Folkston, Georgia is known as a railfan's paradise. Here, you can watch train after train go by. But, if you want the full Folkston experience, stay the night in this historic caboose. It should be on every railfan's bucket list!

We stayed in the Lodge right there at that same site next to the caboose. We were there in February and just passing through and called the number. They had an opening that night so we got lucky and watched trains from the back porch of the house and sat on the porch swing in the back near the tracks. The house is awesome and it has bunk beds and everything that a house would have. Trains ran about every hour all night until morning. There was a slow stretch from morning until about 2pm. I put in the guest book how many trains we saw and for how many hours we were there.

My wife and I did this in Strasburg, PA and it was great fun. The Strasburg Railroad went right by our caboose. It was January and bitterly cold but we still had a great time.

Great video. Folkston is jut an hour and 15 minutes from Jacksonville and Folkston has some great memories for me as I have lived in Northeast Florida for 69 years.

I’ve stayed in a caboose before at the wild life prairie park near East Peoria, IL! Very fun experience considering it was about a mile away from an active BNSF mainline and the cabooses were also ex Santa Fe ones still with their ATSF logos and reporting marks!

Another great video - as always. When you get down to see the Water Tower I told you about, there are some older passenger cars at the nearby depot. The Pine Mountain / Harris County, GA, Historical Society has there headquarters in an old COG Caboose.

If you think this is impressive, go visit the Issac Walton Inn at Essex, Montana. There is a main lodge with normal hotel rooms. On the outside, is a ton of cabooses converted to hotel rooms. The best thing of all, a real Ex-ATSF F45 locomotive turned into a hotel room. A real locomotive. All of this, and more, right next to the extremely busy BNSF high line subdivision. There is also an Amtrak station. This caboose is nearly nothing compared to this Inn.

They do, but they're not really as good as the ones in Folkston. Also, there's not much activity on the A-Line or SC-Line here.

I honestly do not give the caboose a 5 star rating. The water was not too clean and did not taste good. The curtains constantly fell off, and it was not easy to see trains at night due to lack of light. But it was a fun experience.

Traveled down early one morning to experience the constant passing of trains . Unfortunately, the 1st train that we were viewing heading South, came to a stop . A female took her own life by stepping in front of the passing train . This stopped all train traffic for most of the day . It was a sad day for the loss of a life & for the crew, & the responders that had to witness the incident . 😢 I hope to revisit in the near future !
