The problem with that mentality is that you don't realize that the boring, stable life you have is what makes travelling so fun and memorable. When you make travelling your life it quickly becomes a mundane thing and loses all it's magic, and all you're left with is a big headache and a desire to rest.

If working your 9-5 gives the most stability and best environment for raising your kids then I think that might be the most important. In my childhood my mom was a huge penny pincher, we werent rich, because she wanted us to travel the world. I was not happy only wearing hand me downs from other families and living in a messy dusty hoarder house. Every trip was just temporarily escaping our awful home life. What I am saying is that you have a family and try to find happiness in doing the best for them (especially the kids!!), even if it means your 9-5 is not giving you that fulfillment or meaning that you are looking for. Me personally I am never going to have kids. I am 28 years old and still havent decided much less worked on a path to success in my life yet.

Dorian, i been watching you for a while and i feel i need to tell you something. To be honest i think you are a little bit unstable. Once you said you wanted to escape 9-5 job and then you did it, start travelling. Then you said you understood that's not for you and you prefer stability. Then you came back to 9-5 and now you are saying you are escaping again. Of course you gonna do whatever you gonna do, but how do you know if that decision is not going to change? Im telling this from my own perspective - my constant change of plans actually brought more damage to my life than good, i would be in much healthier place if would stick to the same road for a long time. I hope you know what you are doing, wish you the best bro and remember that your work doesnt define you. Dont even listen what i say, i said you are emotionally unstable but if you know what you are doing, just dont care and enjoy you life. Peace!

Nobody knows you what you've been through, what you do on a daily basis, and where you heart is. Only you know those things, making YOU the only person who knows what's in your best interest. Nah man. When you work for others, you’re never “free”. You’re in ass kissing mode all the time. You just get used to it and it becomes more comfortable over time. That is the feeling of stability. You’re used to doing what you do and the cheques keep coming in. But all bets are off as soon as the people you’re ass-kissing start shitting the bed or sense you’re slacking.

@@mecanuktutorials6476 I never made an explicit association between working for others and gaining freedom. I just said you rarely get both. In other words. if you work for someone else, you lose freedom. If you work for yourself, you lose stability. Also, maybe you're in "ass kissing mode" when you work but that doesn't mean everyone else is. From my experience, most employers want someone who is reliable, respectful, and skilled. "Ass kissing" is just an insurance policy people employ to give them the illusion of job security.

Ah ok. Gotcha. I thought you were talking about working at a startup vs. a big established company. I joined a big company expecting it to be much better organized, 9-5 office schedule, with proper roadmaps, work breakdowns, and planning. In reality, it’s the same as the startup life but with more status updates and meetings and ironically, more chaos. I just brought up the “ass kissing” stuff because it’s the best description of what working for someone is. You’re not working with them, you’re working for them. And often, they’ll reward/fire you based on their expectations and impression rather than your actual contribution; nobody is really tracking you but each year you have to justify your existence during the Evaluation.

Go chase what lights a fire in you, and then I realized it was more of you easing yourself into what seems a crazy move. I subscribed to you a couple of months back through one of your coding videos. I too was chasing that stability caused by fear. 26 and feeling a deep void still in university. I came to see its a feeling that won't improve until you pursue what your heart deeply yearns. You are pursuing that now. I've come to enjoy your channel more as you've shared the human side of Dorian. Dorian, I've been watching your videos for a while and followed your whole previous "escapade" from the 9-5 you had previously. IMHO, I think there's a healthier balance you can get, spend half a year traveling and half a year in the US, while keeping yourself "independent" (not "succumbing" to the 9-5 lifestyle). Traveling is great, I love it, but it's one thing to travel for a couple of months, it's a whole different game when we're talking about traveling years on end. I think you're seeing this with rose tinted glasses, at least from what you present to us in the video, I absolutely believe you can keep being "your own boss" but beware of travel burnout and it's effects on your loved ones, peace!

The people who are in the highest positions are the most insufferable workaholics who make everyone else’s life hard. They actually have a joy in controlling everything. I prefer being hands off. If I were a manager I’d just delegate and trust while spending my time actually managing expectations of my own management.

Taking risks, traveling and exploring every avenue of life you can imagine is definitely an honorable way to live. But I would also take into consideration the fact that you’re not happy where you are, and a plethora of people can only dream to be in your position. So we have to be mindful of whether or not we’re as grateful as we should be with what we have. I’m not saying be content and stop wanting more. As long as you put your family first and they’re on board to support you in your path of discovery, I think you’re on the right track and you have the right mindset. But if every other year you’re wanting to make extravagant changes, you have to stop and think where is the mind of the people around you and how they feel about that. Mate - I would suggest you have a stable life at this age. Not saying it out of any sort of bias but saying it purely based on biological needs of your body (as you reach 30+). Eg. As you travel a lot - you eat foods that your body is not used to having regularly - that puts a lot of stress on it as your gut bacteria needs to adjust to the changes again and again. There are several other genetic ailments that come as you go 30+. Examples of genetic ailments that come with age include - heart disease, diabetes, ailments relating to nervous system. You may want to ensure that your genetic ailments keep in check. You may also want to think about your dependents and what they may have to go through because of your choices. In this day and age of social media - there is a lot of FOMO around which is making a lot of people like you and me make choices that aren't really good for us and for the society. Please give it a thought.

Agree on the FOMO part especially with social media. It can be hard to determine what you really want instead of following the crowd. But the US is not where it’s at for nutrition and health (processed foods, less walkable, more sedentary). And I can imagine kids will learn a lot more when traveling instead of sitting for 8 hours at school. If you homeschool then it’s a win win.

@@amalmohamed635 whether it be usa or anywhere else in the world - your gut bacteria needs to adjust with the local foods you eat. In addition to that - if you are 30 plus - you especially need stability to ensure your health is in check. Kids won't learn too because they need exposure to all subjects taught at school to decide what they want to be in later years. Travelling only exposes them to history, geography and some amount of science. Living your life off of travelling is the worst decision anyone can make in their 30s. To be honest, it's worst in any age. There is a reason why people travel during vacations - because that gives them a change from real life.
