I hope you're keeping some sort of list of the people who are clearly being paid off to ball wash games like this and slowly erode VR. It will probably come in handy someday. The main issue with the combat is that they should have had little to none. like Mirrors Edge. You aren't supposed to fight, you're supposed to run. You should be fragile and weak. The main issue with the parkour is that it lacks weight, momentum, and ironically enough, movement.

I've genuinely seen better parkour combat in a map/mod for pavlov. It was a grappling hook mod on a map "designed" for it. It was extremely bare bones, but it was fun as proof of concept, and honestly, it was some of the most fun I've had on that game. Shout out if you know.

Idk how games make the fatal mistake of putting gun combat in games where parkour is the primary focus of the game. Mirrors Edge’s sequel was generally received negatively but one of the parts of the game people still praised was their removal of gun combat and focus on melee attacks. If your game’s central game mechanic and selling point is parkour the addition of a shooting mechanic where your typically are forced to slow down makes you seem less confident and your central mechanic.

[5 stars] 10/10 "Just wrapped up a session on Stride: Fates in VR, and wow, what an exhilarating experience! 🎮💥 Picture yourself as the lead in an action-packed chase scene from your favorite movie, but this time, you're the one calling the shots! 🏃‍♂💨 The movement mechanics are seriously impressive. You're basically free-running through futuristic cityscapes, effortlessly leaping over obstacles, sliding under barriers, and scaling walls like a true parkour master. The feeling of speed and agility is unmatched in VR. 🌃💨 But it's not just about running; the combat is where things really heat up. Dodging bullets like a pro, executing crazy maneuvers while taking down enemies with an array of weapons - it's like a mix of Mirror's Edge and an action movie, and it's incredibly satisfying when you pull off those perfect shots. 🔫🔥 The level designs are stunning, with plenty of verticality and alternate paths to explore. You can practically feel the adrenaline rush as you navigate through these sprawling urban landscapes, with danger lurking around every corner. 🏙😱 And let's not forget about the multiplayer mode - it's an absolute blast! Racing against friends or strangers in high-stakes parkour showdowns adds a whole new layer of excitement. It's like competitive sprinting on steroids, and it's ridiculously fun. 🏁🏆 Overall, Stride: Fates delivers an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride from start to finish. Whether you're a fan of heart-pounding action or just love the freedom of movement that VR offers, this game is an absolute must-try. Just be prepared to break a sweat - it's that intense! 💦😅" - Kornel Woj 3rd April 2024 at 17:24

yeah, from my understanding this was supposed to be a part of the base Stride as its campaign, then the developer decided to make its own separate game. I often feel like "physics based combat" being thrown around for a game is a sign to expect this kind of shit, even in big VR releases like Blade And Sorcery and Boneworks. The only real exception I've seen is Dragon Fist. WHile standalone gets a lot of criticism (rightfully so) I feel like more attention needs to be bought to the PCVR crowd that'll praise anything for having technically demanding graphics or physics interactions no matter the gameplay faults. To be clear in case I word things poorly, I'm not saying I'm any better or not part of the problem, these are just some things I notice.

(5 stars) AN ACTUAL VR MASTERPIECE "I can’t stop playing this game. Sure the story is simplistic but combined to the gun play and parkour it’s just fantastic STORY: spoiler warning for the ending. As I said it’s simplistic but fun, you play as nick, a super cool sky chase operator, trying to find his brother who he thought was dead, (skipping a lot for you to experience) anyway you get to the top of some tower and there’s a big robot being piloted by a “mysterious person”. I can guess you can see where this is going. 7/10 Gunplay: some of the best in the vr industry, I know that’s a big claim but trust me. I definitely recommend playing on manual reload though for that amazing gunplay you see in some trailers. 10/10 Parkour: this is what vr parkour NEEDS to be, there’s so many points in the game where I got out of bounds and skipped half of the level, that might sound like a bad thing but it shows how much player freedom there is 10/10 Graphics: gorgeous. 9/10 Overall? Buy the game! It’s a vr masterpiece. Oh and by the way did I mention the mixed reality mode? And all the different weapon attachments and customisation? 100/10" - wooden.fish 10 March 2024 at 09:55

I bought this game, and immediately refunded it within the same hour filled with disappointment. I wanted Mirrors Edge VR, and instead got really annoying yap simulator with broken stealth mechanics and lame shooting. The crazy thing is, the parkour isn't even that good. Im not joking when I say that bonelab/boneworks literally has better parkour and those are just physics games. I mean jesus, we've literally solved VR physics years ago, why can't people just use the physics systems literally BUILT in-engine(such as UE5) and tweak those physics to get something similar to something like Blade and Sorcery/Bonlab with some changes to make climbing more seamless?

As someone who got his ass repeatedly beaten in Battle Talent demo first level: it never occurred to me that you can just lightly touch the enemy with the sword and still do the same damage, because that's anti-intuitive. I imagine that most players also just follow their intuition where if you see an enemy you have to fight them, and then you're too busy fighting to look for exploits. Just for the record: I'm not excusing the games, I'm just pointing out how it gets overlooked by players.
@AmazingPVPer
@AmazingPVPer 4 ай бұрын
@@HanakoSeishin Well I was more talking about the devs, they should know because they made the systems, so in their testing this should come up very quickly, but this is what they think is fun I guess. Then about Battle Talent, what you call exploits is just the bad combat. I tried it a while ago and instantly noticed the issue if being able to hold your weapon still and deal damage. I wasnt looking for it, but I was experimenting with the combat to see what a hit was and how to get the most damage to be better. I wouldnt expect to go in there blind without knowing how to fight and assume I could win. I feel like if you dont notice stuff that is that bad and in your face, you arnt really playing the game or trying to win. I dont really get the point in playing if you arnt trying to get better. But you also said you just played the demo, so you prolly didnt play it for too long to notice it, so idk. But is that what you are looking for in a game? would you write a super positive review for Battle Talent? Im interested because i dont know what people are looking for then, I just dont see the fun in it. Sorry if this sounded rude, but I really just hate trash games and how they are praised while being ass, while also making any good games not stand out so we will never find them

Once again I thank you for tempering expectations and setting standard. VR melee combat can be a literal childhood dream come true. VR development is hard, but some of the things shown in this gameplay is unacceptably bad, and did not have to be there. One of the few VR devs I trust in pushing the envelope in this field is Warpfrog. While Blade & Sorcery is janky, their next project can be built from the ground up applying what they've learned in the past years. In the meantime, please keep being a cynical chronic complainer. We need more of that.

Honestly if it weren't for Elite Dangerous I would probably have sold my quest 3 a month after getting it, and that's quite sad for this tech that is so clearly full of potential. The guy who made UEVR probably helped the market more than the majority of devs who make native VR games.

Okay maybe I'm misremembering because it's been awhile since I played, but...Stride, the first game, didn't have as many glaring problems with parkour and AI. Of course I played it when I first got into VR so it could be as simple as me just being not great at any of it, but I legit remember having to really move my arms to run, jump, swing, etc. And enemies' aim were pretty accurate. You'd also go down in a handful of hits. Again, I may just be misremembering, but if not...why did they make the sequel so...easy?

What a shame. I’ve been waiting for this game for 2 years and the multiplayer stride game was one of the first vr games I loved playing, genuinely a special gaming experience, time has changed and yet nothing seems to have changed in the Vr landscape. At what point does the artist say good enough and release something objectively incomplete. Vr seems like a distant friend, with little strings attached maybe I’ll wait a decade and maybe there will be a semblance of expectation for a complete game to be made. Vertigo 2 showed everyone what could be done with Time, the solo dev made every part of his game shine, while simultaneously crushing big companies like Ubisoft who didn’t quite hit the mark. Be better and maybe Vr can be worth the time and money

@@josephkeen7224 They definitely are just as braindead (and I'm still holding onto a sliver of hope that they'll improve the AI with 1.0), but everything else in B&S is great. Nothing does physics based weapon interactions that feel as good as in B&S. Parkour in B&S feels weighty and it actually requires some effort to pull off interesting moves, since you have to grab corners accurately. Collisions with enemies are accurate (though not perfect, could be improved). The environments are beautiful (well the newer ones anyway) and a real joy to be in. Nearly every prop can be interacted with, and most can be broken if you put some force into it, too. The magic system is polished. Particularly for VR, I believe that it is important for these interactions to be as seamless as possible, which is unlikely given how much effort would need to be redundantly spent. Although not very feasible, I reckon that having freely available (and effective) implementations of common systems such as physical interaction and locomotion in popular game engines would at least prevent some of the grievances found within this game and others. Of course, nobody would want to release the code for their implementations as raising the standards of other games is in conflict with one's typical desires. Despite all of this, the dominance of stand-alone and its associated demographic doesn't reward the rigidity of systems in general. So, by releasing games with such dreadful interaction, developers only risk to lose a fraction of the market (though it does make me wonder why STRIDE would be ported to PCVR in the first place).

But, But, BUT, *BUT* does it have a difficulty select slider?? ...If no difficulty "selector" then it is a huge mistake to release a game like this. Difficulty selectors are the only way a Dev can get around being easy for VR-newbie and having hard difficulty for VR-Veterans because some devs dont seem to understand that you can ruin a game by not having these options for players to select. And thus killing the games overall appeal. ❤ Love your show Mr Voice ❤ of the MrVRvoice show. :)

i just noticed a "chaser' difficulty switch in the video, but is that for npc difficulty or just movement. Game should have a overall difficulty slider. LoL. ...Princess difficulty, :) ..for what we saw. And Epic VR-Voice gladiator Difficulty. For vets! 🎉😂🎉

I agree that difficulty options (ideally individual ones for the different aspects of the game) would help. Doesn't seem like it'd fix all the issues though, as the AI and game mechanics seem pretty broken/shoddy.

@@GreyMatterShades What Mr VR-Voice says is true too tho, that the Devs are just clueless on how to reach the VR mass-market audience that includes veterans "AND CASUALS". Devs simply catering to casuals only is wrong and gives VR a bad name. Add a hard difficulty option menu settings instead of making single one size fits all setting that never works for VETERANS. A casual would rarely notice anything is wrong wildly waggling their noodle arms hitting everything with glee. But a veteran will notice odd movements between hits and be disappointed by the lack of meaningful challenge. ...Anyway that is why "mandatory" difficulty selector options are needed "at launch" to avoid the "trying to cater to everyone game failures" that keep happening in VR. ...Just like Mr VR-Voice says, challenge is important in VR for the health of the industry and why we need it for VR now not later. VR reputation is fragile and without difficulty options VR looses half its audience and will not grow the VR audience larger. Remember the Devs have to understand before they can fix it. Right now Devs are catering to casuals & that will never work because casuals become veterans over time, & will be lost by lack of challenge and why we need the VR-Vet option menu at launch! :) . Mandatory difficulty settings menu - at launch FTW!

Wow that combat montage just kept getting better. Death by coffee cup, death by bat punch, death by slight push into environment! I guess there is a limit when games make u feel like a powerful badass

I think compared to any other VR game with free running, Stride feels the best. The enemies are stupid easy and the translations are hilarious. I however still have a lot of fun with it.

Its near impossible to get killed in this game, seriously I died once & that was because of a glitch where the grappling hook got stuck & left me dangling a hundred feet up.

I tried this game a few month ago, because I saw the review and thinking that the people was probably right about this game, I was wrong. The minute I do the shooting mission, I was done. I refund the game and I was shocked to see how this thing have good review on it. VR player need to reconsider what is a real VR game.

The gentle catch and release is hilarious! Even as a flatscreen player, it bugs me that VR games have so much wasted potential outside a few good hits.

Most quest games are forgettable, they rarely stay for long in my headset and the limited 128 gb space helps. This one, i barely finished the first level. But to be honest, i even found contractor showdown boring after a week. I prefer watching movies in my quest 3. Alien Isolation in VR on the other hand made me play for 13h in 2 days. I think mods and stuffs like UEVR for pcvr are where VR shines.

Guess the game is fun when playing as the devs envisionned it, not as the devs made the game :D But I don't think, youtubers/gamers who liked the game are responsible for "low standards" and expectation in VR (which is a bit exagerated when taking account of every other good VR games that exists) Joy way are well known for good ideas but bad execution with lots of bad design, bugs and cancelled projects. Also, the game isn't quiet a "success" with lots of players.
