This is why you shouldn’t pay attention to randos on the internet. They put thoughts in your head that never would have bothered you otherwise, ruining your enjoyment of a perfectly good remaster. If they want to play with the old triangle-headed Raziel, they can, as far as I’m aware you can switch back to the old style graphics similar to the Halo: Combat Evolved remaster. We’ve lost nothing and have everything to gain. Plus, if the remaster sells well they’re more likely to green-light a sequel, just like Mass Effect Legendary edition did for that series. Discourse like this is counterintuitive and shortsighted.

What actually happened was I though to myself, ugh these character models look super cartoony... wtf and then the other person crystalized what I was already feeling and I borrowed their language. NO one is saying we want triangle head Raziel, what are you talking about? I actually originally played it on Dreamcast, so the character models were far superior than the triangle head situation. I don't like the models, I think they're oddly too bright and smooth. Don't take critique so poorly.

Sweethearts, in 1999, it was the height of technology. Nobody thought that. Now, it’s dated. You can’t enjoy those 1999 FMV cinematics now and complain that the remake is too cartoony. You do realise how ridiculous that sounds, right? It’s the same aesthetic as the rest of the game. Switch to the old style with the press of button, knock yourself out. But those FMV sequences will still be ‘cartoony’, and those have not changed. The colour palette of legacy of kain has always been bright jewelled colours, way before Fortnite. All you’re doing is complaining about a few extra polygons and smoother textures. “Waaaah, they made my game look better, how could they? I can change it back but I’m going to complain anyway” pffft 🙄

Despite some flaws, I still highly suggest buying this remaster when it releases. This is a series that needs to come back and have the story finished. And it will only happen if they see interest in the games and the best way to speak of that is with our wallets.

I dont think the art style of the remastered graphics look bad. Sound slike a nitpick to me. Not to mention you will likely be able to switch between the two graphics options like the Tomb Raider collection so it matters not. Plus I already own the entire series. I have access to all of the original games and the emulators. I just want to play it on my Switch rather than my phone

Not sure how I'd feel about that. There's a long rant here, but I'll shorten it down to 2 things. First, the guy who voiced the Elder God passed away; they could bring in someone to replace him, and I'm sure they'd do the voice fine... but, it wouldn't feed right. Second, we had another game, "Nosgoth", which I thought was decent for a live service thing, but it bombed only a couple months after release. There was also plans for a new series following a new guy, but it was scrapped for that previously mentioned game. I'm not sure it would have been fun though, as to me, the design on the protagonist was a bit too human and boring, even though it looked like they were sort of doing a soft reboot of Soul Reaver. At least, that's what the game mechanics suggested. If your interested, look up Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. There was a ton of gameplay for it, I think they were almost done making it, but it got canceled, for reasons I can't remember. Probably budgeting problems. I'm not sure Crystal Dynamics still even makes games?

In my room I have the original Fat PS2 connected to the CRT and I can have the original experience with Soul Reaver 1 and 2. I can also play on my PC on the emulator with update resolution and texture, I also have the PC version on Steam, but that's better to avoid bad controls, compatibility etc. Anyways I'm happy and looking forward to the remaster and I think I'll buy it as soon as it comes out overall I believe it will be the best versions of the games with 60fps and all the improvements and better controls. For me, the only downside is that Defiance is not included, it's a shame.

I cant confirm you can play this on the pcsx emulator. I use it to play god of war 2005 and nfs underground 2. I made a direct copy of soul reaver from my original disk and it did not work on the emulator. I dont know if i did something wrong or if my settings are not correct however at this moment i cannot agree it works correctly. God of war and underground 2 look fantastic after i bumped the visual settings up to max. I’ve been waiting for over 20 years for this. Actually though….the PC versions available at Gog are far superior to these emulated versions any day. The original has been delisted, but it still works wonderfully with Wrace’s patch. I find nothing wrong with the new graphics. They seem to be based off the cut scenes and action figures from the early 2000s. I think it matches the original intent that was missing from the original SR.

Does anybody know if the camera movement will be updated? I beat soul reaver again earlier this year and it was an adjustment trying to go back to that old camera style. Hopefully it can be fixed with the remaster.

I'm going to buy the remasters, but I'm not a big fan of the visuals. I wouldn't say it's Saturday morning cartoony. To me, it's more like painted tabletop miniatures. Everything is too clean, the dark, dirty, grit is gone.
