The DTS is your best bet. They fixed the Northstar head bolts by 2005 and it by far will be the cheapest. The Maserati is pretty though. She'll give no end of expensive headaches when something breaks. I've heard the the transverse mounted, FWD Northstars are more problem prone than their longitudinal, RWD counterparts. That check engine could just be plugs or coils though. The later models really aren't bad engines at all.

Mercedes was due for a water pump. Sounded like it. That also meant timing chain as well. Too bad the Maserati has too much Stellantis parts bin components in it. Otherwise I would consider them. You can't go wrong with a Cadillac of that era. Pretty stout for the model year.

I’d buy the Maserati too, buying with your heart, it’s the only option, but being sensible the Cadillac is probably the safe bet.

The engine in the DTS was fixed in 2008 I believe. Before then you are headed for head gasket/head bolt issues.

No it was 05 and up that had the redesigned head bolts and the issue was gone after that..

That DTS is in great shape!:).. We got a 2011 a few months ago and it’s a dream, last of the old school luxury cars without too much complexity and they corrected the head bolts after 05, the c class isn’t even in the same turf in the luxury world and out of the 3 this will outlive them both.. Lol. Being this was based heavily on the last Deville generation the w220 S would be in the same category, I love those too! Lol

The mazaradi, would be much more fun to drive, and and the money to maintain. The Is Cadillac would be the most comfortable to take on a road trip. The Mercedes, would probably be the biggest headache.

That’s a very controversial comment a Maserati more reliable than a Benz. You are right Mercedes build quality has dropped dramatically since mid 90s and they have lots of issues, but if you said that in the mid 80s early 90s I would of laughed.

The DTS is your best bet. When taken care of, the DTS will run forever. Not into the Mercedes or the Maserati, though. I think by 07, they fixed the issues with the NorthStar. Thanks for the video, Mike.

They did fix the issue with the head bolts in 2005, however those engines leak oil pretty bad. I would still stay away from all three.

The Caddy for me. I say the caddy might go for 1700 dollars or less the Mercedes about 3000 dollars since its the newest and the Maserati Ghibli might go for a much as 10 grand or more.

It’s the same in the UK not many garages will touch it, I’m lucky and have an Italian specialist near me that will and they don’t overcharge, the problem is they have to deal with Italy for support, a lot of the time it takes time to get parts. I owned an Alfa 147 GTA 3.2 v6 and took it there for everything.

American cars just don’t hit the spot when it comes to prestige, probably the cheapest to run though. Mercedes build quality dropped dramatically when they face lifted the w124 in the mid 90s then it’s been down hill ever since. Mercedes have loads of issues nowadays so does the Maserati but the Maserati is a much nicer car to own, expensive to maintain but definitely the one I would choose. If your being sensible, buy the Cadillac, but if your a petrol head and buying with your heart the Maserati all day long.
