The concept of it is so simple, no one actually stop and say "it's so simple, but why?". I love when people explain the simple things no one pay attention to

Because like you said it’s simple asf…. You don’t really need an explanation unless you’re just terrible at video games and also lack common sense and strategy. These videos are good for noob/beginner players it’s useless for the vast majority. I mean if you need a video to explain position or who to shoot, idk what to tell you man stick to Roblox or something not competitive

@@Foggycallabasashillshelicopter why you gotta be so petty? This concept + understanding the range of your hero is the difference between the very top and good players. All of these things, as simple as they are on paper, are ultimately what enables you to make use of your resources as effectively as they can be. Also, I'll play devil's advocate, it's not as intuitive as you might think. As Tracer, using your whole clip on a tank nets you a 1/4 of their entire hp, use your whole clip on a squishy, you get a kill. This is why 'target priority' became such a popular advice in educational ow and phrases like 'don't shoot the tank', because it is more intuitive to attack a target that's more fragile to be more effective. This video shows that it actually depends on your positioning

@@Foggycallabasashillshelicopter its not just knowing the concept, you need to fundamentally understand it to the point where you can execute it flawlessly without thinking on a whim in every scenario and situation, which is what separates the top players from lower players, and the pro players from even the top players.

6:44 Necros actually explained sometimes who he prioritizes first with blade. If there's a lifeweaver, you want to go for him first because if you go for someone else lw will just pull them to safety. Or not dashing into lucio immediately and instead wait for him to use his boop so you can use dash to close the distance again. Theres a lot to learn from one tricks.

Yea and this goes with any offensive ult really. You make a quick checklist of "what would be the easiest and most convenient way for the enemy team to negate my attempt at value", and then you either target that player, or wait for their cd to be used, or for them to simply not be close enough in proximity to have influence over your play. Just like how you don't pulse a Moira as Tracer even if she's super convenient, unless you specifically saw her use fade already. Or a Kiri who likely has Suzu or tp, etc. There are always caveats to any baseline approach, and navigating that aspect just comes down to ability matchup experience to make a quick assessment on the fly.

What I find most frustrating with low level players is they have this bizarre obsession with what you are "supposed" to do vs. to what is more advantageous at that particular moment. You will have a tank over extending and feeding completely ignored by the DPS cause they have tunnel vision for the inaccessible support. So the over extending feeding tank play actually pays off
@ProfDCoy
@ProfDCoy 28 күн бұрын
I think of it as the 'why' behind the 'should'. A lot of us know what better players do, how high level meta looks and plays. And we want to play like that, making those same plays and decisions. But we don't ask ourselves why the better players don't just do easier low level plays. Well, it's because they know they'll be punished for it at hogh level. The issue is, if you yourself don't know the correct punish for low level greedy plays - and you don't quickly and consistently spot the greed and execute the punish - then you are not a high level player. Why should a player do what they 'should' do against you, if you can't punish them for it, if you can't give them the why behind the should?

I think this is why Awkward's "always be shooting" advice works so well, this is just a much better explanation of it. He prioritizes getting a good position, particularly one where the enemy isn't shooting back at him, and then just shoots whatever is in front of him. Sure there are certain targets that are better to shoot, but it's more important to be constantly outputting value than to always target the "correct" hero. Also I think Awkward is not a good person but he is good at Overwatch. Don't take this as an endorsement of him.

@@jesusdueas7145 i watch awkward a lot, i love his content, but the reason a lot of people don't like him is he tends to have seemingly very black and white takes like countering doesn't matter etc (i think he did a recent video on only countering, which i think shows the disparity between him and the normal player). i usually understand what he's trying to get but it's also fair that other people would take his opinions at a face value and it becomes quite divisive. like in the case of countering, it does matter, but like he has said/implied in the past, it doesn't matter if you're good enough at the hero being countered (ik so many rein mains that dont swap regardless of enemy hero picks, because they're just that much better but thats the thing theyre just SO MUCH better,, if people were so much better than their opponents, they probably wouldn't be watching much ow educ content anyway). however, if u factor in WHO watches tips and tricks videos (people who find they are not good enough in certain situations or overall), then of course counterwatching ends up mattering as a sort of temporary fix to being worse than your opponents. i wouldn't endorse countering more than i would just getting really good at a small selected heroes especially in the long term (as i find kiriko and bap - my two "best" picks - always being good regardless of if i counter or not, tho they just do have generally great kits overall) but it's not as simplistic as he said. that said, i don't necessarily think he's a bad person. he seems like a chill dude with sometimes unnuanced takes, perhaps to clickbait (which i don't think he seems to care much about) or perhaps because of how disconnected he is to the reality of bad players (in short he's too good compared to most players who tend to watch educational ow videos) and because of these, a lot of other ow content creators don't like his opinions (and him by extension in some cases). sorry for the long wall of text, i just like awkward's educational content a lot but have a lot of thoughts on this entire thing haha

I think a pitfall players may fall into, is hearing you Spilo say one thing being bad, and then in the gameplay they still get an elim out of it. The thing people may not realize, is that the elim is just a 50/50 vs equal skill players -whereas the proper play that may not have led to an elim in that particular case, would still grant an overall advantage in majority of games not just vs people at your skill level, but also those above you in the ranks you wish to climb into. I see it as the OW equivalent of confirmation bias, where anything that leads to an elim is taken as positive reinforcement, even if the underlying play actually was bad and it was more to do with pure coincidence and probably misplay on the opponents side, rather than skill and good play on your own side.

I just got back into overwatch as zen, I've definitely noticed this, but it's good to see it put into words. I like sitting right behind the tank in a poke battle, or far in backline, or near a super well positioned/non-squishy dps. When I chase down picks, initially I was trying to go for these insane offangles, I waste time and cause people to die. But when I hit that slightly wide angle that puts awkward pressure on a team from a safe position as my general goal, I do far better. Because even in the act of focusing on a target, you're actively sacrificing the best possible postion to do something you're only half made to do, instead of dedicating to the thing only you can do, I'm sure it's similar for dive chars, or dps

I also use this same similar tactic in golf. Stop trying to aim directly for the hole and aim for the green. Too many people think they're pros and whiff more than 50% of the time and het upset and quit. Aim for the best position that you can easily roll it in the hole next. Play bogey golf. People want to play with confident players, not pros. You're alienating your team and yourself 😂

As someone who comes from TF2, the epiphany I had here was that it’s just playing the Medic in TF2. He’s target #1 and a lot less survivable than any OW support, and it’s 12v12, so bad positioning can get you killed very fast. As Medic usually I find a nice spot where I’m not in danger of flankers, snipers, or spam down main and just heal whoever happens to be in healing range within my chosen spot for the current gamestate, only taking heal priority into account if I’m surrounded by 3 guys who all need heals. Now just apply that to Overwatch and all roles. Damn…

And on the other end there's the OW player that's very new to TF2 (me) who never realized all of the advice here applies to Medic. I sometimes find myself wishing I had Fade or Swift Step.

It reminds me of chess somehow: the ultimate target is obviously the enemy king, but trying to force through an attack without any setup usually fails. One should focus on building their position, focus on the more attainable, short-range goals, and go for the king when the position justifies it. "Tactics flow from good positions"

This video needs to be on the OW splash page... I had this argument just yesterday as Ashe with a Brig flaming me for shooting tank (an assumption based on my dmg numbers being high but less kills). It was during Clash and I had high ground and was regularly using dynamite on the backline to force them to disengage and was watching for the Tracer flank (could hear her trying to wrap around) while shooting the opposite high ground to keep Junkrat off of it. I felt like I had zero downtime and was constantly pressuring and forcing them back, but our Brig kept chasing our Tank into the backline and dying. It was Clash - there was no reason to chase if we had good control of objective and good position. They had an Ana Mercy so forcing them away even if they didn't die was to me huge value. The rest of the time I just shot the tank because he was available and i wanted to help tip the tank match. I honestly felt like I was focusing evenly on everything and staying alive and protecting the flank. On top of that, the Brig was not in chat so was missing all the call outs and ult tracking. Another way to look at it for me is when you are playing against someone who understands this type of gameplay. It is immediately harder to play against them and when you see what they are doing, they are doing exactly what you said - not falling for the flank bait like the sym was trying to do in the clip towards the end and protecting position and going for what is available. I hate playing against smart people...! Overwatch is definitely a team game but playing smarter and not harder is a real advantage.

Plat tank brain interpretation here, but I've always approached it as 'shoot what you can kill'. Obviously oversimplified, but gets the point across. If you can get a pick on a backline support, awesome. If a dps overextends and you can kill it, target that. If you think the enemy is low on resources and you can focus down the tank, do that. The idea that you should target supports is true to an extend, because at least in theory they're usually the most vulnerable, and make it harder for you to kill the other members of the enemy team - but if you have a chance at picking off a dps or tank, why go through the extra step?

its so weird... i started doing this with winston and ive started to win way more games. Not because IM getting the kills, but because if I get the kill great its a pick, but if I dont get the kill its because cooldowns got used or a support peeled to protect their teammate. And when that happens my team almost ALWAYS gets a pick.

I noticed that i am performing a lot better with flanking characters this season, such as Reaper and Tracer. I have completely dropped hitscan and only pick it up if there's an annoying Pharah or Echo, and even then, sometimes Torb turret does the job for me. After the nerfs to support health pools the game feels a lot fairer for the dps and you feel as if you actually make a difference again, unlike Season 11 where the supports had all the mobility and survivability in the world and managed to healbot their gigabuffed tank the entire time.

I've seen some players stop shooting someone when they think they won't get the kill, which is insane to me. Suppression is a thing. Don't ignore players in front of you "because they're not the target". I promise you, your tank suffers if you do that.

When I play Juno I feel the effects of every sombra who does have good positioning AND target priority and it’s very obvious when they have terrible priority - sombras are too thirsty for Juno , they get too invested on target priority and invest too much and end up throwing chasing Juno around the whole game as a revenge plot

Almost everything is outside of your control. You may take all the right actions and fail. You may take no action and win. All you can do is put yourself is positions to win. Be consistent. Patience will eventually get luck on your side. -Seneca

Ive been hardstuck plat for 2 seasons now and i decided that instead of working on my mechanics i should actually work on my macro and understanding how teamfights should go how to manage time and when to force a play and stop When to keep taking space when to not etc cuz i pretty much ignored all that when i started learning how to play ow2

I get that this is good advice and its the correct way to play but if you sit at a corner on tank and wait for opportunities, your dps and supports just get picked off before you can make any plays. When I get games like that I feel I have to make dumb risks and play aggressively on tank just for a chance of winning, then after a few games it becomes a bad habit.

I have a question for low elo. (I don't play overwatch, this is more advice for similar games) If my teams positioning is just off, our tanks are in the back or flanking. Team just isn't playing or setting up angles around the objective, what do I do? Do I try for where I SHOULD be positioning regardless? And if that has my being too far forward, I just fall back until I'm where I should be in theory, even if it's off the point?

This is how i play though i dont just hold angles for no reason. I have an idea of where i want to go if i run into some one on the way i shoot them while still on my way to my destination unless i can see that im out numbered or they come so close into my effective range that its easier and more effective to kill them. they use their escapes to run to heal welp back to my position unless its easier to finish the kill.

I know you don’t do content to be famous or only to get numbers, but it could help to look at the thumbnail and title of this video and think a little. It just makes me wanna click, it's so simple and yet, well made. Maybe the title does a good job of making me feel like you’re talking specifically to me. Anyways, really like your work, cheers from 🇧🇷.

My philosophy: I don't care who tf people shoot as long as you kill them or stop someone from making space for their team or taking out the play maker. Just don't keep shooting at a mauga or hog with full heals, stop running down main getting lit up (feeding), and don't wait until the end of the game like a pussy and tell everyone they suck with 1 sec left on POG so no one can respond. Especially when you don't offer any constructive criticism in the match (these people usually have ass stats too or good stats in the wrong places claiming "they" were doing their job"). I play where I can adapt to the weakest links as a tank and I with more people would do that or at least do their job well tank or not

At 8:35 can I ask why you would go for DPS over supports here? Isn’t it more intuitive to lay some damage on the enemy support if they’re no further away from you than the DPS are?

Forgive me if I'm just being confused. But aren't you just describing target priority? Like as a concept, isn't *priority* just referring to what order I should be focusing on attack the enemy team? Saying that positioning comes first, then introducing that idea that the priority can change depending on map, characters, or otherwise, is still discussing target priority, no?
