In Detroit, we had one of the largest national home manufactures (Pulte Homes) offer to tear down 40,000 homes slated for demolition for free. The mayor said no and then started paying those on the Friends and Family Program $25,000 per demolished home. Surprise surprise, 2 years into the program people were arrest for taking bribes, falsifying invoices and dumping hazardous waste in the holes instead of clean fill. And just to put a cherry on top, they tore down a few homes that were not on the list.

On February 4th Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and Congressman Earl Blumenauer introduced “legislation mandating the declaration of a national climate emergency. The National Climate Emergency Act directs the President of the United States to declare a national climate emergency and mobilize every resource at the country’s disposal to halt, reverse, mitigate and prepare for the consequences of this climate crisis.” (This is from Mr. Blumenauer’s website.)
