My Filipina was the oldest of four. She went to Hong Kong for 15 years and sent money home to build a house and build a Sari Sari store for her parents. She wanted to have a little baby girl at 37 years old. That was NOT going to happen there. I rescued her and brought her to Canada where she got her wish. Our baby girl is now 15 years old. Living the dream!

Sounds like my friends mother. She worked two job in the US so she could build a huge home for her mom, aunt's and cousins. Supported them for 20 years. But she finally put a stop to it when she took me out to meet and visit them. She found out her uncle and adult nephews, spent their days in the guest house sleeping, smoking, eating and making messes for her mom to clean up. So she told them she was done supporting them. She gave them one month to get off their butts and work. Best thing she ever did! They now work and contribute as well as help fix up the place. It was starting to fall apart before she did that.

A couple of Filipino families here in switzerland i know, are supporting their families down there. Mostly for food and education. But instead of paying for a good private school for the kidds, they spend money for booze, party, and they always need more. 🤔

My fiance's second oldest brother is like that. He has a job driving trucks for the mines in Mindanao, but all of his money went to alcohol and tobacco and junk food. He found a girl he wanted to wife up from Dinagat and she moved in with him, but he was living with his brothers and sisters in their parents home along with a cousin and her daughter and a nephew. Like 14 people living in one small house. He got kicked out and had to live in a falling down shack next door until he could save enough money for a Nipa hut. Suddenly he had quit the booze and cut back on the tobacco and started bringing his lunch to work... Her oldest brother moved to Surigao when he married a single mother (former bar girl with 3 kids from 3 fathers) that his parents didn't approve of. He gave up all his vices and works construction now and has 1 kid of his own with her. I wouldn't say he is doing well, but he has more than his parents did at that point in his life. Her sister kept using the money given to her to buy flashy (for them) cloths and tried to be the most popular etc. When she got cut off she ran for a local political office and won and now gets a modest salary to fund her fashion budget lol.

Several years ago I agreed to buy my Vietnamese girlfriend a new motorcycle. She bought the absolute most deluxe version, and I said nothing. So she decided to go for broke and requested: 1) I buy a clothing shop for her and her sister; 2) I set her son up in the best private school; 3) I get her and her mother a new house. I disappeared and she hasn't found me yet. (Moral of the story: it ain't just Filipinas.)

My neighbor married a Philippina in 1990. She’s oldest. Her family rich. Her Dad was a Judge. They own ranch on N____S Occidental.. He doesn’t mind helping. He’s but houses. Bought concrete and roofing. I’ve helped build modular water filtration that fit in them food boxes we send over. And I’m not married to one. Just helping my neighbor.
