Fun fact: you can do this without putting scent on it! I could hide my black Lab's toy, just pick one, show it to him, and then hide it. He would bypass all the other toys in the house in search of the one I had hidden. Then, switch and show him a different one and hide that. They love it!

To make it harder you shouldn't drop the scent on the toy. Drop it on a paper towel or a piece of cloth and then rubb it on the toy. In a larger field you can drag it along the ground an hour or two before you release the dogs, then they'll really have to put their noses to the test.
