“You Haven’t Stopped Talking!” Julia Hartley-Brewer’s Fiery Clash Over The Case For Net Zero

TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer has clashed with political economy professor Michael Jacobs over the case for Net Zero.
Michael says the reason for high inflation is due to “the reliance on fossil fuels”.
Julia says: “We use a lot more gas in the heating of our homes… One of the greatest loves of my life my gas central heating, which the Government wants to take away from me.”
Michael counters: “You can’t have both of those sentences together, Julia. You can’t say the reason we have high inflation is because we use a lot of gas and then complain that we’re trying to move away from renewables.”
Julia continues: “When the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine, it’s not reliable!”

Surely his point was to increase our reliance on renewables and therefore make ourselves less reliant on fossil fuels and the volatility of international markets. He even recognised the need to maintain a fossil fuel backup in case of reduced supply. We need a coherent strategy to meet current and future energy supplies which cannot for climate and economic reasons be tied to fossil fuels. The debate needs to move on from calling out some climate activists or right wing mouth oil living mouth pieces and become adult. Problem is we are not good at adult debate.

@@ryescott9445 Hydraulic fracturing in the UK is banned, so the UK imports hydraulic fractured natural gas from the USA, with huge amounts of money leaving the UK. There could be as much as 300 years supply of natural gas under our feet, which could make the UK one of the richest countries in the world. Natural gas is a great fuel for not only making electricity, but it can easily power petrol and diesel vehicles with a cheap conversion. The UK could be a massive energy exporter. The natural gas in the UK is probably the only way to save the UK economy. UK CO2 emission are one part in a million of the atmosphere, replacing oil with natural gas would reduce that tiny, completely insignificant amount of CO2 by about 20%; whereas net zero won't work and will plunge the UK into poverty. All major political parties are committed to destroying Britain, sadly it looks like the will succeed.

If Michael Jacobs wants to be taken seriously, he needs to address criticism of Net Zero policies and contemplate its use as an instrument to steal wealth (e.g. compulsory closure of Dutch farms as instigated by WEF and EU) and to restrict freedom (e.g. 15 minute cities). They are already using diesel generators to make wind turbines turn when there is no wind, so they are using fossil fuels to make so called cheaper renewable fuel that is unreliable, no wonder fuel prices have gone up, we are footing the cost of net zero. They then show how much electricity is produced by wind turbines but neglect to show the extra fossil fuel they used to create the renewable energy. It's literally a scam and the results are misleading, and just like all the covid scaremongering they want the public to argue about it , because some people still seem to believe these corrupt specialists.

Inflation is a Government policy - it’s created by increasing debt which is a feature of a debt based fiat monetary system. @Mark Smith Are you sure ? The first pound was borrowed into existence and to pay that loan off you must borrow two into existence. Debt can only go up until it can’t and then the currency fails. Why do central banks and Governments do that ? Because that’s the system they have created and it makes us slaves to the debt payment - either by private loans or Government borrowing. It’s essentially a Ponzi scheme which transfers wealth; the Government are both the borrowers-on our behalf- and debt collectors for the central bank. They can collect debt two ways; the first through direct taxes and the second through the hidden mechanism of monetary inflation by which they can extract wealth and blame it on ‘profiteering’ and ‘greed’.
@Tenebrousable

@@MarkSmith-yx5oz Governments want to keep spending, without corresponding tax raises, for politicians to get votes. Inflation also benefits the biggest debtee, the government, by crushing it's value. Nevermind that all of debt is someone's pension plan. With inflation, our expenses go up, for most everyone, always before and faster our incomes. With inflation, the private sector grows more poor, on average. The rich do get richer, because they have assets that benefit in price, and debt, that goes down in value. So that's nice.

Gas prices were going up way before the Ukraine war, and if prices were up because of Ukraine then profits wouldn't be. Additionally, currently we are reliant on pver seas suppliers for solar panels, so renewables would still be vulnerable to global shocks.

I think we have just seen the reason for the dire economic situation after the overspend in the "pandemic" as this guy was "Former adviser to the Chancellor". I think he should have kept that quiet. But his self importance is apparent. The reason inflation is high is due to supply chain inefficiency, which is due to high road fuel taxes, (cost of going to work for the public) increase in vehicle taxation by 10%, insurance increases, and also the personal taxation bands being frozen which means more people are paying more tax. Prices have risen , taxes have increased and net wages have NOT increased. This guy is mistaken when we have just heard that in Scotland they have had to use DIESEL generators to keep the wind turbines going. How is that "renewable" ? Lithium batteries for EV's and the cost of EV's is extortionate. Net zero is a fantasy for the weak minded.

This guy kept saying that gas prices are susceptable to shock volatility, well that hasn't been the case for many decades in the Uk. Gas price has increased but not to the absurd level it is now, so until a certain Russian lunatic fcuked things up it was fine! And what are these backups to so called 'renewables' he kept mentioning?! I hope he doesn't think battery banks are the answer, because they most definitely are not! For hours of darkness and when there is little wind, there are only 2 currently viable sources of grid energy delivery, gas and nuclear, with gas by far the major contributor as our nuclear capacity is low. Also, I wish Julia would tackle the energy companies on why the standing charge is so outragiously high?! In fact, why is there even a standing charge?

Julia is right. Michael assumes there will be a fully functioning gas supply industry supplying a liquid market, setting a reliable price of gas. He assumes this will be available to dip into as "back-up", whenever called upon by lack of renewables. But his renewable ideal is supposed to get rid of dependency on gas, and the gas industry, and therefore contradicts the existence of a liquid, well-supplied gas market. He cannot have both: he cannot get rid of the large well-supplied gas market, and then rely on a well-supplied gas market whenever it suits. Anything that tries to achieve these contradictory objectives will be extremely expensive, because it has to contain all of the functionality and reserve of an under-utilised massive gas supply industry. Gas exploration, extraction, gas field operations, storage, pipes to get it to power stations ... the lot! Michael claims to be an energy analyst, but he doesn't understand energy. He's not alone - there are many like him.

Backups require MAINTENANCE of the plants and access to the fuel. Using renewables is simply gauche... when you could use something more reliable and cheaper, you instead switch to 'renewables' which demand a backup fuel as insurance. Ridiculous.
