I hope they do something with the copy machine. Where once powered on instead of standing in place and copying the player it has a similar AI to the octoling enemies in story mode , just slightly better and with the objectives of killing the player, avoiding being splatted and inking surfaces. It's easy to have a false sense of aim skill given to you by the training room. I remember the first times going into the training room with goo tuber, tri stringer, splatanas, etc, hitting the one shots consistently against all the targets, think "oh, I'm damn good with this weapon", then go into an actual match and getting absolutely shat on because all of a sudden what I'm aiming at is moving around, impending my own movement, threatening to kill me, and I couldn't react in time to hit my one shots before they killed me.
@Driftwood-ML11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how much of a difference this makes practically but I think it's also worth noting that the training targets are significantly larger than actual inklinks/octolings (have your character stand right next to one to see the difference). I image that it can make it easier to misjudge distance in an actual match (though at least it would make you overestimate your distance at least).

Regarding that last point, looking at the Splattershot in particular, provided you remain grounded, its first three shots only have a 1% chance of going wide enough to miss the center of the reticule, while anything after that gets increasingly less accurate rather quickly. Landing the first shots also means not having to fire even more extra shots because you randomly missed. I've noticed a common trend when talking about movement is that virtually all discussion of techniques assumes the player has a shooter that can just shoot its feet at will. I've seen almost no discussion of how other weapons should deal with that situation. This has been a point of frustration when I'm, for example, playing Ballpoint or Stamper and get my feet inked by an inkjet indirect, and need to be able to move before another shot is fired.

I've found it's mostly better to just stay out of those situations the best I can and play further back behind cover, or to go in with one of my teammates.

This explains _so_ much. For what it's worth, the moving targets did at least teach me positioning, if not how to aim at a realistic target - attacking is usually when a target moves slowest or their speed is most predictable, so pick moments like that to engage and force them to pick between two bad choices: engage you at a disadvantage where they will at best trade, or retreat under fire, where their survival is not guaranteed and/or they concede the ground anyway.

Using the splatana, I put a piece of paper on the screen and then try and track my target with the audio cue and the little motion I can see. There's nothing better when that pays off when you splat someone through a booya bomb. If your team member is going to blind you, you might as well use it to your advantage.

They need to give us more official tools especially in recon. They can let us record inputs in recon and let a dummy copy it. This will help players learn how to place shots and fight around cover for any weapon. Also recon could let us switch weapons and gear mid recon. Would be bug help imo

You also don't have to deal with distractions. There's so much going on in a real match that isn't there in the lobby. Enemy ink isn't just physical impedance - it's brightly coloured enough to strain your eyes a bit more, and opponents are harder to see against it compared to the high-contrast target dummies. UI elements, splashes of ink, stray shots, explosions and other sub/special visual effects, your own allies... all that can impede your vision in a real fight, and even a little bit of it, even momentarily, can impact your aim a surprising amount.
@giganticmoon11 ай бұрын
If they had AI that’s at your level for practice, that would help. How would it work? You have robots right? They can act like the targets here, moving, or still, but you can turn it on, and it can either go on easy, advanced, or adjust (either your skill level or you can change it’s settings.) Make sure to save the settings if you want to keep it.

another thing to mention is that outside of the copy machine, all the dummies are fatter than players. if you have a good feel for the dummies you´ll notice the thinness of the copy machine quickly in comparison, as it matches the actual standing hitbox of a player.
@SquidSchool10 ай бұрын
I've looked into this with the help of a dataminer, and they tell me that the parameters for the hitboxes of players and target dummies are exactly the same at least for the purposes of being shot at. Their collision with other objects in the room is different, but that's not what's relevant here.
@sey_8110 ай бұрын
@@SquidSchool what are the numbers they gave you? what I got told was the cylinder part is 0.95 high and the caps (and cylinder radius) is 0.35 cylinder is offset 0.35 from the ground (meaning the bottom of the capsule is exactly at floor height) going by splatoon 3s distance units, where 5.0 is the distance between lines in the lobby there´s also the fact that squid form is fatter for sure, and the numbers I was told about are for human form standing/firing. I could imagine the squid form matching the dummies I guess maybe?

I've been trying to take into account 'first shots' in the training room when I bother not trying to play simon says between matches. Know how many shots it takes to splat, you get that many shots per target (+1 if you want to be generous). Bonus points if you keep yourself moving/jumping to simulate actually being in a 1v1. It becomes a lot harder to land those shots. . .especially with jump RNG taken into consideration.
@HK_on_YT11 ай бұрын
The biggest difference that you did not mention is simply lag even if you have the best internet connection in the world because it can be (and often is) affected by other players' latency. I've had fights using Squeezer where I hit a non-moving opponent 6 times (confirmed visually and auditively), which would have splatted them twice, but they were still not splatted. Or I was splatted by a player two seconds after having splatted them using the Nautilus 47 without me having been hit (visually or auditively) during the fight and then seeing in the post-splat cam that I was apparently splat by a ghost.

Would it be a good habit to form to immediately main strafe or sub strafe when you miss a shot in the training room? Like rather than correcting aim from the same spot to try to pop the target dummy, immediately dip into the ink and strafe and either target a different dummy or target the same dummy from a different angle? . Obviously, the best practice is to get into matches and try, but still, I'd like to try to form good habits and muscle memories while waiting for matchmaking to determine my fate. ;)
@sw0rdbyte11 ай бұрын
personally, i think dipping into the ink and strafing is good practice instead of just shooting from the same spot. against better players who may or may not have good aim, main strafing is too obvious of a move, so doing a little swim left or right (being unpredictable) to get into a better position after missing a shot will secure a kill. that's my thoughts on it!
