Ipads are great for sketching too! I use the Procreate app, and it's like using a scaled down version of Photoshop. And Mal can save and upload directly to Patron if she wants to get feedback from her patrons. There are so many possibilities! Can't wait to see what she does.

I'm super thrilled for Mal getting an iPad! If she gets Procreate, she'll be painting digitally in ways she... well she probably knows and looks forward to. It's a really great app, it gets a lot of use on my iPad. I also have Clip Studio but it doesn't get as much use. It's not bad, but I think I'm still confused how it handles storing it's images and such. Mysteries! And yes, Sagan has learned from you. You start talking, he starts talking. ;)

Stephen, you give gifts like my mother does. She gives you the tiniest confusing components of things and then finally gives you the last one as a final surprise. She wrapped my 3DS in a hairdryer box and I unwrapped it and was like "Well, this is a little weird but yeah my hairdryer does suck so that's nice!" And then I opened it and it was definitely not a hairdryer.

I'm a Samsung user. Both with my tablet and cell phone. I typically use my tablet just to stream to my chrome device for KZbin, Hulu, Netflix, and twitch. I also have games for when I'm bored so that they don't take up space on my phone. Also happy anniversary to you guys! StephenPlays has been my goto this summer and I love all of your content. Something useful for Mal is the screenshot button on the Nintendo Switch. It lets you instantly take a photoof whatever's on screen when the button is pressed, in the full quality of whatever is being shown already. I'm not an artist, but I've captured some pretty beautiful scenes with it.

I love how if the ipad had been opened first it'd have been surprising, but instead it was just opened in the entirely wrong order to reveal and then confirm the gift before she saw it, making it more hilarious than exciting, but still very enjoyable content. Once Mal mentioned your drawing tablet, it reminded me of the glorious Pokemon bios in Leaf Green. Which is leading me to wish for your next Pokemon LP. Oh well, in time. :P I have an iPad mini 2, and my mom has an iPad 4th gen. It was super beneficial for my mom because of the larger screen to zoom in on text and pictures. For me, I mostly use it to watch videos, take notes and sketch, or edit documents with a bluetooth keyboard (sometimes I'd rather bring an iPad mini instead of my laptop out in public). I'm glad that Mal is enjoying her new iPad, I can't wait to see some sketches if possible! :)

I actually have the samsung galaxy tab s3 which is basically the samsung equivalent of the ipad pro and it is such a great tool. comes with a pen so i can sketch even though im not an artist in any way and its also great for light photo editing and media consumption. Stephen, you have bought hands down the best gift for an artist like Mal.

I have a Microsoft Surface. I really like that it runs full Windows and is basically a laptop. Makes it more intuitive to use. I mainly use it as a secondary computer and for note taking at school.

I still have the original iPad. I largely use it for when I can't really use my phone, like on airline trips to download some books and all my music. I got grandfathered unlimited 3g so that's pretty useful.

My husband and I mostly use it to watch KZbin and Netflix. I watch stuff while cooking a lot and he uses it when he does the dishes. We also don't have a TV in the bedroom so sometimes we snuggle up in bed and watch stuff all comfy. I love using my ipad pro for like sketching and even illustrations! Mal if you’re reading this I highly recommend the the app Procreate, it’s a bit of a learning curve but it’s real good, and if you’re not into that then photoshop is coming in 2019 I think for the iPad.

For me you can't beat having printed reference images. I bought a tablet "to use for reference while drawing", and it ended up being a step down from just having physical paper references that you could easily grab, switch between, compare side-by-side. On top of that, it felt like it messed with my colour perception while looking from it to my drawing and back. As beautiful as colours show on it, there's still an adjustment your eyes need to make when coming back to real life, which is a pretty important issue if you are working with colours. So to answer your question, "What do you use it for?"... I use it to play a ton of casual games, browse the net and of course watch StephenVlog :)

So this is what happened on my birthday! You guys are honestly the best and, this sounds weird, but goals! I have a Kindle Fire tablet that I won in a contest, but I rarely use it and would rather have an iPad or a SurfacePro because then I could use it to take notes for school instead of bringing out my laptop. I barely even read books on my Fire; I just use the Kindle app on my phone, so at this point I should really just sell it. I am saving up to get a new MacBook because my MacBook Air, while fine, does not have the photo or video processing power I need and I’m looking to upgrade before school starts. Like I got the Air back in 2015 and you’d think it would still be fine for what I need for school, but the amount of lagging and overheating I deal with to even work on photos, let alone edit a video, is insane and frustrating.

Mal, if you like Photos hop on the computer, you need to download Clip Studio Paint on the iPad. It's free to download so you can try it out, and get six months of free premium features. It's practically a desktop app.

Don't forget the intro to lunch bunch. I have a Kindle Fire HD 7 tablet from 2013 and a Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet from 2016 (which is broken.) I'm going to get an iPad at some point. I do occasionally use an Air 2 at my school so I'm not completely unfamiliar...but I by no means have any idea what I'm doing with it. Let me know how yours is, Mal, please!!

I have the original iPad Air. Got it back in 2014 (although I had to get a replacement due to a battery issue in 2016) and OH WOW the performance on it has gone down the drain in the transition from iOS 7 to iOS 11. I really hope iOS 12 makes good on its promise to improve performance on legacy devices because if the input lag and loading times get any worse I'd venture to call the thing basically unusable.

I have my iPad air updated to the iOS 12 beta, and it has made a significant difference on performance. It's obviously not as fast as anything that has the newer processors, but it's ultimately helped a bunch.
