@@zaladaneifyable Anne was raised as a Catholic, but she helped push Henry towards the idea of breaking with Some. Part of what drove Henry to eventually dispense with Anne was her continual meddling in affairs (of state and otherwise)--something which he warned Jane against doing.

I think Catherine Parr cared for King Henry but yeah, she wasn't in love with him. How could anyone be after what he did to his previous wives? As for Henry, he was already very sick and weak by the time he married Parr and needed someone he could trust to take care of him.

It's supposed to signify that she's probably the most mature queen Henry has had since his first wife Catherine of Aragon. Especially in contrast to his immature previous wife Katherine. Henry didn't seem to marry Parr out of lust like he normally does, but simply because she was suitable.Besides Catherine of Aragon she was the only one to act as Regeant while Henry was away. Anne Boleyn would have been capable of this also, but likely would have gotten herself killed even faster since everyone hated her. She was way to outspoken.

Katherine Parr's my favorite of the six wives--shrewd, intelligent, compassionate, caring=she's the PERFECT stepmother. None of Henry's children had an issue with her. Out of Henry's wives I had the most compassion for Jane Seymour. She was loving, tender, modest, intelligent= the stepmother Mary always wanted and she died after she gave birth. Jane Seymour deserved better.

Hannah Dyson : From everything known of Jane I cannot believe she would intentionally shun Elizabeth, wish her harm or blame her for Anne’s transgressions (which she probably knew were false anyway.). Young royals were rarely brought to court to protect their health. Henry largely ignored Elizabeth due to his resentment of Anne. It’s plausible that, had she lived longer, Jane would have encouraged Henry to accept Elizabeth.

Such an underrated character. Even Catherine Howard has more fans even though she's only a child with no interesting attributes. Catherine Parr on the other hand is an amazing woman. I never understood why she's not admired like Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, or Jane Seymour. She is intelligent and has a political figure just like Catherine. She shares similar values to Anne. And she acts obedient to keep her head just as Jane did. She's the combination of all the women Henry ever loved. I think he chose her as his final five because he felt guilty for all the things he did to his past wives. He made amends by marrying Catherine Parr. Also, it is known that Catherine of Aragon was the godmother of Catherine Parr and Parr was named after her. The connection between them and the fact that their character is so similar may indicate that Henry went through all those wives just to end up with one just like CoA. I think he considered CoA as his one true love and loved her more than anyone else.

I also think it was due to the church and their influence. Henry was clearly Protestant by the time of his marriage to Catherine Parr. Of course, filmed in a modern American accent so that it can be understood by a modern audience. I wonder what the conversation really sounded like. Probably incomprehensible without subtitles.

It’s an interesting thought isn’t it? I’ve often wondered how much we’d be able to understand. I’ve seen pictures of some of their letters and can really only decipher a handful of words.

Actually the Tudors, had most British actors and was mostly in British accent... At least if I remember.

I doubt it would have been incomprehensible. They spoke modern English, the language of Shakespeare. They weren't still speaking old or middle English. Also, I don't think you meant to say "modern American accent." This has nothing to do with American or accents.

@@kendralynn897 If you can understand Shakespeare, then you could certainly understand Henry VIII! They were all speaking and writing modern English. Now if it had been Old English, yes, that would be difficult for us. Middle English would have been easier, but still challenging. Chaucer wrote in Middle English.

@@SR-iy4gg why, yes! Of course, I studied Shakespeare, and other autors of that era. I didn't find it particularly difficult. The pronunciation of some words has changed, but mainly it's easily comprehensible.
