I just tried Zomboid on the Steam Deck. I was pleasantly surprised at how competent the gamepad controls were! And on the deck there's the added benefit of mapping additional actions to the back buttons, or even on screen touch buttons.

@@ggrogan I really don't know how it works on ROG, but on Steam Deck it's as simple ad navigating to the Steam Input menu and editing the control scheme and just choosing what buttons the back buttons represent (same for virtual on screen menus).

PC does get a radial menu for weapons, you just have to hold the number the slot is in and it shows a menu for every item in your inventory (specifically inventory, you have to take items out of your bag for it to work) that can go into that slot. for example guns and long blunt weapons can be selected if you hold 1 for the back slot, but you hold 2 and 3 for items that go onto your belt holding f also shows a radial menu for flashlights and lighters

One thing I always do when playing on a controller is clicking (with a mouse) twice on the Category filter in my inventory. At least for me it makes the sorting better, as usually items in your main inventory will be nearer the top, and therefore faster to navigate to with a controller. I agree that the tv/radio menu is bad, but have you tried doing farming with a controller? For some reason that interface is just awful - you have to press a button several times to even see info on plants, and keep doing that for each plant you want to check. It almost feels like a middle finger to farmers who play with a controller, it's just the worst design. Also the vehicle menu is kinda bad, because unlike on k+m, you can't drop items while the vehicle menu is open (those tyres are heavy). Otherwise using a controller for a game this complex is surprisingly smooth.

R3 doesn't do anything to my knowledge. Pressing Left ALT on the keyboard would be the only reason I can think of why your character would attack the ground, too.

I'm coming from a PlayStation world so when I started playing Zomboid I found keyboard controls were too hard. I found using a controller was significantly easier, especially when it comes to aiming weapons. Plus no longer have to be afraid of hitting the dreaded "q" button

I haven't had troubles at all across multiple controllers. Might be a hardware issue, or connection issue if you're on wireless.

I play Zomboid on my steam deck and I have to say it’s quite an amazing experience. If you get the controls dialed in right and utilize the advantage of the track pads (I personally use my right one as a mouse with the right click action when pressed and my left one as a scroll wheel with the left click as the press action), then utilize the back buttons to have 4 extra controls that you can set to whatever you want (I use them for mod actions like quick swap), you can get such a solid hybrid experience and it feels really great. Honestly I thought about using keyboard and mouse but having this experience has made me feel like I’d be missing out. Funny cuz your coming at your audience from a keyboard and mouse only perspective and I’m coming from a controller only perspective haha

It's not an easy game, I consider it the game a lot of experience gamers end up at after they got bored of whatever game they were experienced at. The main tips I can give is avoid large crowds, if around a large crowd walk in one direction until they lose sight and smell.

You need to have it in your main inventory. When in the TV settings press R1 (RB). Then go down to the insert tape button, press R1 again and it should show a small menu with the tapes you have. I hope I remembered correctly, I'll check tomorrow and come back. 😊

The UI in PZ is absolutely awful. I'm shocked a 15yr old game with plenty of financial support, still feels like an early alpha. UI scaling is terrible, the main menu is terrible, the TV thingy is unacceptably terrible, the equipment and status inventory is terrible. I bought this game 2 years ago and still couldn't have fun with it, because basic stuff like these and the controls are just too cumbersome and it feels like the game is resisting against me.

Unfortunately Xbox controller does not work, triggers are not detected and the info inside . Doc are false and misleading and no one has ever found the solution. RIP CONTROLLERS ON PZ and goodbye to the game

@@vivithedrawn Unfortunately, certain types of gamepads such as the Elite that is detected in the test as Xinput GLFW by mixing the zoom button into the same action button making it unplayable. Requested the refund due to the impossibility of solving the problem by the support itself. unlucky

I am having the same issue as the guy above. The Xbox controller, for the most part, works just fine! But the right trigger is not responding when I want to attack. (The character doesn't swing their weapon and just stands there-) I also looked for any forum that had a solution but there doesn't seem to be one, or at least a way to adjust it.

You can not be walking while browsing the inventory menu while being chased by zombies to move some spears from back pack to main inventory with controllers.. 😂 i love the experience but. Rather play on keyboard and mouse
