Comparing Gears to Killzone is WAY off. The better comparison is actually Uncharted. Both franchises have sold roughly 41 million copies of their games, and have around the same amount of mainline entries.

@@Pswayze23 Thats a highly subjective claim that could also easily be reversed. Uncharted's gameplay could easily become stale for many after multiple games. You reference Gears having a lot of stop and pop gameplay, which is true, but Uncharted (especially the early entries) constantly takes you from shooting gallery to shooting gallery. Both feel extremely dated from a modern perspective, but each series has its fans who don't mind it. And when it comes to characters and story, many feel the exact same way as you do about Uncharted, but with Gears instead. If you don't believe me then just read the comments on the new Gears of War: E-Day trailer. Both are great but aren't going to appeal to everybody, and it sounds like Gears just doesn't appeal to you.

I concur on Uncharted's gameplay is also stale for anyone who agrees. It plays like a PS3 linear action adventure. All the way up to 2017 with Lost Legacy. It has aged, poorly.

Well he has a point. People used to play in the stuff seeping out of the ground. Was it dangerous then? I have to assume so, but ultimately the places where crude oil seeped up from the ground weren't barren wastelands. We definitely over stated any issues oil slicks cause to the environment at large. We act as if a floating puddle of oil several hundred acres in area will destroy all wildlife that is unfortunate enough to lays eyes on it. That just doesn't happen... ever.

IGN doesn't need access. No one does. Imagine a world where journalists are denied access and game sales suffer? All of a sudden, some publishers will start recognizing they need them to expand to wider audiences. Access not needed but granted anyway, and these journos wouldn't have to kiss up, and people would be less inclined to dismiss their reviews. If only IGN and other online reviewers were reputable at this point. Game journos kiss up to not lose access because they're spineless and want to give opinions that please those in management at a company they don't even work for. It's pathetic.

@@Tatman2TheResQ That's not how it used to work, and it's not how it should today. Journalists used to be able to ask, and publishers and developers were more than willing to provide. Even now, publishers and developers can say no, and they often do, clearly. You don't think they asked Ubisoft about the development of the latest Assassin's Creed or Square Enix about the hold-up on some of their games in the light of restructuring? Why wouldn't they? They do ask, they always ask; they always deal with restrictions, and now they act like if they don't tow a specific line, they'll never be heard from again when the reality is that as we've seen from history gamers have really short memories and lose faith because of bad software and more rarely gain faith because of one piece of good news. IGN and other journalists don't need to kiss up to publishers or developers. They're not in that type of relationship, and they never used to be; if they are now, it's because they put themselves there through their actions over the past decade.

I typically enjoy Sacred Symbols but it’s become clear Colin has been affected by Xbox fanboys to the point where it’s hurting his analysis (he feels the need to try and trigger them and “war” with them). I haven't been wowed by the playstation 5 since Returnal. Spiderman 2 was good but it's clear that Insomniac had to make a filler game. They can't use all their ideas when the game takes place in the same location. Perfect Dark looks like the most interesting game this gen. Even Gears of War. Sony have to bring it for their September showcase because I am struggling to see their vision.

Enjoyed the long ass show, but I will say a lot of the xbox talk is filled with just lack of knowledge of the brand and strategy. This is why I think Colin's whole idea of only playing on playstation and focusing on playstation related things does cause issues with when you do speak on Xbox or other platforms you that you know close to nothing about. I'm not really trying to argue about the points you make, more so just about the many aspects that it's clear you don't know much about. I don't think anyone is expecting you to know everything about everything in the games industry but I mean... playstation gives us such little updates on things, that I feel like it wouldn't be difficult to know a little more about the topics relating to xbox without compromising your professional know how with playstation. It's like night and day compared to Defining Dukes coverage. Even if you you were able to 1/5 of what they do, that would be a sizable difference. All I'm trying to say I guess is a little more research or understanding would be appreciated with peace and love. Overall I still enjoyed the conversations and love you all, I hope this doesn't get too much hate, as someone who is similar to Dustin, I play on everything

Colin is right. Most game studios are not going to survive in the AAA space. There are too many games and there isn’t enough players to go around. Most hardcore gamers don’t realize the average consumer only plays a few games for year. Either due to not having enough time to play them, or due to rising costs. Game devs need to start refocusing their budgets and make smaller games. More importantly make games that are unique and create their own niche. Because even if these games don’t sell millions they only need to sell a few thousand to be profitable. And if the game ends up being a break out hit then all the better. But we don’t need 100 AAA titles with over stuff budgets. It will just lead to more layoffs and closed studios. A good example of this is Tango Works. Hi-Fi Rush was unique and sold enough to be profitable. If the studio had been independent then it would have been a massive success story. But because it was a AAA studio that had insane marketing budget’s ballooned costs - it wasn’t making enough to be worth it for Microsoft. But if they had released that game on their own then it would have made all its money back and kept the lights on.

Context matters. The point Colin is making is that Xbox hasn’t been delivering on all these big announcements. Every other year they reveal this “‘massive game changer decision” only for the results to be lackluster or middling at best. For instance Xbox fans and Microsoft swore up and down that them buying multiple studios would lead to PlayStation and Nintendo being knocked off their winning streak. Instead we got a string of mostly mediocre games and Microsoft having to close down one of the only studios that was producing great titles (Tango Works). Now Microsoft and fans are saying this incredible showcase will change everything. That Microsoft has finally done it and found the path to success. Colin is right none of this matters. Until we see a wave of critically acclaimed and commercially successful games out of Xbox - no amount of corporate marketing hype is worth freaking out about. Also Colin has said this about PlayStation in the past as well. He’s not just picking on Microsoft. In fact he hasn’t been the biggest fan of how Sony has been handling PlayStation in the last 3 years and desperately wanted Xbox to become a serious challenger so they get their act together. But so far that hasn’t happened.

Yeah, that was me. I also gave the last SoP an F, but you ignored that. Funny how that works. This Xbox presser was mid. Most games are not coming this year or even next year and of the ones set to release this year the only one that looks like it's mainstream is Stalker 2. I didn't mention Indiana Jones because that doesn't have a date yet, Xbox just keeps saying 'this year.' Beyond that, there's MSFS which no one is even talking about (much hype there) Age of Mythology (a 20 year old game with new visuals in a genre that generally doesn't perform well sales wise on console - the real reason RTS games aren't on consoles), another CoD and Avowed (which most have stopped talking about showcasing how mid that game looks). Everyone is talking about the games like Expedition 33 (which no one knows anything about), Perfect Dark (which looks fine despite probably not being genuine gameplay; I suspect CGI made to look like gameplay), and of course Gears of War: E-day which was neither gameplay nor had a release window not even an expected year of release. This is yet another hurry-up and wait presser, but somehow, it's different and so much better? Explain why.

You might have also noticed 3rd party and non-Xbox exclusives were not mentioned. Most of the showcase covered games going to PS (some might go to Switch too and I'm still ignoring PC, mostly, but I'll touch on that). Also, I remember people being upset and acting like PS is dead because a PC port of an existing PS5 game was shown. Meanwhile WoW's PC exclusive DLC being shown in the Xbox presser garnered absolutely zero fuss. Imagine that. It's also funny how the most recent SoP was bashed for not showing VR games when the prior SoP focused on VR games. "Gamers" making comments here obviously have their priorities all messed up. But I don't think they're even genuine gamers.

Dawn is a great cleaner for everything, I use a combination of a tablespoon of that, a shot glass of Vinegar, and water in a spray bottle and use that as a universal cleaner. smell dissipates quickly and it's a great way to clean the bathroom.
