‘You don’t protect my black children from racism by exaggerating racism’: James Macpherson

Sky News host James Macpherson has pleaded with people like Laura Tingle claiming Australia is a racist country, arguing people like her can’t protect his black children from racism by exaggerating racism.
“Are there instances of racism in Australia? Of course - as in every country. But is Australia an inherently racist country? Of course not,” he said.
“Actual racism can be called out and dealt with, but imagined racism, if bought into, becomes a massive chip on the shoulder that once established is almost impossible to remove.”

Well said. I am an Asian immigrant who arrived here more than 40 years ago. I have not been subjected to a single incident of racism in Australia, nor has my family. On the contrary, I have been treated like any other Australian, and had my share of succeses purely on merit. So much so that I had stopped even thinking that I was different. But the constant barrage of racism accusations against Australians has made me self-conscious, and frankly, insulting to all those who have treated me so well. I do not need the condescension from these self styled protectors of the "victims of Australian racism". Laura Tingle can stew in her depression about this, but I am a happy in Australia, enjoying the wonderful hospitality and generosity of Australia for more than forty years.

Good on you ashado. I can honestly say I don't give a damn about anybody's skin colour or the shape of their eyes or any other similar totally irrelevant physical traits. 100% spot on , we Australians gave this country democracy freedom of speech. You have the right to disagree but you don’t have the right to sensor. My disagreement a.b.c , Racism goes against freedom of speech and democracy. If you don’t believe in freedom of speech what do you believe in?, look around the world, not many countries where you are free to prosper like Australia .

I'm so glad you've had a good experience in Australia. We the Aussie people love and welcome anyone who wants to make a life for themselves here! There are OBVIOUSLY exceptions but the vast majority of us welcome with open arms. The problem most of us have is with immigrants that want to turn Australia into the country they came from or do nothing and live off the system.

There you go! With respect, I will question this accusation. Were the "two young indigenous boys" incapable of waiting their turn and had to be "saved" from racism? Some racists seem to think they can actually read the minds of others, so your dad claimed he clearly KNEW the black youths were ignored because the other people were racists. Were they? That's how it goes folks.....lol. Some now claim to be able to read the minds and intent of others which has led to the crazy accusation of people committing "hate crimes" against others. You have to be able to actually read a person's mind to know their intent to be able to then call it a "hate crime". I hate the propaganda and political manipulation of words. A crime is crime and is proven to be a crime by REAL proof - not by imagination.

So true - we have so many women now given UN-earned positions of power in politics that our whole system is becoming skewed towards gossip, innuendo, accusations rather than evidence and on and on - petty, childish, exaggerated emotional nonsense. but dangerous because they have political and legal power behind them, using threats of imprisonment and the law to crush anyone opposing "new" ideas. Most young Modern women are truly terrible when given leadership roles. History has warned us, but we think we, as modern people, are different. Human nature is always the same.

I'm Colombian American. I lived in Sydney from 2020-2022 and I never once felt that I experienced any racism (I'm pretty brown and can even pass off as Lebanese). As a matter of fact people were generally curious in a good way. Sure there might be a snide comment here and there (mostly stemming from questions if I have coke but that actually happened to me in India way more than anywhere else) but overall people were great. The problem with this whole woke narrative is that it finds oppression in places where there isnt any. I saw Australia as a land of incredible opportunity if you are willing to actually work and do what you have to do. IDK how asking someone where they are from is a bad thing. An Indian looking man or woman in Australia (while very common) is still going to bring up a conversation. Just as with other people, I'll be curious about their story and how they arrived in Australia, espeically since I'm from an immigrant background in the US. Thats far from an insult. Thats just genuine curiosity.

In the case of "micro aggressions" I think that sort of nonsense is overrated. In the sixties the Irish were discriminated against and as an immigrant myself at age 6 I developed an English accent but on some occasions I would be asked where was I born, Ireland nuff said but some individuals were a bit stand offish after that. "Micro aggressions" are really quite annoying, the few times someone has said something to me and it wasn't until later "I thought I have been insulted" in a way that you would sound stupid complaining about. But I was white, male and working in an office environment so at no point on the rare comment which was veiled did I think about it and it wasn't until later I realised that was rather uncalled for.

Yep - keep relations at work very low key. Just ask people, "What do you mean?", clarity is preferable to imagined slights. A person may not like you; you can usually feel that so stay away from that person as much as possible in the workplace. There is nothing wrong with a different opinion either. There is a time and place to deeply discuss some things, the best place is at home, with your own children and wife. Of course, you need to first look at your own attitudes, compare them with your family's attitude so you can clearly understand what your OWN values and ethics are BEFORE you start educating your children about civics and public behaviours, manners and such like. Growing up is great. Regards.

I don't know but his children are surely mixed race, in which case half white. This concentration on classifying mixed race children as black seems to be rather racist. I read somewhere that the Spanish in South America had graduations going down to 1:128 black (Mixed race), so after 7 generations presumably the result was white. No I am lost for an argument but basically it seems all mixed race children are black irrespective of the colour of their skin (A tan to die for in the case of my grandson).
@ladybug591
@ladybug591 21 күн бұрын
I think his children are from Africa - I think he mentioned something about that? I wouldn't get too obsessive - I guess people go by what they SEE because they cannot know the family background, country, marriages, skin colour of a person's relatives and enquiring about that would seem rather unnecessary and intrusive. It's best to look upon a person as a person - rather than a skin colour or a graduation of some earlier skin colour. We humans will always classify everything, that's natural and not racist but only YOU know how you FEEL about all that person's skin colour, so it's up to you to self-examine. If you feel an unreasonable hatred then you are probably a racist. Constant media talk about skin colour can separate people and can lead to unsettled feelings - this is the result of deliberately racist propaganda, treat people as people not as a skin colour and you will always defeat the racist propagandists. They are the true racists.

No it seems you don't understand the term/phenomenon of micro aggression. A microaggression is a brief, everyday statement, action, or environmental cue that communicates hostile or negative attitudes toward a marginalized group or individual. Microaggressions can be subtle and unintentional. The person making the microaggression may not even realize it's offensive.But despite being subtle, microaggressions can have a negative impact on the recipient. Over time, the accumulation of these experiences can be stressful and damaging. Here is an example. A supermarket check out person asks everyone if they have a discount membership card when they are at the checkout counter, but they don't ask the people with black skin because they assume you are tourists and won't have a card or won't even understand your language. Imagine this happens every day at every supermarket that the black person goes to. They can't fix the problem because it happens everywhere. Its not illegal, not overtly aggressive, but over time it will have a negative effect on your mental state.
