Devin for a while on Instagram, and I've always thought about how priceless her processes was; and just how amazing it is that she's giving out such high-quality art tips/tutorials for free, and for everyone to see. Also, her art is just my absolute favorite! From her astonishing storytelling, to amazing atmosphere and so much more. I came along Devin's channel just recently, watched this video and I know you won't see this, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart for inspiring me to start becoming a better artist ❤ This video just made it so digestible to start from the scratch, without being confused where and what to do. What used to overwhelm me didn’t so much anymore, and this really helped me to babystep towards art improvement.

I tried this and it worked. I'm working on a comic and there is a part which involves a horse... alot... and I'm happy to say I can draw a horse pouring a cup of coffee rubbing the sleep from his eyes complaining about how it's monday and he has to go to work. My life is complete.

I have a tendency to put great artists on a pedestal and picture them as being just as ethereal as some of their art, but your demeanor is so similar to my little sister’s that it totally threw me for a loop. She’s straightforward, funny and laid back. She is a fantastic artist but where you two majorly differ is where she has no confidence in her skill level. I’ll be showing this video to her in hopes of giving her a confidence boost. :)

Wow! You collected here a ton of good advices! I agree with you on everything, I thought I was good but when I begun learning seriously about drawing I saw I had a lot of flaws but I begun learning to use charcoal (highly recommended) and to see light and contrast. After a few months I improved A LOT. Then, when you change materials you'll feel like you're going backwards, but it's not true, it's just that different materials need different techniques. As Devin says, you won't get perfect overnight, but in a few months you'll notice a lot of improvement if you're constant. Thank you Devin for your art and your videos, I discovered you recently and I fell in love with your art instantly. I love the emotions and the story behind your drawings. They talk and you have lifted my motivation to get better at drawing.

I begun one year ago to post pictures of my drawings there and in summer I lost my motivation because simply "drawing things or animals" wasn't funny anymore but your drawings or paintings tell a story, and I'm committed now to try again to follow your path and tell stories with my drawings. Where can I learn more about stylization and exaggeration? I draw and paint really well but I don't really understand those two aspects of drawing.
If you practice drawing something from photo reference at the beginning (and mark on the page that these drawings are entirely referenced off existing images), then share that sketchbook page in a sketchbook tour type thing, is that plagiarism? Should I just get images from free stock photos, write the artist below the drawing/tag them if its an instagram post, or just not share that page at all?
