Granted, in my mind I supposed they believe they had it in the bag since Trump appeared to be intentionally trying to fail while not looking like trying to fail. I guess we should never underestimate the thrall of populism and its staying power. That's what I've learned. I hate that lesson, but it's an important one in the current system. Maybe some day we'll get lucky and have a better way of picking good leaders. Democracy, but better. I've had a look at what other countries are doing, and there are several other appealing options. Every journalist is biased, including Mehdi, but Mehdi is committed to truth. Which is important in an era where "my truth" is more important than the actual truth. Even if you disagree with him, at least his analysis is based on truth. This is much better than idk Jesse Waters where defending Trump is where is truth begins and ends. Or CNN where bringing a "balanced" approach to having republican and democrat voices speaking on issues is their benchmark of truth. When it obviously hasn't occurred to them that maybe one of those sides is lying and even presenting their side as a fair good faith position is journalistic malpractice. Mehdi is a Gem. So is Ryan Grim, where they are not committed to a particular political party but rather true and factual analysis. The only issue to the bias they may have is the stories they chose to cover as they are progressives.

the most frustrating thing about it is that Democrats not only adopt the right wing redefinition of words (as a slur against supposedly oversensitive cultural warriors), but with it just completely accept the entire right wing narrative around not only this but the entire campaign cycle. Only yesterday everyone was aware that this is just Trump talking out of his behind again and making stuff up by pretending she's black-not-black, that Harris wants to turn schools into dick-chopping factories and will announce the communist people's republic of north America once elected etc. All the sudden dem politicians just accept Trumps alternate reality as truth. There's really no helping this self-defeatist clown show of a party. Goodness, if this party is really the one thing standing between the people and Trump dismantling US democracy, the war is already lost.

Mehdi should debate this with Cenk. Mehdi would kick his ass!!
@rhmayer118 күн бұрын
I don't understand your point. Cenk has been saying the SAME THING as Mehdi; both are very critical of the establishment, pro-corporate Democratic Party "leadership." There would be little or no debate between the two. They BOTH denounce the argument that Harris lost because she ran a too-progressive campaign. They BOTH argue the opposite - that Harris lost because she veered off what started out as a more progressive-populist campaign (as she went up in the polls) that devolved into the ever-losing strategy of going after moderate Republicans and stifling the talk about progressive policy plans. In essence, like 2015, we are in an era of populism. Fake Populist Trump was able to define Hillary Clinton as the Establishment Candidate. And now in 2023, Trump again has defined himself as the outsider-populist and Harris as the Establishment candidate. Harris bought into it - and campaigned as the establishment candidate. The mass of U.S. voters - mostly politically disengaged - in this era will vote for a fake-populist over an establishment candidate. The only thing that can beat a fake-populist in a political climate of populism is a real populist, not an establishment candidate like Harris.

@rhmayer117 күн бұрын
@@elijaharvinger1178 Thanks. I interpret that a bit differently. I didn't see that show, with Cenk on Mehdi's podcast. But I've heard Cenk railing about the Dems allowing Trump/GOP to go after Harris and Dems on "wokeness" - allowing them to make it an issue. However, Cenk noted that Harris never mentioned "woke" issues EVER during her campaign. She never talked about trans rights, pronouns, DEI, never once used terms like LatinX, etc. Cenk's complaint was how Harris ignored and hid herself from the issue and therefore LET Trump define the narrative - as liberal overreach. With regard to calling right-wingers fascist, his point of view is, while that's true, the Dems spent too much time and energy on the fascism fear angle AT THE EXPENSE OF talking more about populist-progressive policies. That is, that the continual focus on Trump-fascism was NOT producing positive/increasing poll results, while there was statistical evidence that when she spent more time and focus on popular-progressive proposals, like in the earlier part of her campaign, there was tangible positive poll results. So, yes, Harris's/Dem's failure to redefine the Trump's/GOP narrative on "wokeness" (as, in its essence, about civil rights and equality and fairness, and she could've rejected extreme examples to clarify both the issue and her position) and the primary focus on Trump-fascism, were two factors that hurt the Harris campaign and helped lead to the loss. I think that was Cenk's point. Personally, I would agree that the Dem's downplaying of populist-progressive proposals and solutions was the biggest factor (and I think both Cenk and Mehdi agree on that). It's why Hillary lost in 2016 and why Harris lost in 2024 - they both had popular support when they leaned into progressive-populist proposals and solutions and then their support dwindled as their campaigns dropped emphasis on that and went after "moderate" Republicans which, together, re-established themselves as the establishment candidate - allowing Trump to take the (fake) populist mantle and win. I'll need to search for that Cenk-Mehdi podcast. My guess is that they basically agree but probably have disagreements on the nuances.

You all blame each other when you should be working out how to make the Democratic Party a broach church which has room for many, respectful and respected opinions and beliefs. There needs to be a place for everyone instead of factional in-fighting. Then candidates can feel like they can say where they stand on beliefs, and the whole Party chooses the candidate they most align with. That candidate can then actually have a stance on things without being so scared they'll p- off people in their own party. That is what Democracy is meant to be like - put forth your ideas and people vote on them, and the most popular ideas win and get taken to the electorate.

They aren't and as far as I understand nobody in the video is. The Republicans are all elites or brainwashed maga which indeed is brought on by elites. All that I can say is that Republicans have occasionally stated that they hear grievances from the working class and fool voters by not only voting for them, but misdirecting their base regarding the cause. The Democrats on the other hand don't even acknowledge the grievances or at least discuss them. Therein lies the problem. I'm not defending people who were fooled by Republicans, but what do you think would happen in such a scenario when not being completely informed?

Obama started annoying me when he said codifying Roe v Wade was no longer a priority shortly after he got into office, and chose Wall St instead of Occupy Wall Street. Voters wanted change from the status quo back then because status quo was not working for them. My biggest issue with Harris was this: she offered tax credits for starting a business and buying a house. Most Americans don't care to start a business and many feel they can't afford to buy a house. That didn't leave much on the table for the rest of the country.
@vh9network18 күн бұрын
Well you got to start out working, saving money, building credit for the house part to become achievable. Putting tax credit for small businesses helps create more work opportunities, rather you want to start your own business and employee others or you want to benefit from the business as a worker. Saying these were negatives is a bit short-sighted and sort goes against that there was nothing on the table at least in that aspect. Especially when Trump offered nothing by comparison.
