I finally figured out why barney's character irks me so much. Maybe it's not something even the writers ever really thought about. He is a fit, well-dressed, and gainfully employed guy, and he's written to be shallow and selfish. The writers sell the playboy thing with hot actresses. There's plenty of hot actresses to choose from. To the point that the background characters tend to be quite attractive. But because of that, the character and even the others don't see unattractive as even worthy of attention. Like basic respect isn't given. So it's like unattractive women dont even exist. Idk, maybe it is just me flagging myself unattractive. With anger that these fictional people wouldn't even make passing eye contact with me.
