I’m an adult who started to learn the guitar during the lockdown. Once I grasped some basic chords, I got stuck and almost gave up playing the guitar. Luckily I discovered your channel. Learning the guitar with you is really fun. (Yeah, i’m a Swiftie too.) At the same time, I’m surprised to find my technique gradually improved too. Can’t say thank you enough. :)

I'd just like to take this chance to thank you Nena for making learning guitar easier for beginners like myself :D I started self-learning the guitar through watching your videos, and it's really encouraging to be able to play and sing many Taylor Swift songs to my heart's content even though I only started learning a week ago :) I especially like the videos where you introduced 13 TS songs in the same 4 chords, please keep up with the good work! Hey Smera bar chords can be a challenge but sometimes I find it's a little technical issue that you will only address if someone experienced watches what you are doing and guides you. I've transformed lots of guitarists who struggle with this. What is the main issue with the sound? Dave

this is must see tv for beginners. i was pretty much stuck in noodling mode until i learned about the power of the capo and the C, G, D, Em chord shapes (the versions with 3and4 stuck down make the progression even easier). now i'm having a great time strumming along to songs like fast car and wagon wheel. and being able to play a simple F (like FMaj7) and simple F minor has been huge, too, so i can do best of my love. after watching you have fun singing and playing your red guitar, i definitely want to try some taylor swift songs.

I have been playing guitar for about a year now. I love it so much, I practice so hard every day, and Taylor Swift songs have helped me so much as well. A few days ago, I played the B minor chord as a bar chord and it made an actual sound. I had been practicing bar chords but they never rang out. These past couple days, playing the songs with the bar chords has helped because bar chords are so common. Even though I can play them now, I still don’t really like them, so thanks for this video!!

I've been playing the guitar since I was 12 and have always used the capo to try and cheat for my own songs that I write. I have arthritis and sometimes when my hands are bad I can't play certain chords and so I feel pretty limited and that I only seem to play the same 4 chords with every song that I write thank you for making this video. I know now I'm not the only one who hates bar chords and the Bm chord.

Thank you some much for doing this, Nena! I would love more help with strumming/improving rhythm when playing and singing. I can do strumming patterns ok when not singing but lose my focus on the strumming when I do try to sing 🙈🙈🙈 I know practice helps with muscle memory as the strumming becomes more automatic (like your hand is a metronome 😂). It’s just hard to get there so I’d appreciate any tips for improving this skill! Or any simple strums that helped you -maybe the next baby step after just downstrumming? Lol I love how relatable your teaching style is and how you teach what works. I don’t aspire to play in an orchestra or enter a guitar competition -- just want to have fun! Formal guitar teachers can be easily found if that’s what you want. It’s not so easy to find a Nena ☺️ Thank you for inspiring me and helping me pick up my guitar again and start having fun with it! The fact that you’re a swiftie is an awesome bonus!

wait what, are you suppose to transpose with the minus? I always transpose with the plus sign? Can someone please explain? Guess that is what I get for being self taught...
@DMCGuitarTuition3 жыл бұрын
No that's wrong. You can transponse up or down. The point of going down with the button is it just so happens tells you what fret to put the capo on. Music notes are like a continuous loop. If you go up on the transponse that takes you to get 11 capo which is not very practical. I would advise not using cheats because they always sound not quite right. You'll find re learning and correcting bad habits takes longer. Bar chords and strumming are big hurdles for beginners but cheating is not the way. There are more ways to crack this. What's your main problem with guitar? Dave
@NenaShelby3 жыл бұрын
hi thank you for the advice in the comments but this video is so that people don’t give up or get discouraged by bar chords. i’m just sharing my experience. please just let people learn the way they want to💓
@NenaShelby3 жыл бұрын
the minus adds a fret to where the capo is going to be! so if it says capo 2 and you press minus twice it’s going to be capo 4 for the new chords. hope this helps!
@DMCGuitarTuition3 жыл бұрын
@@NenaShelby you must realise its still not helpful advise. Still sounds 'not too good' the voicings your playing. People always hope for a hack and you are not a guitar tutor. I can see your intentions are good and I see where your coming from but you could give hand poison advise on how to get the bar chord. I teach new beginners all the time and I have about 5 different fixes to getting the bar. It's hard for a beginner to imagine different hand and wrist position. You are doing well anyway. You have a platform to give better advise.
@JackANDJude3 жыл бұрын
I transpose with the minus, and I combine that info with what I see TS do in live acoustic performances. It will get you there and it does not sound "not quite right" because our girl TS is doing it too. Do what motivates you, not what perfectionists tell you is right or wrong. Thanks to Nena! :)

I tried learning mean as well but most of taylor swifts older songs have been removed as in request by the publisher? idk the whole red album is unavailable now :(( maybe they are waiting until she rerecords all her albums so they can it accurate.
