Some solid ending variety, always happy to see an ending where you just leave. It did have some odd pacing here or there but this was still good, especially for the dev's first game.

The cat did attempt to help in the knife ending but not as much as the sea salt one. Camellia didn’t do much but stay idle while Rosetta is crying “No” and asking for Camelia to help her while she’s dragged away. Though, we can appreciate her more than the “cat” from The Witch’s House. Really, cats can be written as different types of characters, which really depends on how the author or script writers will give dialogue to the characters and ways they interact with one another in a story.

Galatea is pronounced Gal-ah-tay-ah, it means "milky white" because she was made of white marble. She was a statue of Aphrodite that Pygmalion made, and then forsook all other women for it, which usually would anger Aphrodite, but he made a statue of her and fell for it so to her it kinda made sense, so she made the statue into a real woman for him to love.

As someone who's somewhat obsessed with being 'good', whatever it takes, I felt for this protag a lot. I ended up hurt a lot when I was younger because I'd sacrifice my health and happiness as long as I felt I was doing something 'good' for someone else. It took a long time to learn that you're just as important as others. I wouldn't give up my legs now, but there was a time in my life that I would have made that choice. I felt some peace from this game because it kind of reassures me I'm heading in the right direction. It's okay to want to be kind and bring happiness to other people, but you shouldn't harm yourself in the process. It's not selfish to take care of yourself.

bro, I needed this advice for a long time, but sometimes I can never bring myself to be selfish, and end up in trouble no matter how many times I either think of others or myself. If I were in Rosetta's shoes, I wouldn't have given up my legs either, but like her, I would've had the same thoughts after rejecting the offer, thinking I wasn't a good person or thinking I was selfish. And heck, just like you, I'm also pretty obsessed of the idea of "being good", and even would sacrifice my wants for needs, and my happiness for other people's happiness. But to put simply, I also related to this protag a lot, and I love the way the developer wrote the story. The buildup towards the conflict was really well done, along with the endings.

Rosetta actually looks a lot like Melody & this story is reminiscent of _‘The Little Mermaid 2’._ Melody being Ariel & Eric’s daughter in the film- she loves the _sea_ just as her mother loved the _land-_ but it becomes dangerous for her. Ariel starts trying to keep her on the _land_ just as Triton tried to keep her in the _sea-_ it’s actually a pretty good sequel, as sequels are concerned.

[SPOILERS] I imagine that mermaids in this case are NOT a kind of fae, but I think not giving your name is the best possible decision. Fae in certain mythos need your name to do anything to you, but it applies to them too. If Galatea is indeed a kind of fae, then her giving her name while you don't give her yours is a very bad slip-up. Again, I know that mermaids are likely not fae in the game world, but it's worth saying. EDIT: She/it was a demon. Fae were at least in some mythologies demons/fallen angels, so this still does hold up somewhat.

It's an interesting twist this story plays on ya. I initially thought that when she said give me your legs, it'd be like "thanks gal. I'm out of that well and off". But no, it's *literally* to eat the body and be a host inside the well. And like she said before, all the loved ones she had abandoned her which makes you think that once she gains a vessel, she pretends to be that person struck in the well and they will eventually abandon her, maybe because they can't handle it anymore or it's hopeless in saving the person back and everyone leaves cuz of old age. Or the well ate them too. I like that. Does make me wonder if considering she's related to the Sea King, is the Sea King going to be mad and be like "give my granddaughter back or I'm gonna send you to the abyss, you hag"? Joke aside, really love this fairytale game.

I dig some research and I find out that " Galatea " in Greek means " she who is milk-white " well just like the mermaid she's also white ( but with some grey patterns on her tail and black hands) and GALATEIA ( Galatea ) was one of the fifty Nereides and the goddess of calm seas ( plus she's a sea nymph) ( Nymphs meaning a mythological spirit of nature imagined as a beautiful maiden inhabiting rivers, woods, or other locations. Examples like fairy, goddess, dryad, mermaid, naiad, nymphet, spirit, sprite, sylph) And in Greek mythology Galateia was a statue of a maiden brought to life by aphrodite in response to the prayers of the sculptor Pygmalion, who had fallen in love with his creation ( this is my research so please correct me if I was wrong)

The true ending had such a good build up for a fake out ending, like hard cut back to the well and being pulled under. Like a trauma nightmare afterwards, then continuing to the rest of the good end, which would have worked better to show that Rosetta was still shooken up from the encounter.

Yeah, I agree. The wedding definitely didn't have any place to be there. I think it would have been better to concentrate on her feelings on what had happened, rather than "Oh, staying at my parents place makes me feel like a little girl again". And maybe also show how those feelings evolved in the future. It sounds kind of too reasonable for her to get over all of it because her parents gave such good advice. Or maybe they wanted to write her as a strong person in general, though I don't think any normal person will come out normal after this sort of incident. It ended too flowery. I really liked the story, and the fact that it didn't necessarily felt rushed. Like yeah, they could've built up more, but at the same I don't feel like there was a point of doing so. Like the well was in the garden for a long time now. They were very hungry, so waiting for a few more days, while Rosetta was right there in front of her, it would have been a mistake. And I think it would have been dreadful, not like in a horror way, but more like of a boring way. The detail about how the mermaid's hands were the wells puppeting her was really intriguing. I also really liked the end where she sacrificed herself. It really seemed to be more what someone may call horror. I really liked the twist of the legs. And "Rosetta" appearing in the well was also pretty creepy. And the talk between Cristopher and Eugene seemed really sweet. Christopher seemed rather calm about the news of Rosetta missing, but maybe because its the way he is. Overall, 7/10. Loved it really much! I also very much loved the three eyed cat

The problem with the wedding imo is that its entirely detached from the rest of the story. The wedding would make more sense if instead the 2 were engaged before the well showed up. So everything with the well is an intrusion rather than something that just happens before Chris proposes as an unrelated incident. Creating some thematic link or something might be nice but it'd basically require telling a completely different much more "dramatic" story. Even then it'd still be awkward to have Chris propose here. Its sort of a "non-story" placed right between the climax and the epilogue. Changing the prologue a bit to mention that the wedding is coming. Change one of the bad endings so that everyone looks for her because she didn't show up to something in preparation for the wedding (or the wedding itself). Maybe, she was supposed to talk to the caterer about the menu or something. I think it'd be a really strong change.

The monster in this game was based off of a type of mimic called a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing, which she references in her final dialogue. They use previous victims as puppets to lure you close enough for their grappling tentacles to drag you in. They move extremely slowly, but they can burrow underground so they can seemingly appear out of nowhere. I actually thought the pacing for the refusal to the hands out of the well was pretty spot on. I do agree about the demon's form (love the idea about the water being the true form and it puppeting the skeleton of Galatea after she's torn apart). I was mostly fine with the wedding, but I felt it went on for a bit too long. The Tiramisu twins give me vibes of characters that the creator wants to make a separate visual novel for and this is a sort of "prequel cameo" which is nice and all but I feel they took up too much of the wedding scene compared to the parents, Camilla, and Christopher. Maybe just have one of them come over in the middle of the conversation to say the camera is ready, then they can be in the photo.

I actually did have plans to give the Tiramisu siblings more focus in newer games (in particular, I had an idea involving Ariel and Dolores's [the hairball in Rosetta's wedding photo] wedding anniversary. I feel that that game's probably far off into the future since I suck at storytelling lol). In particular, the wedding scene was somewhat of my method to give payoff to all the character introductions Rosetta had set up in her initial questionnaire with Galatea. Ariel wasn't even supposed to show up at all initially, and was only included 'cause I felt bad about not giving him a design...

Love the cat and the designs, especially the wedding designs! The story branches were cool. I really liked how they mixed things up with character designs and story tropes. I was glad it wasn’t super straightforward. The suprise of the well being the monster stood out the most as the strongest thing ill remember from this game. It and the cat, lol. But the monster well, puppeting the body of it's last victim was really good! I look forward to their next game. ^^

This mermaid reminded me of an episode of a kids horror show I watched when I was a kid myself(it wasn't "Goosebumps" it was very similar to that), in which there was a sort of a curse that would turn you into a lizard if you were biten by someone that had thar curse and was already a lizard, and then got splashed with water... and then the one that passed you the curse would take your appearence and your life... the story of the curse seem very similar to that 😶

Not a sequel, this is the first game of its kind. The writing is design around taking advantage of RenPy's rollback feature, so you can roll back to a previous choice and see all the available lore. Perhaps I should've somehow made that more obvious.

​@@MadamePhotonIt's definitely a charming artstyle, world and story as is, but if you don't mind a bit of criticism: the best ending was really sappy in a good way--cute and heartwarming--when experienced the way Manly presented it, last, or after seeing at least one bad end, especially the "Legs to one" ending. But if a player gets the best ending on their first go, that ending is going to feel far too drawn out and lose it's appeal, or worse, make Rosetta look Mary Sue-ish when she's really not. While I like that the path to the best ending is logical, you only have 6 real choices/branches in this game, so getting the best ending first with how perfectly clean it is would feel rushed and unearned. Some other games can pull stuff like this off with even less branching paths, but usually they aren't strictly visual novels and can insert a gameplay segment which fills in for the sense of the protagonist's achievement or agency. The first half of the game is very well executed and does a good job of characterizing and giving the player a reason to care about Rosetta, but the second half would have really benefited from some extra choices, even if they just led back to "La Rosa Blue" ending, or some extra scenes detailing either the horror surrounding Rosetta or her terror to give the sense that Rosetta truly had to struggle and persevere to survive. Galatia's reappearance looks great, but the art of the arms invading the house and outright attacking Rosetta inside kinda fell flat. I think some more dynamic angles inside the house would have gone a long way in improving those scenes, or alternatively showing more damage to the house and implying a bit more speed like earlier with the blurred/focus. Though I must say, "Legs to One" is a fantastic horror/tragedy ending--seeing the characters Rosetta has gushed over grieving her and the implications of the well demon showing up to target them next with her corpse is an amazing gut punch!

I have a theory what if galatea is like a siren that lures people but instead of drowning humans she steals their legs and wishing to leave the well and that's why rosetta felt the need to go to the well because sirens are creatures that do a beautiful mermaid call pretending to be a beautiful a mermaid to drown the people that get any where near them Edit: wrote this before the second ending i was somewhat right but I like how this siren is using different people as vessels maybe the siren or creature uses different vessels to stay alive if not they will die

@MadamePhoton Yeah! Bathtub Mermaid is about a girl who is trapped in a relationship and trying to find the best in her situation. Being manipulated into giving all of herself to her significant other and abandoning her own life for them, only to end up trapped. After all, a mermaid in a bathtub is unable to truly do anything with her life. Rosetta is sung from the perspective of an abuser. They are telling the girl Rosetta how to live her life, and when she tries to run away, they tell her everyone will betray her and the only place she belongs is with them. Somebody who is extremely possessive and selfish and wants her all to themself. Camelia is a song about a physically and possibly sexually abusive relationship where the girl murders her partner after a violent bout. And is dealing with the trauma from the situation. The singer is their own mind trying to convince them that they did the right thing and telling them that they're stronger than they think they are. Camelia and Rosetta are also both, of course, flowers, and flowers represent purity. In both Rosetta and Camelia, the line "Don't let yourself corrupt" is inserted, suggesting there's a link between the two songs. Maybe Camelia is a direct sequel to Rosetta. Sorry for the text wall, Mili is my absolute favorite artist of all time lol.
