To be fair, most of the time in movies when the threat is above and they fail to look up, it's because the people entering the room are used to normal threats, IE checking corners for bad guys with guns and not crazy paranormal ceiling-hiding baddies. By contrast Hellboy is used to the weird shit.

This is such a great interaction between the two characters, Hellboy and Manning; they've been antagonistic the entire movie and then at the end of this mutual fight Manning offers sincere advice instead of being a shit.

It's also a great moment because Hellboy always hid his smoking from his father, in Hellboy 1 he was kind of a child in terms of his personality, hiding his smoking like a delinquent teen. Now, in this moment, he gets to meet with a sort of 'father figure' (even an authoritative one) as an equal, and receive advice about something he enjoys. It's a nice bit of closure to their interaction with each other. They respect and understand one another now

this entire scene is just beautiful - Kroenen listen to classical music - Hellboy got his revenge - Manning act like a normal up standing civilian, got slash and literally just ask :"what wrong with you" - Manning actually give us the world greatest advice on how to smoke a cigar - The bond between Manning and Hellboy is not just boss and employee this is why i love del Toro Hellboy, he approach it like an actually comic adaptation ( cheesy line, character act like they are in another episode of the show ) rather than go full on superhero movie

Maning being forced into the field gave him actual appreciation of what Hellboy did and an understanding that doing it clean and by the book, especially fighting these supernatural things, is a detriment to doing the job. He becomes more of a humanizing factor for Hellboy and Hellboy gives him perspective on with the things out there, things like him are necessary.

Thing is tho I don't think it would have worked story wise if I remember and please correct me if I am wrong I don't think there was much stuff to do about the Occult and the supernatural it was more mechanized than spiritual I think it would break that story if they didn't have supernatural and demonology stuff in the beginning of Wolfenstein 1 and then you try to bring it into Wolfenstein 2 it would be confusing the only one I remember that had supernatural things was Wolfenstein the Old Blood with the zombies if they continued that in 1 and 2 it would have made sense and been awesome to see

Such a great scene in the movie. I really enjoyed how they each needed each other in the encounter. Otherwise it wouldn’t have turned out good for either one
