Funny, my life of frugality began because it was the early 70's and the oil shortage cause Mother Earth to run an article about waste. I was stunned by the amount of oil it took to create one cotton shirt from seed to purchaser. It also went on to say people were donating perfectly good clothing to thrift stores... With fear and trepidation I began to shop to 'save the planet'. I must say, it became a habit to look for what I needed at thrift/resale /classified ads first. After a couple of years I suddenly realized, I was not just saving the planet, I was enjoying myself and saving money for the BIG THINGS. I ended up debt free and owning everything including my home by the time I was 42. I am decades older now, but still shop at the salvage grocery/drygoods and equipment places. I picked the right place to retire early and I am STILL SAVING, I JUST CANNOT STOP. I don't have much to spend money on now. People, encourage me to BUY THINGS... I drive old vehicles, still cut wood to use in my wood stove. Live a live that others shake their heads at because it can be strenuous... But I am in perfect health mentally and physically. Frugality makes people FREE...

Maybe that's how you'll reach a wider audience, showing the feelings you get with each frugal move you make. Asking for comments. Answering questions online. Having guests that are regular ppl that attained a goal. When I first ran across your videos, the Prepper name made me think you were going to speak about freeze dried food for the Apocalypse. Instead, I found someone who LIKED used and free stuff. You seemed gruff, ready to fix all those stupid ppl. I found it unappealing, but your msgs were spot on, so I tuned in here and there. Since you kept that car for sentimental reasons and then got Nala, you seem calmer, softer, relatable, even glowing. Keep making these brilliant videos. You have another loyal fan here, Princess.

My house is paid off, no cc debt, no car payment and I max out my contribution to my pension every year. I have always looked for deals and best prices, have gone to good will ( a lot of times the stuff is brand new), and live on a budget. Sometimes I guess it’s what u observe when growing up. Parents were always broke, bills paid late, and they both worked. That made me think, and I’ve been frugal ever since. I don’t give a fig either. Nobody else is going to pay your bills! I am not as frugal as you, but in my youth, I was while I was raising my daughter, I had absolutely no money to shop at thrift stores. So I made clothes for her and myself out of clothes other people gave me because they knew I could turn it into something new! I spent a lot of time in the desert gathering things to turn into wall hangings and sold them at swap meets. This was in the 60's and 70's. I dumpster dived and collected cans and bottles. Most of the time we wore no shoes and I made her coats of many colors. I spent $10 a week on food and we never ate out. Miraculously, I was hired at an aero space company because people told me to apply who understood I had skills they were looking for. What? You may ask, and so did I. During the interview I was asked what I had done. I had no answer except to stand up and model what I was wearing. Shocked, the man asked, "What are you doing?". I was so embarrassed because I immediately realized I failed the interview...that no body really cares about home made things. I said, I made this, and fell silent. The man sat back in his chair and said, If you can do that, you can do anything I give you! And he hired me on the spot. I was trained and made a living for myself and my daughter. I saved for retirement and spent much more money than I should have on clothes and luxuries because I had never had more than 1 pair of shoes or three sets of clothes in my life. And I wanted my daughter to enjoy her youth and not be deprived anymore. But the one thing that always stuck with me was to be a pepper for the lean times. I have always kept more food and supplies than I need, because I know from experience what it is to live without and be hungry. I have continued to be thrifty. I drive a 17 yr old Jeep and just gave my daughter my 24 yr old Jeep. Both are well maintained. Once a year I buy myself 2 denim ankle length jumpers that I can wear winter with long sleeved knitted dresses underneath for extra warmth. In the summer, I wear them just under garments for the summer. Spring and fall I wear a sweater on top. I wear them until they start falling apart and then patch them enough to keep wearing in the garden and painting. I joke that people think I wear the same dress everyday, and I do, just a different one. It has become a signature that people remember. What ever they think, is fine with me. I just keep on prepping and to the outside world I appear to be living on the fringes of poverty, which is far from the truth. I am going to read your posts about credit card rewards. What you did is eye popping!

@@Scriptorsilentum Was former homeless many years ago. She came across an encampment. More than likely the homeless were given notice of a clean up, offered services like shelters and sober living places. Many homeless will return to their camps after a clean up...occasionally, one of us homeless would come across a campsite or belongings or backpack. Sometimes we knew the person that it belonged to. That person could have been longterm arrested-jail time, or picked up by the law and sent to a mental health institution. Sometimes, they are mentally Ill and forget their belongings. Or sometimes they move on, leaving their belongings behind for a person in need. General rule in my homeless area, was to leave the items or campsite alone for a few days. If the campsite, belongings start accumulating dust, rain or leaves, that seems to be the definite, acceptable sign the owner of the belongings is not going to return. Thank you so much for ALL of your posts! I've been watching them for quite awhile & each one teaches me something, even though I THOUGHT I was doing my best before. I now barely ever buy anything new, live on a very low income but stay out of debt, lost excess weight (after paying attention to your talking about portion sizes) so I can now actually FIT into really nice thrift store clothes. I live simply and contentedly. When the electricity went down recently I only woke up long enough to plug my CPAP into my little Jackery and went back to sleep. No more going out alone on ice or in a rainstorm at o-dark-thirty to set up a gas generator! Also, after barely affording more than chicken, I took your tips on grocery shopping and had a delicious roast today from a recent early morning grocery haul with 'just reduced' meats as per your advice. Paid maybe $35 for a cart full of roasts, steaks, country style ribs, and even burger patties that went directly into the freezer yet again. I'm about to go for 3 months of spending nothing for groceries other than maybe milk for my coffee & some raw veggies, so I can make up for spending savings on an unexpected expense...and I can do it thanks to you, because I've followed you long enough to have a well stocked pantry of essentials that were purchased inexpensively from weekly 'loss leaders' at local grocery stores. A week doesn't pass that I don't recommend your channel to several people who need the same info. You taught this thrifty 66 year old widow that she didn't know as much as she thought before. Though I live on practically half of what I used to, I am surviving, and live thankful and content with what I have. Back in the day when coupons were still being clipped from the paper, I started a bank account for only the money I saved using coupons. I figured I wouldn't have the money anyway if I didn't use the coupons...I would be giving it to the cashier. I saved for a few years...a few dollars here and there. I would check my receipt and throw that amount in a jar...then take it to the bank after a while. Then one day a friend asked me if i would like to go on a cruise. I went to that account and my coupon money paid for my first cruise AND my air flight. Oh people laughed a me for my coupon cutting -- I don't care.

My 80 yr old mom says the rudest things and she gets away with so much. I call it her old lady charm. I also do not care what people think even though they think I should. A couple days ago I went to the hardware store with the ‘helpful’ folks to buy a new cartridge for my sink faucet. I knew the part number and I have the owners manual. I was told that the handle needs to be screwed down. I said no, the handle is fine and I want to replace the cartridge because it no longer turns on the water. I was then told they couldn’t get me a new one since I didn’t bring in the old one. I gave him the brand and series and that I could give him the part number too. So he looks it up and I finally get to buy it. Then he says to me that he was a plumber and would not have repaired my old faucet and recommended I buy a new one and how frugal did I need to be? Oh, and did I mention this guy looked to be in his 70’s so I guess he can say whatever he wants and I can listen or not. My faucet works great now.

I make sure to always like your videos. I don’t always comment, but I will . Way to go with the phone that is amazing and I don’t blame you for being proud of that. Not many people can pull off a free very expensive phone just from working the system and taking the time it takes to do it. Pretty awesome ! I think you have a lot to share that we can all learn from and I know in 2023 my husband and I are going to do as close to a no spend year as we can. Definitely a low spend year , and no spend in many categories. I think it’s amazing you can live on so little and I don’t find it depressing at all. I find how you live extremely inspiring. I definitely appreciate your channel very much and will be leaning on your videos a lot next year as we tighten our belts and learn to live on a lot less money. Not because we have to but because we want to to save for retirement. We want to learn to live way below, our means.

At one time i worried about what people thought, I would try to hide my frugality keeping brand name boxed and bottles to refill, hide my cheap used phone. But, after I had a severe car accident, having to learn to do basic tasks all over again, I realized who cares what people think. Life is too short to worry about what people think, and I've been way happier for it.

Lately my granddaughter has been telling me the same thing and I get it! If I see someone being rude or unkind to anyone...I say it like it is and I DON'T CARE! My Irish grandmother used to say, "Just as well for them to be mad as it is for me!" and "Love me, Love my cat!" I used to think that was so shocking, but now I understand she had seen enough of life to not be timid or apologetic when she witnessed people being rude or down right mean.

Reminds me of something that happened many years ago. We were leaving church and were walking to our car when I noticed a car back out of a parking space and almost run into a car traveling behind it. Fortunately, the other driver was able to avoid a collision. The driver of the car backing out was an older gentleman who was a member of the church who probably shouldn't have been driving anymore. Someone commented that he was of the mindset that "I'm old and I'm backing up!" I'm now a senior (soon to be 66 years old) and I hope that when any good sense that I may have now is no longer observable in my speech and actions, my family will call it to my attention and correct me. I know I won't like it, but I don't want to be a jerk, regardless of my age.

You manage to present a serious issue-finances- in an interesting and humorous way. I am glad you don't care what others say. (and why do they have to comment negatively?) Congrats on the phone! Thank you--your videos have given me a new outlook on spending--it isn't about affordability or lack, it's about CHOOSING to not spend so much money on so much useless $hit. And to find ways to spend less money--or no money, on things you value and need. And how you end the videos with Rocky & Nala is priceless. Nala's face! Soooo cute! My pittie used to bring a shoe to the living room--but when I guess I didn't get the hint, she buried it in the backyard. Still haven't found it--had to buy new walking shoes.

Yep. I'm an old introvert, 73, and value my time alone to do things that matter to me. My friends have to call me...even my daughter. And everyone wonders how I get so much done and how I had the time to learn and work on so many skills and subjects. It's even been said, if you want to know something go ask Marie. That's what the benefit of being an introvert is. And you never feel alone! Hang in there and appreciate your own special perceptions.

I am 59 and don't give a crap. BUT I have to watch my mouth. As far as frugality goes, yes I have people say things, but it's mostly those that don't have anything because they BLOW every penny they got!! In the last 5 years I have paid off every debt, including my house. I don't get regular haircuts or all the things that people do to foo foo themselves up. I don't buy new clothes. I don't go anywhere that isn't necessary. For December I have spend 44 dollars on gas. My roommate (yes I have a roommate in my paid off house) drives so much she has filled up her gas tank at least 4 times this month. She is retired, she was talking about getting a job. I told her "you don't need a job, you need a budget". Anyway. I save my money for things I enjoy. I went on a cruise in June.. 5 days for 450 total out the door and back. I got a very last minute cruise!! And I am going to Mexico in March. My delta sky miles saved up will get me there for free and I have contacts there that will make it a very inexpensive vacation.

That is a great classic truth " You don't need a job...you need a budget." i have a feeling that many folks would not need to get a second job ... if they crafted a reasonable budget. Discipline is a beautiful thing.
