Beautiful, stunning piece-of-art bass. I have a Dingwall AB1 Fretless since 2002, it sounds amazing, and I have no issue playing and recording with it. You just have to put the time in to ensure your intonation is spot on, other than that, its a multiscale, so you know where your fingers go. I thought Phillip did a great job playing it

Relax, folks! No big deal - there are side dots as on any unlined fretless, and then some thoughtfully placed dots of the far edge of the fingerboard. Just join the dots in your mind and you have your fretline. Well done to this luthier and to Phil the player who sounded more in tune than almost all fretless videos I have seen.
@davidwalters9339Күн бұрын
I would agree with you if it wasn’t a fanned neck. Look at the frets on the one they show at the 2:09 mark. See how some of them are angled? You can’t use the dots as the exact center of the fret for each string because of this.
@datsch_15 сағат бұрын
@ You use the two dots - they are are offset - and that gives you the angled fretline you need. In the attached photo. The pictures are clearer at the meta website.

Gregor I'm not sure the scale lengths for the new Sire, but the boys might want to practice on this thing because I think Sire unveiled a headless, fretless multi-scale 6 string at NAMM, it is lined though! I think the bass looks sweet but ngl it kind of makes me mad they made this a multi-scale but didn't put 35" scale or more on the B string lol. Like this is very specific to someone else spec because you don't even get the real benefit of the nicer B string you normally get on a multiscale. it is probably quite expensive and then I would have to really spend time practicing for muscle memory on it that feels like kind of a waste when I don't have to do that on any other bass unless adding a string, which at lesat gives you some tonal advantages which this bass gives none of.

Looking at this bass, I cannot help but wonder what the real value added is compared to far more affordable and equally good instruments. Sure, the construction seems polished, and the choice of a variable scale may make sense in certain contexts, but who is such an item really intended for? At a base price of 5,000 euros, one would expect a distinct leap in quality over lower-end basses, but the reality is that this setup offers nothing essential that cannot be achieved with much cheaper instruments. The improved ergonomics are questionable, the timbre is not significantly different from far more affordable alternatives, and the whole multiscale philosophy seems more like an exercise in style than a real necessity for the average musician. It almost seems as if the price is justified more by the desire to show off a “niche” instrument than by any real improvement in terms of playability and sonic performance. Why spend such an inordinate amount of money when there are more sensible, practical and affordable options? There remains fascination for those who collect or want something exclusive, but if the goal is to play, the cost-benefit ratio simply does not hold up.

@@basstheworldofficial Dear Gregor, I like to express some thoughts about the climate that is perceived whenever a different opinion is shared than the content proposed in the videos. I have noticed that when someone expresses a dissenting opinion or raises a critical point of view, an atmosphere of veiled controversy is created that makes it difficult to have a calm and constructive discussion. In this regard, I would like to share my thoughts about the submitted electric bass. Undoubtedly, it is a real gem from a design point of view: the attention to detail, the refined aesthetics and the originality of the shape make it a fascinating piece. However, from a practical point of view, I find that its ergonomics leave something to be desired. The conformation of the body imposes a posture that is unnatural and uncomfortable during execution, limiting freedom of movement and forcing a stance that could prove tiring in the long run. I emphasize that my intent is not to generate controversy, but simply to express a personal point of view, with the hope that we can discuss in an open and respectful manner. I believe that confrontation between differing opinions is a growing element for everyone and can enrich the discussion rather than exacerbate it. Therefore, I wonder whether this is an intended effect or simply a spontaneous reaction of the comm
