I lost fifty pounds in 2003, going from 190 to 140. I followed a little book called “The Five Day Miracle Diet” by Adele Puhn, and it worked really well for me. During the first week, I had a headache the entire time! I think my body was getting used to not having so much sugar! More than twenty years later, I’ve kept the weight off. During that time, both of my parents passed away and I retired. In 2003, I also started practicing yoga once or twice a week, and started walking for exercise. Now I’m 67 years old, retired, practice yoga 4-5 mornings a week, and walk three miles 3-4 mornings a week. Hang in there - YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! (I’ve been doing Intermittent Fasting for the last three years, and I Iove it! I don’t obsess about food as much as I used to. I recommend “The Obesity Code” by Dr. Jason Fung, and “Fast, Feast, Repeat” by Gin Stephens.)

Cathy, don't be so hard on yourself. Failure only occurs when you stop trying and you stop getting back up again. I'm 54 and also petite and my weight has been up and down for most of my life. These days, I'm focused more on my health than weight loss. Do what works for you and take things one day at a time. God bless you.

at 82 I'm hanging onto your motivation coattails. Love the string cheese, almonds trick, carry them everywhere so I'm not starving when I get home and eat everything in sight....LOL. I lost 10, but, because some medical event and had a wonderful sort of loss of appetite. Thanks so much

Cathy just remember you are not alone. We are here with you doing this along with you. You have saved me. I am so much like you in weight loss and other thing. Each day and it is working. it has been so hard, but this way of eating has taken the pressure off of eating. Since I began this journey in August I have lost 11 lbs. I am 5’0. I am 65 and am finding your videos so real……..I keep seeing carnivore but I really don’t want to cut out any food groups. I definitely need to kick the sugar habit.

Cathy, you are doing great on your weight loss journey. As you say for the biggest part you have stayed on your new diet. Don’t beat yourself up. So sorry for the loss of your mother. I know about health problems as I just recently spent 34 days in the hospital. Whatever it is your husband is dealing with will not be changed, it will be what it will be. Let the doctors handle it, then you proceed accordingly. If you don’t stick to your diet one day, that’s one day out of many. It’s ok. I’m sorry your husband is having health issues. You have to exercise also Cathy. Even if it is 10 min light cardio a day. That's not much but will do wonders in keeping your muscles from atrophy. I am on your exact plan with a few tweaks. and have a dietician through the va. Eating right will make you feel so much better obviously but it is the same with exercise. Walk in place or small marched why watching a video for 10 minutes. Believe me your body will thank you as well as increase your metabolism. I am 54 and have arthritis and my knees are bad and I still do low impact aerobics at least 5 days per week. I started with just 10 minutes a day in January and now do 30 minutes. I have so much more energy and my knees and muscles are getting stronger. Exercise will help your mood too. It is unreal. I have lost 50 lbs since Jan and am twenty poinds to my goal of 130 Good job on your healthy choices and weight loss.

I‘m struggling too Cathy. At 58 it’s not easy. Sugar and carbs - it’s really hard to withstand them. I‘ve struggled all my life since I was about 13. Right now I‘m trying to turn things around for the seemingly 100th time. Thank you for sharing the plate trick! Well, here I go again!

Your new lifestyle makes a lot of sense. I'm going to try it plus adopt your logic about it all. I'm not perfect either. Have 20 lbs more to lose & I've given up on carnivore & ketovore styles. Too restrictive with unpleasant side effects! Thank you for your honesty throughout. ❤❤

I think you're doing amazingly well! I definitely think a treat here and there is fine, since this is a lifestyle and you have to be able to live with how you are eating. I think the key is to move on after that treat and get back to eating better options, No guilt, no stress, just move on and be consistent. Congrats on your weight loss!

Hi Kathy, you mentioned cold grapes. Another nice fruit that helps with a sweetness craving is crisp, sweet apple’s refrigerated. I really enjoy just taking 1/2 of the apple and slicing it. I either eat it alone, with a piece of cheese or a small amt of almond butter spread on the apple slices. They are so good when cold.

Congratulations on your achievements Cathy, personally I think you're doing an amazing job taking care of yourself🎉🥳 - and as a side bar no one else's opinions matter but it sure is nice to have support and you have mine 100% percent❤. Our amazing bodies are like a computer and the minute we do something it doesn't like it tells us - so proud of you to be listening! My Achilles heel is chips and cheezies had them in my hands this week while doing groceries & put them back. That was tough but I did it & proud of my small win,🤗 Bought small apples instead and have all natural peanut butter or yogurt in the house - I'll have that as a dessert at night, along with a nighttime type of tea. Because I crave salt another snack after dinner I might try is some olives and a piece of cheese at least it's not junk food.

I'm so proud of you, Cathy! Try not to pressure yourself by using "should" because right now you're dealing with incredible stress. If you feel like you need a sense of accomplishment, measure your steps instead of how much time you "should" spend walking/exercising because you may surprise yourself with how much you actually walked without focusing on it directly. Today is the one year anniversary of my Mama's passing, but fortunately I have been very careful to avoid worrying about how I "should" be grieving and just take it day by day. I have deep sympathy for you. I always appreciate your videos and look forward to the next. You're awesome!

My Mother and Grandmother passed away within 2 weeks of each other 6 months ago. I lost my Dad last year. It has been the worst year for me. I have been eating pretty well. However, I am 63, and the stress and hormone levels have caused me to gain 20lbs. I can't find anything to wear and am very swollen and uncomfortable. I hope things get on a better track soon. You are doing so well.

I am so sorry for all you are going through! I completely get how you feel. On the one year anniversary of my mom's death, I went to her graves and just bawled. It has been awful. Dad died not too much long after that so I am without both of them this Christmas season. I love your videos and thank you for doing them.

I totally understand about exercising. I wouldn't even say 15 minutes. I'd say "move daily" and if you move while walking in place in front of the tv for 1 minute that day, you have won the day! Start so so so small that it IS doable no matter what. (I'm telling myself this as much as telling you.). :) (Also I just subscribed!)

You ARE worth continuing on this journey! I went out to dinner the other night and over ate. Felt absolutely horrible that night and the next day. Plus the scale let me know what I'd done. Back to the balanced plate and the weight is coming off again. Stick with it kiddo, you can do this!

Fantastic, Cathy. You are an inspiration! My problem is that I don't eat regularly and not enough. My calorie intake should make me loose weight, but my body thinks I am starving. This video really makes me want to try to make a meal plan. And I just ordered some firming cream too 😊

I've been doing WW and while I like it better than other things I've tried because it does help steer you to more veggies and fruits (zero points!) . . .I am sick of counting things, kwim -- whether calories or points. I am on the Carbohydrates Addicts Diet (CAD) and I love it. You can also ''balance your foods''- I don't so much- and eat low carb for some meals, and then a Reward Meal with anything you want- yes!- even a dessert or more- and as much as you want. Must finish this meal within one hour. You eat like this every day! What a way to live! I choose lunch-time for my Reward Meal but most people choose dinner. I am a real carbo addict, especially sugar, but I don't crave/eat the carbs outside my Reward Meal anymore. But I can eat my fill of carbs during my Reward Meal. I do ''chair exercises'' sporadically because of a bad knee. I am 75 years old and have less than 30 pounds to lose now. I feel free and plan to stay on this eating plan to goal and beyond!

Cathy, I celebrate my older (fat) picture. That's the girl who said, 'I've had enough. I can do this!' Its really a wake up call when you stay off sugar for a good while and then have some and really see how it affects your body. Looking back at older photos we have to remember that the version of ourself who might look bloated or unhappy or whatever, is still “me” and that person was still good and the current version is healthier. I’ve often looked back and felt sad seeing photos where I was larger but I’ve learned to have empathy for that version of myself who was struggling with this and that. I still struggle with sugar urges and it has taken time but I do feel better without it. Can relate to how bad you felt after the candy incident. My Apple Watch tells me that my average heart rate increases on certain days, and those happen to be the days I’ve given in to a sugar fix. That was a wake up call for me. I wish you and your family the best as you continue to navigate this stressful time 💕

Yeah. You are really working it. It is a journey and you are so right. Make small changes and once they become habits you will naturally want to go the next step (maybe resistance training one day a week for 20 minutes). You are so insightful in your reflections and real in your expectations of yourself. Your changes will certainly be long lasting and lifestyle focused. 🎉

Oh Cathy, I’m so sorry that you’re going through your grieving of your mom and dad and worrying about your husband. That’s a lot and I think you’re doing fantastic with your new eating plan. January will be a year since I’ve been off sweets and the longer I am the stronger and easier it is. People always say oh you can treat yourself once in awhile but I really don’t want it anymore because I feel so much better without it. This is the hardest time of year with all the treats but I too am a sugar addict and could slip up anytime. Just remember we’re not in a race to loose it in one week, we have to live and try and make good choices. It will happen, sending hugs and prayers.

Cathy, you are doing great in so many ways! Changing how you approach food, being so honest with yourself even as you are purchasing candy. Your 19 lb loss is great and you look beautiful. I am inspired to finally start on a new approach to getting my weight down. I have degenerative disc disease of my entire spine, 4 surgeries/ fusions) arthritis and connective tissue disorder in my hands, ( 5 trigger finger release surgeries and 3 carpal tunnel )And just today I had the first toe surgery due to degeneration of tendons in my big toe. All this has been done over 20 years. I share it to illustrate that Fibromyalgia,anxiety and depression are a result. Food,candy and fast food have been the treats to help me with all of it and the ups and downs of family life. I know what to do, and it does not have to be complicated or costly…it is what YOU are doing and it is a great inspiration to me and others. Sorry this is so long but I want to help you with your exercise challenge. It’s “a just do it” thing…just walk around your block starting with 15 minutes a day. Set a timer on your phone, bundle up if necessary and build up to 1/2 hour a few days a week only when you are ready. If you want you can find someone to walk with you. It’s what I do because I can’t commit to rigorous exercise. I am inspired to start again because of you! God Bless you and your husband❤️

Cathy, you are doing great! I totally understand not grieving right away for your mama. It took me about 1.5 to 2 years before I started any kind of grief process after loosing my mama in Jan. 2020. One day at a time🙏 If you feel like you need a bit of exercise just go outside and walk around your house or up and down your driveway. Maybe 3-5 mins. You get a bit of fresh air and move a bit. It’s a start 🤷🏻‍♀️💪🏻 You are an inspiration!👏🏻👏🏻

Amazing weight loss - you look terrific! I'm going to try your plan, I am also an emotional eater, but I reach for the crunchy, salty carbs. My husband has had major health issues leading to early retirement and it has really played havoc with my good intentions for eating. 14 years ago, I lost 125 lbs. and kept it off for 11 years. Unfortunately, I am now almost back to my starting weight. It's harder this go round due to menopause and arthritis, but I am determined. I went through a shame spiral but thank you for your inspiring videos - they're really helping me through this!

I completely get you. I am a sugar addict also, but now have type 2 diabetes and have no choice but to limit anything that raises my blood sugar. Like you, my husband has many health issues and I have been his full time care giver for the last 5 years. By the end of the day I am exhausted and can easily convince myself that I deserve a treat. Some nights I just give in, most nights I don't. Hang in there, Cathy, you're doing great. Hoping your husband's treatment starts soon and he has a full recovery.♥

Cathy, you are so right to just concentrate on your eating for now. Exercise can wait until this hard season eases up. Comparing your before and after photos, not only is your face and neck noticeably slimmer, your skin is glowing, your eyes are bigger, and your hair looks shiny and healthy. People forget it’s not just about weight! Your body has detoxed to a point where a bag of candy is way too much sugar to process. Congratulations! When it comes to food, I too follow the 80/20 rule. It keeps me from feeling deprived. I no longer feel that compulsion to eat a whole bag of anything. BTW, when I started exercising I only did one minute a day. Each week I added one minute. It’s so important to start really tiny so you can form a lifelong habit. Also, if you make the goal really small you don’t have an excuse not to do it.

Yesterday, I had eggs with kale and cheese, no lunch and dinner was sliced beef, peppers , and more kale. I gained weight from the previous day! But, I am in my mid sixties. We have been in a low carb journey for awhile. I am twenty lbs down, but this is brutal!

Hello, Thank-you for sharing with me. I'm 67, 4' 10" and 180.2 right now. 😮. The beginning of June I began eating good and was losing an average of 4lbs. a month. The start of July I learned that I need to watch my 6yr old Grandson during the 2 months of school vacation. I didn't eat right. The very day he started back (July 27) to school I started eating well again. August 1st I was doing my daily walk and stepped in a hole, twisted my ankle, and broke the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Metatarsal bones in my left foot. August 3rd I was getting on my crutches and fell backwards, caught my right foot under my dresser and broke the 4th Metatarsal. So, during this 4 month period I gained 12lbs😢. As of October 14th I've started eating good and walking again 1.5 - 3 miles per day and I'm down 5.8lbs. I can certainly relate to what you said about ups and downs 😂! Keep on keeping on my friend ❤❤❤.
