this is one of the best intros to a movie. Also, Fellowship of the Ring. Best opening credits? Watchmen. all epic af, and I know I'm missing at least one other great one. also return of the king, as the logo comes in. also goblet of fire and spiderman 2000.

At the end of the movie, the gates transition once again. The end credits finish off by turning into that retro vibe.

This opening is so beautiful and that melancholy tone fits so perfect with it. It gives you a feeling of good memories of the past you had but now your life is so dull and filled with sadness or grey areas.

The opening scene of the movie symbolises the whole story of Gatsby’s life and dream Jazz music foreshadows to Jazz age - the time of recklessly opulent and lavish lifestyles Life lived, in fear is a life, half lived - foreshadows moral decline an itch for money, desire to take pleasure in squander and wickedness - determining qualities of the Jazz Age. The gold medal represents Gatsby after he passed through the wartime; The change of grey to gold & passing through golden gates symbolises Gatsby’s achievement of wealth and status and building up the illusionary image, while being stained by money earned through criminal activity and by corrupted upper class society As the medal bears towards the darkness this symbolises how Gatsby, enchanted by Daisy rushed towards her; and when the medal disappears in the glowing green light, this stands for Gatsby losing himself in this rush after his dream - shows the emptiness inside his dream The green light was just an illusion, that charmed him, but eventually cheated on him and demolished him.

its like we're opening and dusting off an old forgotten story. we can see how old it is. that its been neglected, and we know nothing other than how long ago it happened. suddenly, the doorknob appears. and the camera stills. we see something that is familiar to those forgotten souls. we don't know this yet, but it is not a movie logo. it intrigues us. it warms the old heart of our long forgotten narrator and his friend, their spirits still live in this tale. and as they wake up, the gold comes back, and the doorknob beckons us to enter their world. (edit: i also noticed that while everything turns gold, the doorknob stays black & white, and becomes the green light. maybe symbolizing gatsby himself completing the doomed cycle of an unattainable dream leading to his demise, and that he could only reach that light as a distant memory, to us, the audience)

Wow, the opening scene is just perfekt. I like this sad Musik at the beginning. It is as sad as the Story about gatsbys dream "that is already behind him".

I really think some of the music was really honestly out of place for the time period the movie depicted I would have appreciated the movie just using old classic 20s music updated instead of using modern music that are both depicted as 20s music and in modern day format
@OrionCinemas10 жыл бұрын
why is this opening so strong and so promising but the rest so disappointing. Aside from a few great scenes, the movie just loses the tone it set at the top. I thought i was watching an award contender until i saw how cheesy some of the party scenes were and how bland the introduction to east and west egg was. I had my hopes high for this one, and i think it could have been better.
@GeorgeNCy9 жыл бұрын
It couldnt be better only if they added the cut scene where gatsbys dad visits him at his funeral.@
