After cracking my Carbon frame I went to a Knolly, don't see myself going back to carbon. Knolly's are rugged & high quality. One thing they are is a heavy frame so I would suggest building with the lightest wheelset for your application. After dropping the Knolly on some sharp edge granite and getting barely a scratch, I feel I have made the best purchase for me.

@@BikingwithJP Not sure, noticed it while riding across a flat smooth hiking trail but probably dropping the bike. I'm a 60 year old XC rider so I'm not a shredder, which is why I was so upset about the breakage. The exact part that broke was the seatube on the rear triangle.

In defense of carbon and Knolly.. Not all carbon is created equally. My 2019 Knolly carbon Warden is a fricken tank. I cased a huge gap drop - in a viscuous fashion-I'm talking concussion ,torn shoulder, bruised hip. A lesser bike would have lost the head tube.. my Knolly was unperturbed. Still shredding

Cube does a nice alloy 170mm 29er with top end kit for the same job , brilliant downhill and not too bad uphill. I have a couple of friends with them and they love them.

I completely agree on wishing there were more nicely spec'ed aluminum bikes. I personally think carbon is overhyped, and I kinda wish it didn't exist as I think aluminum represents a better value for most people. Not to mention how much easier it is to recycle than carbon if it does break... And now it seems we have a trend of more bikes only being released with carbon frames which is sad to see.

If you ever get a chance, try Kross Moon. They are a Polish make and could be hard to get near you, however I am in love with their suspension design (RVS). They only make alu frames of those but come in 3 specs/pricepoints. I got the cheapest one but am upgrading it part by part. Anyway, cheers from Poland!

I think I've watched pretty much all of your test ride videos several times and it seems, of all of the bikes you've ridden, you got along with the Chilcotin best. You seem to be super confident on this bike, so I'm curious why you didn't end up getting one. I'm considering one of these (in 151 config) but also a Sight as an aggressive trail bike for big mountain rides. Any thoughts?

The enduro is a bit stiffer so feels snappier on the climb, but the chilcotin feels so plush on the descent.

How is the pedaling of the new Chilcotin compared to e. g. a Specialized Enduro, a Santa Cruz Megatower or other comparable bikes? I've read, that Knollys 4by4-Supspension design follows a different philosophy. I am usually pedaling on wide open footpaths like fire roads to get to the trail entrances.

@@meganNefarious yeah I'm not a carbon hater, it's an excellent material. But the title of the video says "you don't need carbon" as though prevailing logic suggests otherwise. Another youtuber said "make sure you have an enduro bike with 160mm of travel for this trail" which is ideal, but I rode that trail in the 90s on a hardtail with cantilever brakes. My point is that elitism in the sport is the norm, and I don't think people realize that poor people like mountain biking too.

You should get a Pyga Slakline. It is aluminum and super sick! I felt so smooth and comfortable on it compared to my Yt jeffsy. It is also a better climber. I can throw that thing around so easily and it is so fun to ride. If I were you I would look into them. Their Instagram is: @pygausa
