As children and has continued into adulthood, my brothers and I would each pick a starter. In most of the games, I have had every grass except Chespin and Grookey in the first playthroughs. It is interesting to hear what people did as kids, how they chose a starter if their siblings or friends played the games.

That would be way too easy tho. In a normal playthrough it's very unlikely that you even have 1000 Pokémon battles. So if aren't actually shiny-hunting for hours on end, the chances are pretty low that you actually encounter a shiny or, in this case, anything but a shiny.

7:05 Yes, my sister and I are like this. For 90% of the games I’ve always picked the fire starter and she’s always picked the grass starter. The only exceptions being Gen 2 and Gen 4 where we switched types and she picked the fire type instead! I’ve always just looked at it as Fire is always on of the rarest types to find in the wild and all the fire starters have amazing designs! ((I probably would’ve picked the fire type too in the other generations if it weren’t for the fact my sister pick it first))

Yeah, even if fire wasn't my favourite type, I'd probably often pick the fire starter. Especially cemented after the fiasco that was Sinnoh where you either had Rapidash or bust (and I just don't particularly like Rapidash). At least in plat, they added Flareon (lol), Houndoom (good) and Magmortar (also good, but iirc you got the evo item only off wild Magmar or something), which while better, still was very meager.

Maybe to lessen the "chaosity" as they put it, they can gain immunity for each badge they get. For example, since Mikey now has 1 badge, he now only resets back to Rustboro City on the 2nd shiny he sees.

Ooh, John, I had a suggestion for you! I love the concept of this video, but how to expand on it? Make it an extended, multivideo race! After beating a gym, you can save, so your reset point advances every time. First to beat Wallace (over the course of 8-10 videos, maybe!) is the true winner!

I usually pick the Fire starter, not because I hate the Grass or Water starters, but I just like the Fire starter better. My all time favorite starter is Infernape. I did, however, pick Chikorita in Soul Silver, Snivy in Black/White and Black/White 2 and Froakie in Y. I also plan on picking Sprigatito in Scarlet/Violet, so I do sometimes pick others. In fact, funny enough, Water is the starter I've picked the least. Which is ironic considering blue is my favorite color.

Wow! I never expected to hear something that instantly reminds me of my childhood while attempting my first nuzlocke (bet I'll regret it cause I get very attached to all my pokemon). Anyway, back when Sliver and gold came out, I finally got into Pokemon and was given Sliver for my birthday. My two older brothers were already into pokemon and were each given gold. I was a possessive little brat and didn't want to share my starter, thus demanding rules to our pokemon picks! After a game of rock-paper-siccors the order was set. First, my brother picked the fire type. Second, my eldest brother picked water type. So I, yes me, was left with Grass! For the next few years whenever I started any pokemon game (along with my brothers) we'd stick to our types. This did stop after my big brothers stopping playing the games after X and Y. Still though, I see grass starters as "mine". They hold a very unique place in my heart: that selfish little girl in me giggles when I pick the grass starter of any generation.

7:30 I usually rotate, just to give them all a shot in a play through, yes this also means I have used a Chicorita and it was hell, it instantly made the game hard mode xD. But in my first runs I have used all types, - Charmander in Red, Squirtle in Leaf green. - Totodile in Gold, because croco-boy, Cindaquil in soul silver. - Treecko in Ruby (because it looked cool), Mudkip in Alpha sapphire. - Chimchar in pearl (basicly a must in pearl, if you want a fire type and not be stuck with a Ponyta). (currently doing a re-play on Brilliant diamond and did choose a Piplup for this run). - Snivy in Black. - Tepig in White 2. - Froakie in X. - Rowlet in Sun. - Sobble in Sword. - Planning on using Fuecoco in either Scarlet or Violet (depends on which game a buddy of mine and I settle on (as I had sword last time and he picked shield)) because Croco-pepper-boy xD.

I always started with bulbasaur because he is the most logical starters for the first three gyms plus the caves because of pokemon like Onix and geodude, so yeah for me bulbasaur was my first ever choice specially in leaf green.

I chose bulbysaur (the actual spelling is less cute) because they're a little onion rascal and then I justified the choice retroactively with how breezy the first 3 gyms are by which point you can access plenty of new friends for your sassy medium sized ivysaur. I do generally default to grass starters but torchic was my first in ruby and I do choose non-grass starters sometimes.

Most of the starters I've picked are Water types (Mudkip, Oshawott, Popplio, Sobble, Quaxly) but Grass is not far behind in numbers (Bulbasaur, Turtwig, Chespin). Funny enough, my only Fire type pick (Cyndaquil) is the one that happens to be my favourite starter overall.

Matchup-wise, the grass starters aren't great for early game in most games. But design-wise, I prefer them.
