"Tonight I dine on turtle soup.." I heard that line a lot growing up as a TMNT fan in the early 90's..had a lot of the 80's VHS tapes for them too..can't tell you how many old wooden broomsticks my grandpa turned into a bo for me to use as a kid either. I played this game to death..think I still have the cartridge kicking around somewhere..if not I'll have to get it again at some point. Turtles holds a special place in my heart, it actually was what got me interested in ninja back in the day and one of my "wtf" moments as a kid was finding one of the more..teen oriented comics..ya know..classic TMNT. I was so used to the campy 80's cartoon that when I saw a comic in the magazine section at a local Bi-Lo (if THAT don't date it nothing will..there isn't even one around anymore as they closed up shop last year for good) that had Mikey bleeding and cussing that it shocked the hell outta me as a kid.

Now...? It's Pachislot all day everyday and the occasional port compilation of their older games like Castlevania...they haven't done anything really new console wise in a long while to my recollection. I heard they were trying to get back in the console market as they've been having some funds trouble but I 1) don't know how true that is and 2) if it is true how old it was at this point. Most I've seen from them is said ports.
@phabiorules
@phabiorules 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShinKyuubi I think it's probably true. Pretty much what happened was that Konami decided to stop making games so they could focus on their Pachinko machines (which were always far more profitable). This was fine until Covid happened and Japan closed down all Pachinko parlors. Them making new games is them realizing they need to diversify their portfolio, so even though we only have collections now, we will most likely get new games in the coming years.

@@edwardgregorio9754 Asska and War are generally weak. They both have a decent MU against Shredde, but lose hard to most other characters. From there, you have mid tiers and up. Leo is considered also rather unimpressive by some, but some people push this character nicely. I'd say Arm, Raph, Mike, Wnut and CDome are pretty insane. There's a lot of RPS MUs in this game, which makes it great. Every character more or less has a counter in some form or another.

I would play for hours, with Shredder, Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, Karai, & War being my favorites. And Shredder being OP here is no surprise. The deflection move Shredder has to send projectiles back to the user was a great equalizer when mastered. Fun facts: War is actually a character in the TMNT adventures comics, being one of four aliens who were called the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. Aska was supposed to be Mitsu from the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III film, but got changed into an original character due to the film's bad reception.

This is by far the best version of Tournament Fighters out of the 3. However, you really have to acknowledge Tournament fighters as a whole. This is one of the few examples (& probably the best one for it’s time at that) where a game can be made for multi-platforms yet each version is radically different from each other. Also the NES version is one of the few if not the only fighting game actually released for the console too. I’ve been saying this for years but this franchise needs a remake/reboot. Would buy the shit out of it.

We need a whole-ass TMNT fighting game for modern platforms. And I know this sounds clichè as fuck... but Arc System Works should make it. They do the whole "it looks 2D, but its really 3D" thing too well, and I feel like that's kind of what a TMNT fighting game would need. Maybe make it a celebration of the franchise, with all sorts of nods and homages to various iterations. The potential it could have would be insane.

For me, it sounded like shredder was saying "Wahd crusher" and i always found that noise he makes during the tiger knee move to be funny.

SNES version for me, but it was purely from rentals. I probably rented it myself about 3 times; but me and my friends back then used to split rental costs from time to time and rented games to play them together too. In the end I think I rented this game about 10 times over maybe just one year. At the time I was a mega TMNT fan and this game topped the list of fighters on consoles along with Alpha 2 (SNES), MK2 and UMK3 (SNES). I actually preferred Tournament Fighter over regular Street Fighter 2 / SF2 Turbo (with the exception of Alpha 2). They truly had something good in their hands with this game, they should have continued with this and improved it 'Turbo' style like SF2 had. But I suspect that it never happened simply because it didn't sell enough, and the competition was too strong (obviously SF and MK were the kings at the time).

For anyone unaware and curious: The reason Max says "Kevin Nash as Shredder" is in reference to the second Ninja Turtle live action film. Secret of the Ooze, where Shredder becomes Super-Shredder. The professional wrestler Kevin Nash (all 7 foot of him) played Super Shredder in that film.

Can't forget that SNES Tournament Fighter's Shredder blessed us with the absolute classics in Cyber Shredder and Psycho Shredder for MUGEN. Those two have been mainstays for most of MUGEN's existence.

@AT Productions Yeah but not to the point where either Capcon or SNK felt threatened. You couldn't say this about something like Data East's Fighter's History. That was so similar that they got into a legal battle over Capcom over it.
