One of the advices thats being thrown around in the art world is "Draw Everyday". It's a good piece of advice to improve your Art. But people have taken that to the extremes which is leading to some unhealthy behaviours /mindsets when it comes to drawing. Hence, in this episode , Im taking about the idea that you dont have to draw everyday. you just have to draw consistently or today...

Well, regarding the drawing every day thing I definitely agree with you. Many young artists can be quite harsh on themselves and take large decisions without realising the hurdles. So they quit!! And stop creating. What I believe is 2 steps forward with one step back is still 1 step forward!!!! So you should definitely try to draw everyday and if u miss it's not a big deal, but it would be a big deal if u stop creating art. Therefore you should try to be consistent and and continuously hone your skills

At last "everyday drawing challenge" I failed. I draw one week but then I miss one day and I didn't continue anymore because I was thinking "ehh I failed in this challenge" but now I get it, if I failed again I will continue to draw because 1 point is always better than 0 point. Speaking of drawing everyday. When I was younger and first starting out I tried to dedicate myself to drawing everyday and I became really good, but one day I missed a day and thought it was all over. That mental idea of if you miss/ fail that you should just give up took control of me. Later though I changed that thought process and changed it to where I draw at least 15 minutes a week. That would change to a day. The time would increase and increase and now whenever I draw, I draw for hours. I personally love it and have kept to it since. And even if miss a day I don't care I just go back to drawing the next day.

I’ve always had a drive to draw everyday, but I find having inspiration whenever it comes is a powerful motivator. Doesn’t matter when, if you want to draw, just draw. Sometimes it’s important to rest or do other things if you’re just sitting in front of a half finished work, but if you have the urge to draw, go for it!

I've been through that struggle of feeling a failure for not drawing everyday. On the 100 Days of Sketching Challenge I really got to struggle a little, but the truth is it works to have consistency, and probably I would be better with maybe dedicating myself one whole day to draw as many time as I want than to try to force myself to sit down everyday to draw. There's this satisfaction and excitement that I get when I draw again after a long time, and I could take that on my favor, you know. Most people would think it's obvious, but the truth is it takes a lot time, and even one person talking to you, to realize there's that possibility too.

I love your videos. Your advice is solid. I struggled with drawing everday, since I started college. I only draw for school that's it. It's been so hard to find the time for my personal projects. Once I do have time, I'm unmotivated, so I decided to watch your video on motivation then this one. It helped me understand I should do in this kind of situation. Thank you so much for putting this into words, I've been thinking about the issue of giving up after a mistake for a while, and this video is just what I needed to finally get it. If your idea of a success is an unbroken streak, you're setting yourself up for failure. I think that applies to every goal you can make. I also like the idea that you are what you do, and you do what you are. Forcefully changing your habits for the better makes the cycle a positive feedback loop.

I actually really love this advice. It makes things so much more bearable to think of it that way instead of that I HAVE to draw every day. I'll admit. I started doing inktober in 2017. For the first two years of doing it I was under the mindset of if I miss a day, I failed. And then I would stop drawing for the rest of it. Last year I told myself I would just do a little bit each day, if I could finish great. If I couldn't at least I tried. In total I missed four days. But I still managed to feel proud of myself for 'completing' inktober and seeing the progress I made.

Great Video! This is relatable lol. I have been on a 366 days art challenge. So far I have missed it for 3 days but still going at it. It's my third attempt for doing art everyday for a year. I had given up previously just because I broke the streak in between and then it became a vicious cycle. This year decided to give myself some leverage by allowing to fail. I am trying to catch up by posting 2 artworks a day during weekends. That's kinda my new rule because some days I don't feel like making an artwork and somedays I just do it for a good 10-12 hours. Hoping to get through it :)

Hi Kesh, I watched this video last night and it inspired me to start a 30 day drawing challenge. Your content is really refreshing. I referenced your channel in a talk I gave at college about motivation as an artist and one idea that stuck out to me from that was that the desire to create art is like this burning candle within and it's what I needed to hear because I have this idea that i'm supposed to feel a certain way to be a "true artist". Giving up when things aren't perfect is definitely something I've done a lot. Thank you for reinforcing the idea that you don't have to put huge pressure on yourself to produce art everyday. Keep doing what you're doing. Really glad I found your videos. Also, what is that black liner pen you use in your videos?? Love from Ireland :)

Ya kesh! I do agree with you. From january I kept a motto of drawing everyday but I end up being like the first guy. But with different context ( I had a book to complete) in that I was like the second guy I didn't pressure myself to read / work out the book every day but I kept with the consistency . Last week with momentum been created I was able to finish it. Ya.... I just realized that I should apply the same rule as you said to drawing too. Thank you kesh... that was useful

As you know mate I have completed my last 10 days daily drawing challenge and I'm pretty happy with that... And I got a flow how to draw every single day. I just didn't draw 1 illustration but lots of sketxhes too... And btw i like your idea of DRAW TODAY, and the quote "everything or nothing". ✌️✌️
