The thing about using the Domain account method is that it never prompts you to log into a domain. It basically just lets you create a local account, and you're done.

I was curious about this so I just set up a Win11 VM in VirtualBox and tried setting up as work/school (domain) and it seemed trivially easy. I can't see a down side, unless it doesn't work with Win11 Home. I set the VM up as Win11 Pro. I didn't document what I did, but I think I just clicked past the email prompt and it asked "Who will be using this machine?" which set up a local administrator account.

@@dingokidneys Well, their folder icons suck. In Windows 7 and 10 the folders were vertical so you could see better what is inside. I have 5,000+ photos and with these new folders, it takes me at least 3 times longer to find the photo I want. I only see 1 photo, whereas before it was 2 or more. That was a lot easier than trying to remember the dates. These so-called upgrades from my point of view are "downgrades". They could have kept the Windows 7 "look" while beefing up security. They had a good an easy to navigate operating system and it's been gradually "downgraded" ever since in my opinion.

It’s about time American and/or European commissions start looking into these practices, and ban them. Your officially buy a product of them, and then they push you into a corner, so that they can force you to accept a heap of shit you never asked for. This starts smelling very fishy and is looking more and more like blackmailing. This is what gets me very angry. If it would be possible, I would never ever use any of their products again. Unfortunately, I professionally am bound to a bunch of tools that only run on windows, so there‘s no real alternative. I don’t want their shit, I just „want“ their OS, and but only because other companies force me to use that. That being already bad enough, there’s no need to add injury to insult.

Bypassnro DOES work. What they did is make an additional check to see if you have internet connectivity and if it detects internet it ignores the bypass you enabled. So all you need to do is after doing bypassnro, unplug the internet or as soon as the OOBE comes back up release the IP before you continue and then the bypassnro will work. Lets remember.... bypassnro is a batch file included by MS on the official MS media. If they wanted to stop people using it, they would remove it. Also they did not add registry entries to prevent bypassnro working. Those entries are standard and part of the OOBE. I just did the leg work to figure out how to manually get up and running in case MS ever do remove their bypassnro that they chose to put in. That bypassnro was not already put in, that gets put in by the bypassnro.cmd file you ran... Type the following at that point type oobe\bypassnro.cmd and you will see the contents of the file. It adds that registry entry and reboots the system...

Anyway, all I did was create a MS account that I had no intention of ever using, Finish the installation, created a local user account with Admin status, then I simply set the sign-into-Windows option to sign-in using the newly-created local user account, then deleted the MS account, accepting the MS dire-warnings about how horrific my life would then be, and how much I would lose (I had no files in this account, just the obligatory and accursed 'OneDrive' rubbish). Your MS account will hold the encryption key to unlock your drive. MS doesn't tell you that you will need that but you will need to find that and back it up. Them you can create a local account and log in with that. You can then remove the MS account. If your drive is still encrypted you can use the key to access it. I can't specify if it remains locked or not but I would imagine so. Keep a separate data drive and only plug it in once everything is set up.

Ehhh, you say you don't understand why they try and force you to use a MS account? Well that's simple, this makes it even easier for them to track whatever you do on "your" computer. Remember some countries have quite strict laws against tracking, even the EU have made some moves, but the moment you log-in to a service they can track whatever they want as you then accept whatever terms of service is included. They can then use that data to show you adds (that's basically how Google and Facebook have been printing money for years) or they can use all the information they can grab to help train their AI-systems...

I just installed Windows 11 (23H2) on two HP laptops and was NOT asked to create a Microsoft account (maybe this is just available in Australia?). The problem for Microsoft is that their users have lost confidence in them. Windows 11 installs are now actually declining. If you are using MS in a business environment (small or large) the last thing you need is another thing to worry about i.e., privacy. Having been a windows user for 30 years, even I'm planning migrating to Linux - it the "rusted-ons" are leaving - MS have a problem.

Dear Brian, For your information: you sound like release command would work even without bypassnro command. This is not necessarily the case. You still have to use bypassnro command, but after this you have to use the ipconfig's release command later on, as soon as you are at login of MS account again. Plz set VMware and make the 1st snapshot while you are at the login to MS account (while you didn't make anything yet). The 2nd snapshot is when you are at MS account, (while done the bypassnro). Now you need just revert to the 1st one, and do the release command, it won't work further. Revert to the 2nd snapshot, and since bypassnro is already done you need to do the release command. That's it. The method does work for 23H2/24H2.

IP release worked well for me thank you very much

Thanks - worked for me (just about!) though the said 'back arrow' at the top of the screen has apparently been removed (June 28 2024) for 23H2, as well. However, I was still able to insert a name for the PC User and make a Local Account - though I don't actually know WHY it worked. 😎

what is the difference between your method, and not having the network lead plugged in?

Thanks for the detailed understanding of the problem and the thorough explanation.

This method is fine if you have a current Windows 11 USB already created - because you don't connect to the network until AFTER the bypass is done, this method cannot be stopped. Future downloaded versions of the installer may cut out the bypass, but thats future media. So get it now peoples!

Never thought of that tbh. Luckily, I have both Win10 and a pretty early copy of Win11 on my Ventoy drive.

I didn't finish video, but after I added registry key about bypassnro then it worked with 24H2 on my VM. I clicked back on sign-in page, then disconnected internet and after clicking next it automatically allowed to make local account.

What could possibly be a valid reason for requiring a new pc to be connected to a network before you'll be allowed to set it up? If people want to opt in to this nonsense that is fine but I flatly refuse the notion that I should be forced to do so or that there is any benefit for me in the process. It also irks me that even the "pro" versions are subjected to this. I really wish we had a solid OS alternative out there. Win 11 is crap, win 10 is 75% crap and Linux is simply crap of varying degrees.

why the long drawn out procedure on what not to do, very confusing?

it didnt work for me. when I go back after releasing IP i end up on a screen that says whoops you have disconnected from from the internet and I end back at the network connection screen.

Hey! one question... can this also work for the loop in ? "checking the connection to microsoft. this might take a while windows 10" I can't pass this it keeps telling me "looks like something happened. lets try reconnecting"

This is probably a dumb question, but why not just let Windows have an MS account that you create when installing and then create and use a separate local account after the installation is done? Never use the MS Account again.
@teknixstuff6 ай бұрын
Because they make that a pain.
@dtone16 ай бұрын
@@teknixstuff I think that it is less of a pain than these bypass methods that are gradually being closed down. Seriously, I thought that maybe having any sort of MS account on Windows 11 might cause privacy concerns even if you are using a separate local account all of the time. I don't see how this is the case but maybe somebody else has some inside knowledge - maybe by tracking internet activity when using a local account vs. an MS account?

Made my Local account by disconnecting internet completely during the process. Yes the OOBE command did not work.

I doubt they ever block that method. Not everyone has internet. It would cause a huge lawsuit for sure.

My laptop is jus stuck on the network screen I can’t go back to the “personal account” option
@MoreBollocks-ui2zs5 ай бұрын
Step 1: Make as many windows users as possible use MS accounts. Step 2: capture screenshots every few seconds to ensure you have every action performed by these users. Step 3: Sell targeted ads...based on more access than anyone else has managed to date.

Can you take down the old video then? None of the methods in that video work for the Home version
