Top 10 Most Valuable Kennedy Half Dollars EVER! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoPYnX2viNmHipY

Well, I agree with you! We have a couple that appear to be SMS. But, not perfect match on the example. The two that we have have more extreme doubling & exact die markers on both coins. They appear to be quadruple die. Not this example coin you reference. They don't have the normal finish is rough, they do have minor die scraps that are identical If we did not two of them. I would just say it's damage. But, both coins match identical But, they will have to be sent off to verify and I like ANACS. But, I do think there is more of these coins out here than just the 50 sets. I think there are several verity of the coin and that they were having problems getting the die right. Just my personal thought. But, it's sad that people get nasty about it. I really appreciate your videos. Thanks for going over the markers. You can see one of them at nuggetridge.com You decide. We have two. But, one is in Spain & here in us. We will grade together. So, we have to grade both at Same time because they are nearly identical. But, the some of die markers same die as the example you show.

Thanks for this... The reason so many people get fooled is because other KZbin bloggers, who are normally pretty good, get people with click-bait. They actually do gin up interest, but do so at an expense to the hobby. I can't tell you how many people on coin forums claim they have a 1964 SMS coin, when the truth is they were all with Eva Adams, then sold off to collectors, who sold to other collectors. So the chances if finding it in change or a Dansco album or coin roll from the bank (as some bloggers claim) at home are close to zero...

I agree, they would be common if all of them found one. And they down right argue and get nasty with you over this coin, I refuse to look or talk about them when someone starts on the 64.

@@SuperPegasus7 1964 isn't old and the 90% silver Kennedy Halves are metal so they look metallic. You're not going to just find one of these, all were found in a deceased mint employee's house. Im sure this has already been covered ( I only read the comments from recent to several pages down) Im paraphrasing here but according to PCGS the graded coins are photographed prior to being encapsulated to ensure the best image possible. Having said that, it pretty much drives the point that your coin must look as close to exactly as a coin can get ,excluding PMD, without it miraculously becoming the actual coin you are comparing. (this has been known to happen on occasion and is always temporary with the coin in question reverting back to "close but no cigar" or "wtf was I looking at" after ones attention is diverted from coin inspection to back of eyelid inspection for three or more hours.)

Great informative video but I think one thing missing from the images shown and your video is also the sides of the coin. What you read about the coins in the beginning of the video talks about very distinct square reeding or something like that and no images were shown about how distinct they are or look. That would also help. I have a dime that from my local coin shop said is that air gets trapped when the coin is struck it almost acts like a bombe and cause damage and sometimes cause the layers of clad coin to separate he showed me exactly where it looked like this happened and learned something new. But also learned something new that same day. That someone who knows more about coins won't believe or try to tell you its nothing. My local coin shop guy I speak of tried pulling my coin apart, I'm glad he didn't break my coin, also he then proceeded to tell me it looked to be tampered with to make it look like an error. Yet you can see the damage from the coin where he told me that acts like a bomb when struck and how it causes such a thing 🤔. So you can see what he talked about what happened and then proceeded to discredit my coin and find. That day I decided I will get it graded and looked at by a grading company and not rely on some who is knowledgeable about coins im not saying he isn't, but to try and pull apart my coin I have and tell me it's nothing I have a problem with. When what he spoke about how something could come about you can clearly see and then proceed to say it has been tampered with have a big problem with. I'm no liar, not trying to cheat or take advantage of something or someone for money yet the implication of tampering doesn't sit well with me when I know exactly how I acquired such a coin by hunting no deception needed. Cause my coin looks so exotic from the side and if put in a holder means you would see it. Maybe along with a slab pcgs should make a print out of all things about the coin and point them out along with grading then when they slad it yoy would know everything wrong or you have with a coin, without having to break it open just to see something. Great video just felt the sides of the coin weren't pictured or left out and would help others when trying to identify such a coin from what you read about the coin. Seemingly seems particular to such a coin is my only thought. Also your videos about misrepresented coin selling online let's me know there still are good people in the world. That 1977 Kennedy half bu roll i bought should have said 1977 cherry picked like craxy mint set roll would have been more appropriate cause they all have mirror finishes but if these things are uncirculated meant he never sold them he kept and did whatever he wanted to with said coins is more appropriately titled lol

My scale is correct because I use it on a daily bases. I must have a least 60 to 80 Kenndys this one just stuck out? What is this placed called annex? They wasn't released to collectors or circulated and we didn't know they existed until 1991 in a former mint directors house. All that exist was in her house

I have seen different videos on this coin. You stated the mint said it was not a proof but a Satin Finish. The accented hair I seen graded by PCGS was listed as PR-67? The sheriff on the I isn’t all there and the hair is different. They say nothing about the 4 and tear drop
@CoinHELPu Жыл бұрын
Because you’re mixing up the accented hair proof with an SMS, they’re not the same.

Actually, one of the sms does NOT have a teardrop and not all the coins have "exact" markers with the exceptions of about 6 exact markers listed on vdbcoins. So, this coin is an exception to the rule I believe.

Unless you have newer information that is not what they said, this is from their website. Two final Kennedy half issues deserve mention. A number of experimental 1964 Special Mint Set (or Specimen/Special Strike) coins were produced under mysterious (and unknown) circumstances, which are quite rare. We believe the 1964 SMS coins, the Kennedy halves in particular, are among the rarest coins produced in the second half of the 20th century. Please see the photo of our MS67 PCGS example on this site, part of our Registry Set items that are not for sale. We have done much research and believe the true number of SMS sets produced was 15-20 at most. Not all of them contained true 1964 SMS Kennedys, however, according to a source who was present when they first came to light in Stack's auctions in 1991 (not 1993 as is often given, as we have found Stack's catalogs from 1991 offering these coins). PCGS has certified only a dozen 1964 SMS halves, with some undoubted duplications. We have done extensive research on this series and believe that possibly only a dozen to 15 true 1964 SMS halves survive. We think most of the NGC examples have been cracked out and resubmitted to PCGS; the population data for both services are undoubtedly inflated, for all five denominations. We have handled several examples of each denomination, cent through half (and four complete sets) via private treaty. We are attempting to complete a roster of all known 1964 SMS examples; please let us know if you currently own/have owned any certified (NGC or PCGS) 1964 SMS coins, including the certification number and whatever details you can share. We will respect any confidential information.

@@CoinHELPuThis is the specific article I was referring to... Read very carefully under the heading 'Die Markers Obverse'. There IS one example WITHOUT the teardrop that has been certified and this also gives key characteristic markers. This article has helped me alot, eventhough many think they have one, it is my humble position there may be test strikes in proof sets or there may have been some released for GAC...Just something to keep in mind. www.vdbcoins.com/index.php/component/virtuemart/sold-archive-of-sold-coins/1964-sms-kennedy-half-ms67-pcgs-incredible-20th-century-rarity-detail?Itemid=0

But one example and what if they find out it's not an actual SMS? Also why don't they mention the doubled areas on these coins? Thanks for the info!
@Ddkrew15 жыл бұрын
@@CoinHELPu I have asked in some communities and there is such a wide degree of opinion of course because of the stigma surrounding their existence.... My theory (of course just as a collector not an expert by any means), is that this specific example withOUT the teardrop was accepted because of pedigree. I believe anonymity is given to most sellers, and I respect that...but that being said, I think this is also why you see an area of "protectionism" for lack of a better word, regarding these strikes. Also, I have personally researched this because of variations I have seen. As to the doubling, I think that is evident on all the other strikes of the SMS except the one withOUT the teardrop that they make the assumption that one was the first strike, as stated in the article. But I try to remember that it is an assumption when looking at the other coins in the group and again most likely based on its specific pedigree. Also, the fact that the mint continues to elude to the existence of a 1964 Peace Dollar and shows a mockup on its top 100 collectors coins makes this very very intriguing to me... My theory is never say never..especially when it comes to coins.. and dancing of course...😊

Hey Daniel, Thanks for this video. I really helped me understand what to look for. I actually have around 6 SMS sets but now I'm wondering if they are al authentic.

As long as they're 1965 to 1967 then they're SMS, but no one is going to just find a 1964 SMS coin or set.
