I started doing this recently as well when I was returning to anatomy studies and found myself not wanting to use graphite or charcoal but not wanting the unforgiving nature of jet black ink brushes, so I just started using a brush pen with dried up patches of gouache. Now I just do it on the regular, or over top of line. And it's a great way to get a lot more use out of dried up gouache that might not be ideal for something more serious but that would also be a waste to just wash off a palette and squeeze more from tubes just for the sake of some studies. Thick toned tan paper is probably my favorite thing to work on.

Great technique/process! i've had those water-brushes for years and hadn't found a good way to use them. Thank you for your video ❤ hehe couple of hours later i went and dug my water-brushes out and tried your technique. It worked better than i was expecting. I already fashioned a tiny kit out of a pill box with black and white quache and made a small sketchbook out of coloured paper. Thanks again.😄
