Not quite accurate. Even as far back as I Edward longshanks who habitually spoke English, and English identity among the upper classes was formed/forming. i think its because if burgundy is the one that offered you a royal marriage and charles dies you lose the RM the tick before the burgundian inheritance triggers, so when the game is looking for royal marriages with burgundy it misses yours. the correct strat would be to offer burgundy a RM instead of the other way around

The English flag being the English coat of arms (as in the three golden lions on a red field) and the Angevin flag being the French fleur-de-lys quartered with the three English lions truly is the only thing that makes sense. That flag is literally the graphic representation of the Union of England and France. Removing the fleur-de-lys from the flag upon controlling France is insane. The choice by Paradox is the only sensible one and I’ll die on that hill.

Im guessing they had an average claim heir when charles died. If you get the heir just before charles dies there isnt enough time for the claim strength to tick down. so the inheritence never triggers. Funnily, happened to me when I was intentionally trying to trigger the inheritence on my burgundy run

Nah it makes sense the way the flags are right now. The "new" English flag has the Norman/English coat of arms, and the "old/Angevin" flag has that one AND the French coat of arms which makes sense since the Angevin Empire is basically a union between the English/Norman and French realms.

And i assume next is a frustrated Laith after save-scamming. About this DLC, anyway - played Imperator recently, with mod (Forgor name of a mod) - but am I the only one who notices that Pdx implements this cool stuff in their missions? Changing mission-tree like missions expanded or custom decisions from Imperator mods. Thats just awesome. Can't wait to see what they will do in EU4, And if they will get rid of mana.

Laith...it's not ONLY the angevan flag.. dukedom of Normandy's/ house of William the Conqueror's coat of arms had 2 lions(?), Dukedom of Aquitaine, had 1 of those lions...cats(?). House Plantagenent had 3 lions and house Lancaster adopted the red with 3 lions and some little blue stripes at the top with France's symbol/leaf. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Lancaster they aren't wrong, as you king at the start is a Lancaster.

When I tried roughly the same thing, I had a much bigger coalition form against me out of unioning france in the 100-years war and got melted. What's the key thing that made the coalition fizzle out before attacking in this game? I suspect I just needed to have more allies, I annoyed Castille and Burgundy by promising land and not giving them any, which caused them to break the alliance. I think it's that because I would've been a weaker target for the coalition. I guess next time I should make sure I give each of them a tile for their help.

You're actually wrong on the flag issue, though I do see where you're coming from. The 3 lions on a red background are the royal arms of the Plantagenet house and the royal arms of England for most of that dynasty's rule. The flag that has both royal arms quartered with each other was implemented by Edward III to symbolically reinforce his claim to the French throne and as such is more suited to be the Angevin flag than the Plantagenet royal arms by itself. It also would have likely stayed the flag of a re-established Angevin union had it happened in reality.

Since you can get the tag irregardless of admin tech, and then could annex and release as. Sure even with bonuses now possible ~50 years to integrate a high dev nation but still probably quicker? and as Italy you'd have no AE so.

Subjects will never get exploration ideas. I don't think it's even in the idea pool for them to be released with. As for forming Italy, that seems incredibly inefficient, right? Starting as England, stomping on France, and spending over half a century conquering Italy, another few decades diplo-annexing them, releasing as them and having to fight an independence war after another decade - it all seems like it'd take a lot less time to just start as Milan and do it yourself.

Still, somewhat interesting and I imagine you could get it quicker than the admin tech requirement, although I don't imagine by much. Optimised could probably have some potential for it I imagine.

I wish a lot of the "Give your monarch more points" were instead just like +1 mana for like 50 years. Makes more sense since most of the like stats of rulers are like how well they did historically so suddenly increasing it doesn't really make sense? I mean it does but if it were just how competent is the realm under their rule then most of the time players would end up with near max stats compared to like AI rulers. And also means you can better save it like if you wait for AE to die down and then do it, or when you are about to get an idea group or something.

I don't know why you think the flags should be swapped. During the time of the actual Angevin realm, when the royal symbol would have just been the three lions, the Kings of England weren't claiming to also be the kings of France, they were just very powerful in France. In eu4 though they are claiming to be the Kings of France. If anything the three lions alone should never be the flag of England because the English royal symbol was the quartered lions and fleur de lis since King Edward III pressed his claim to the throne of France in 1340

So when you start playing as Croatia you have 15 years to get your independence, after that you cannot ally, get in a defensive pact, and you cannot be under any kind of protection and you must rival these powers as soon as possible: Austria, Russia, Serbia, Montenegro, Ottomans, and all nations from the Italian boot. You also must embargo all those nations and cannot enter their custom union nor can they enter yours. You cannot be in an alliance with any of the top 10 nations, including a defensive pact custom union, or protectorate, but you can trade with them. AI must be put on the default settings in case it isn't. If you ally let's say Portugal, and later on they get into the top 10, you must break the alliance. You also must stay monarchy all the time. Form the Danubian state with Croatia following these rules. PUs in EU4 are the most opaque annoying thing to work with. It feels like a piece of CK without any of the family/marriage fine controls you get in CK... I've played 1200 hours and still don't understand how you're supposed to get one. I personally would've probably butted my head into the wall repeatedly trying to get it "legitimately" just because I wouldn't think of cheating it in 😅
